Which Shiny Pokemon Can I Catch

All Shiny Pokémon in the Pokémon Anime!

At the moment, the only confirmed Shiny Pokemon are Magikarp and Gyarados. Its unclear if the Shiny Gyarados can be caught in the wild, but it has been confirmed that a Shiny Magikarp will automatically evolve into a Shiny Gyarados. Some trainers have caught Shiny Magikarps that have turned out to be Dittos, but according to reports, those Dittos dont retain the shininess.

How To Catch Shiny Pokmon In Sword And Shield: Shiny Pokmon Vs Super Shiny Pokmon

Several players have reported that they’ve found a brand new variant of shiny Pokémon. To be more precise, two different types of shiny Pokémon appear in Sword and Shield. One of them is much rarer than the other and has been dubbed “super shiny” by the internet. Regular shiny Pokémon pop out with stars glittering around them, whereas super shiny Pokémon appear with squares, as seen in the picture above.

Shiny Pokémon rarity has been split! Same 1:4096 odds to obtain a shiny, but there are two types of shiny. 15/16 show stars, 1/16 show squares. Square rarity is 1 in 65536!Basically, if your Trainer ID cleanly matches the PID , it will be squares rather than stars.

Kurt

This has led data miners to jump into Sword and Shield’s coding to determine if the shiny odds have been affected. According to respected data miner Kurt, the odds of catching shinies are still 1/4096. However, 15/16 shiny Pokémon will show stars, whereas only 1/16 shiny Pokémon will show squares. That makes super shinies super rare to come across with only a chance of 1/65536!

If you happen to catch one of these ultra-rare Pokémon, let us know! We’d love to hear about it.

Two Different Shiny Effects

As if Shiny Pokémon were not already rare enough, there are now two variations of Shinies: square and star animation. Currently, there does not appear to be any way to increase the odds of finding one of these Pokémon. Instead, once a Shiny Pokémon is found, the game will roll to determine if it will get a regular star effect or a square one, which usually appears around hatched Shinies. The regular Shiny has a 15 out of 16 chance of appearing, while the square takes up the remaining 1 out of 16.

It is also important to note that the following Pokémon are not available in Shiny form, and so players should not waste their time resetting the game in hopes of triggering a different outcome:

  • The Starter Pokémon
  • The Legendary Pokémon, including Zacian, Zamazenta, and Eternatus
  • Any NPC Trades
  • “Strong” Pokémon in the Wild Area you can’t catch, which is implemented to avoid players from finding something that they are not able to catch early in the game.

Starter Pokémon may still be bred with a foreign Ditto or Starter to produce a Shiny offspring, though, if one wishes to put the effort in. In any case, patience is key when it comes to capturing a Shiny. Even with all the odds stacked in your favor, it can take a significant number of attempts before finally finding the Shiny Pokémon you’re looking for.

How To Catch Shiny Pokemon Easily

The more of the same type of Pokemon you’ve caught or battled, the more likely you will encounter a Shiny version of them in the wild. Also, the more you encounter a certain Pokemon, the more likely they’ll appear in the Wild Area, too! So, if you have your eye on a certain Shiny Pokemon, run into them as often as possible. Your “chain” in Sword and Shield is permanent, which you can check by looking at your Pokedex.

Additionally, you’ll want to unlock the Shiny Charm if you want to get serious about Shiny hunting. The Shiny Charm will further increase your odds when catching a Shiny, when either catching, fishing, or breeding. See How to Unlock the Shiny Charm.

Check this chart to see the rates you’ll encounter a Pokemon based on how many you’ve battled, and if you have the Shiny Charm.

How To Get Square Shiny Pokemon

Pokemon Sun & Moon: Final Starter Evolutions Official ...

Pokemon Sword and Shield introduces a “square” sparkle animation in addition to the usual “star” sparkle. After encountering a Shiny Pokemon, there’s an additional “roll” to get either of these animations.

If you breed Pokemon, or catch a Pokemon with a static encounter there’s a 1/16th chance to get a Shiny Pokemon with the Square animation. If you catch a wild Pokemon, there’s a 15/16th chance to get a Shiny Pokemon with the Square animation.

Cheating For Shiny Pokmon

I feel its very important to talk about this, because its all too common for people to want a Shiny Pokémon so badly that they will skip directly to the end result by cheating to obtain the Shiny Pokémon. Yes, that is a thing, there are ways to do so, but I do not recommend doing this!

Although it may sound fun having an entire team of maxed out Shiny Pokémon, or perhaps an entire collection of Shiny Pokémon in your PC to use as you see fit, what do you actually gain from that? What satisfaction would you feel from it? You might think its cool for a little bit, but since you didnt earn it, it will have no meaning. Youll know those Shiny Pokémon werent legitimately obtained.

Think of it like cheating on a test if you just get the answers from a classmate, youre not doing the work yourself, and even though you may pass, you wont be any smarter for it.

Part of what makes Shiny Hunting fun is the rewarding feeling of running into a legitimate Shiny Pokémon! You set a goal for yourself, you put in time to achieve that goal, and eventually, through your own persistence, you accomplish that goal. Youll actually feel accomplishment from it.

List Of Cards Featuring Shiny Pokmon

Main article: List of alternately colored Pokémon in the anime

Although the games had not premiered alternate colored Pokémon until Generation II, several Pokémon seen beforehand were colored differently. One such example is the pink Butterfree, the mate of Ash’s Butterfree, which appeared as early as the twenty-first episode. This is, however, not the standard alternate coloration for a Butterfree, and therefore may not be counted as a Shiny Pokémon. Likewise, the first appearance of a Generation III Pokémon in The Kecleon Caper featured a non-standard alternately colored Pokémon, this time a purple Kecleon. Another example would be in Fighting Back the Tears!, where a non-standard alternately colored appears, and later evolves into a Toxapex.

In the Orange Archipelago, certain Pokémon have a different coloration because the climate is different than that of the mainland. For example, a Butterfree, instead of the normal white with black markings, would have gold wings with red spots on them. On Pinkan Island of the Orange Archipelago, all of the Pokémon are colored pink because the Pinkan Berries they eat make them that way.

How Shiny Pokémon have been marked throughout the generations

Gen II HOMEMobile

Shiny Pokémon were introduced in the Generation II games. When a Shiny Pokémon appears in the wild or from its Poké Ball, it is surrounded by a flash of stars or light, which is accompanied by a pinging sound effect.

Individual Pokémon cannot change their Shininess. A Shiny Pokémon will always be Shiny, and a regular Pokémon will never become Shiny. Upon evolution, a Pokémon retains its Shiny status for example, a Shiny Charmander, if leveled up, will eventually become a Shiny Charmeleon and then a Shiny Charizard, while a regular Charmander will become a regular Charmeleon and then a regular Charizard.

An icon appears on the status screen of Shiny Pokémon in most games. In Generation II, this icon appears in the top-right corner of the screen, by the gender symbol, while in most other games, it appears in or near one of the corners of the Pokémon’s image however, Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald do not have any icon. In Generation III, the Pokémon’s Pokédex number will be colored gold instead of white and the background of the Pokémon’s image has a lighter shade likewise, in Generation IV and V, the color of some elements of the status screen differ for Shiny Pokémon.

The table below summarizes the rates at which Shiny Pokémon can be found by the methods that will be detailed below. The Shiny Charm can directly add to the odds for most methods, with hidden Pokémon being affected uniquely.

Do Shiny Pokmon Show Up In The Pokdex In Pokmon Go

5 Shiny Details You Might Have Missed | Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

They do. Although they are not separate entries, you can access the Shiny variants on the main entries just like gender vaniants. To see the Shiny variants, follow these easy step:

  • Tap the Menu button , button right.
  • Tap Pokédex, top middle.
  • Tap on the Pokémon you want to check.
  • Look for the Shiny badge.
  • Of course, the Shiny badge will only show up once you’ve caught a Shiny version of that Pokémon. Alternatively, if the Shiny Variant is the only one you’ve caught, you won’t be able to see the standard forme in your Pokédex.

How Do I Find A Shiny Pokemon

Thats the million dollar question. At the moment, there doesnt appear to be any rhyme or reason to the appearance of Shiny Pokemon . You just have to get lucky. It is worth noting that Shiny Pokemon do not appear Shiny on the map. You can only tell if a Pokemon is a Shiny Pokemon by tapping on it and beginning an encounter. Furthermore, just because a Pokemon is a Shiny Pokemon in your game doesnt mean it will be for anyone else. So you might tap on the same Shiny Magikarp that your friend tapped on, but theres no guarantee itll still be shiny in your game.

The Secret Reason Why Some Shiny Pokmon Look Bad

Shiny Pokémon are coveted collector items both in Pokemon GO and in the core game series, however it cant be denied that shiny sprites of some Pokémon look rather bad. From mismatched color schemes, to simply unpleasing color palettes, weve always wondered why some older shiny Pokémon look the way they do.

Luckily, an excellent video by KangasKid18 goes into details about the mechanics and algorithms behind shiny Pokémon colors, explaining why some shiny sprites in Pokemon Go look worse than others and why Niantic cant really do anything about it:

Q: Does A Shiny Eevee Evolve Into A Shiny

You may think this is a simple question seeing as shiny Pokémon retain their shiny status when evolving. However, Eevee is a peculiar case. Eevee is a Pokémon with the most potential evolutions in Pokémon history. Eevee can evolve into eight different Pokémon. Understandably, trainers would question if a shiny Eevee would retain its shiny coloring regardless of which of the eight evolutions the trainer decides on. The simple answer is yes. A shiny Eevee will always produce a shiny evolution regardless of which evolution the trainer chooses.

    Two Types Of Shiny Pokmon

As we mentioned earlier, Pokémon Sword & Shield introduced two new types of Shiny Pokémon. Simply put, players are able to encounter either a Shiny Pokémon with a square sparkle or star sparkle effect. The square sparkle appears around Pokémon that can be encountered in the wild, while the star sparkle appears around those that can be encountered in any other way . However, it’s possible for the sparkle effects to be reversed, meaning that there is the possibility of encountering a Shiny Pokémon with a star sparkle effect while in the wild.

No other Pokémon games have ever included anything like this before. Although older Pokémon games had their own take on Shiny Pokémon, such as golden names appearing in the Pokédex or a star showing up next to their names, the effects were all the same – different colored aesthetic and a sparkle. In Pokémon Sword & Shield, though, the effects are split into two, thus doubling the amount of Shiny Pokémon one can catch in the games.

Even if players who aren’t Shiny Hunters manage to come across a Shiny Pokémon, it would be in their interest to catch it since, truth be told, an opportunity like that is extremely rare.

First, you have to find as many Pokémon as you can. That means finding spawns or nests where those types of Pokémon are common. Then tap, tap, tap away and see if you encounter a Shiny.

For eggs and babies, collect as many as you can. Walk as much as you can. And hatch, hatch, hatch.

For the Raid Pokémon, the story is the same. Find the Raids. Beat the Raid Boss. Hope the one you get is Shiny.

Field Research. Find the tasks that give you a Pokémon with a Shiny form, then work with your community to find the PokéStops giving away the right tasks, and then complete as many as you can.

Shiny Field Research Pokémon have a 0% flee rate, but for everything else, remember your basics:

  • ABC. Always be curving. Once you can nail Curve Ball every time, you’ll get a 1.7x bonus every time.
  • Max out your medals. Some are easier to get than others but they consume no resources like Great or Ultra Balls or Razz Berries, so once you get them, that 1.1x to 1.3x is automatically applied each time.
  • Consistency counts. Aim for the smallest target you can nail every time. If that’s Nice, it’s nice. If that’s Great or Excellent, even nicer. But better the bonus you get then one you miss, and that extra 1.3 to 2x also doesn’t consume resources and can make a difference.
  • Razz for real. Use Razz Berries when you need to. Unlike Great or Ultra Balls, you can’t miss with a Razz Berry and its 1.5x bonus will last untilyou hit. For the new Golden Razz Berries, it’s 2.5x!

How Shiny Pokmon Colors Are Designed

Gold and Silver were the first games with shiny Pokémon. Due to technical and memory limitations in Gold and Silver, a Pokémon was colored with nothing more than a color palette consisting of 1-2 colors on top of black and white.

In the early days, Gamefreak would simply switch the color palette of a Pokémon to a next suitable one in the games code, resulting in similar shiny variants for different Pokémon .

Similar color palettes on shiny Clefable and Wigglytuff

Later games removed all the color restrictions Gold and Silver had and Pokémon could have dozens of colors, but Gamefreak stuck with the change the color palette method for five generations.

When the games entered the 3D era, Gamefreak had complete freedom to create shiny Pokémon, but they decided to stick to the same principle as before: shiny forms change all of the colors of a Pokémon, rather than just distinct featured colors.

In Sun and Moon, this changed and Gamefreak started deliberately designing shiny Pokémon, which resulted in shiny Pokémon that look and feel completely different than shinies in earlier games.
