Pokemon Go: Every Types Weakness

Top 10 WEAKEST Fighting Type Pokemon

Pokemon GO shares the rock-paper-scissors nature of the mainline series when it comes to combat, but it can be tricky to remember all of the elemental type advantages with so many types in play at once.

Niantic has fortunately provided a helpful article on its official Pokemon GO site to remind its players what weaknesses and resistances are out there. Since the games inclusion of Fairy-type Pokemon and moves, Pokemon GO is now up-to-date with its type effectiveness alongside the current titles in the franchise such as Pokemon Sword & Shield.

Super-effective damage is vital to trainers combat capabilities, as taking advantage of type weaknesses is a core concept in Pokemon GO.

Ground Type Is Surprisingly Effective On Poison Type

Quite possibly the most random choice when it comes to Pokémon type advantages is how ground types are super effective against poison types. Pokémon like Rhyperior or Quagsire can do major damage to Pokémon like Muk or Drapion, but it seems theres no reason in particular for how that even works.

Ground and poison dont exactly have much to do with each other, and the closest it gets is pollutions relation to land, but that only makes the argument that poison would be strong against ground type. Otherwise, it just doesnt make a whole lot of sense and seems like it was made this way just to give poison another weakness alongside psychic.

Every Pokmon Type Weakness For Battle Strategy

Below is a list of every Pokémon type, what it is weak against, and the potential logic behind each weakness. Most of the weaknesses in the Pokémon games are based on theoretical interactions between each element in real life. However, there are some types added in later games which are less concrete, like the Fairy-type or Dark-type, so how they work in gameplay can be less straightforward. Despite this, the majority of types are fairly easy to remember after some practice.

No Concept Of Immunities/no Effect

Every attack in Pokémon GO damages an opposing monster in the mainline games, a small number of type matchups actually result in no damage i.e. immunity, usually with the message X has no effect. These matchups are:

  • Normal and Fighting immune to Ghost
  • Flying immune to Ground
  • Ghost immune to Normal and Fighting
  • Fairy immune to Dragon

These special cases still exist in Pokémon GO, however, they do around a third normal damagerather than doing no damage at all. In our type chart, these type immunities are bolded and placed in square brackets. REMEMBER – in the mainline games like Pokémon Sword and Shield, these attacks will have no effect whatsoever!

Pokmon Go Type Chart: How To Remember Pokmon Types

For anyone who has invested years of play into this series, the type system becomes second nature. While in time your memory too will retain most of, if not the full set of relationships it is worth learning the logical relationships that do exist.

The classic example taught at the beginning of every Pokémon game is that fire is super effective against grass, which is in turn super effective against water, which is in turn super effective against fire. This is easy enough to follow fire burns grass, grass thrives with water, water puts out fire but finding similar relationships in the other 18 types is will help you remember the system.

Here are some other ideas to get you started:

  • Rocks effectiveness against flying is reminiscent of the phrase kill two birds with one stone
  • Similarly, psychic is effective against fighting because brains are better than brawn but psychic is vulnerable to dark and ghost because the mind cannot cope with the unknown and supernatural
  • Ground types are immune to electric attacks because being grounded is an important principle in electric circuits but ground can be swept away be water, cracked by ice and exploited by grass.

Pokmon Go Type Chart Type Effectiveness And Weakness Explained

Type Chart methods of representing Type effectiveness have been popular since long before Pokémon Go, with all of the core Pokémon games revolving around them.

In brief, Pokémon types dictate whether one Pokémon is either strong or weak – super effective or not very effective – against another, dealing additional or reduced damage as a result – and receiving additional or reduced damamage – as a result.

The standard Type chart that has evolved through the different generations will be like a second language to long-term Pokémon fans, but to newcomers it can appear too daunting to even know where to begin, so with that in mind we’ve put together a type chart of our own, as well as an explanation of how Type effectivness works and how to plan around it, just below.

Pokemon Fighting Type Weaknesses & Counters

Fighting type Pokemon have three main weaknesses: Fairy, Flying, and Psychic. Youll want to use one of these if youre trying to deal with a martial foe.

That means youll want to use strong Pokemon of those type.

  • Fairy: If you have them, use Togekiss, Gardevoir, Granbull, Clefable, or Mr. Mime. A number of these Pokemon double up on the weakness via a combination of the two types. Mr. Mime is both Psychic and Fairy, for example, giving you even more potential super effective moves.
  • Flying: You may not have them, but the most powerful Flying type Pokemon are Ho-Oh, Rayquaza, Dragonite, Salamence, and Lugia. If you want to double up, one of the Fairy types will do just fine like Togekiss or the aforementioned Lugia who is Flying and Psychic.
  • Psychic: Mewtwo is obviously king here, but barring that, go for Deoxys, Alakazam, Espeon, or Latios. Crucially, you should avoid Metagross despite how strong it is. The Steel type will leave it vulnerable to Fighting attacks.

What Pokemon Have A Good Defense Against Attacks From Ghost Pokemon

FLYING strengths and weaknesses

When it comes to physical attacks, most Pokemon have a higher physical stat than ghost type pokemon, so their attacks arent very effective against most other types because their defence stat is high generally.

Generally, these Pokemon have a good defence against attacks from ghost type pokemon.

Normal Type Pokemon

The normal type is one type that is resistant to ghost pokemon. This is because they mainly inflict their damage physically and are also generally immune to physical attacks.

Ghost type pokemon are good when it comes to defence because they can trap most of their opponents, but when it comes to attacking, a ghost type probably wont be your best option to go with.

Since ghost type attacks arent too effective against the normal type, this is one of the best types of Pokemon to use against a ghost type.

Ghost Type Pokemon

Ghost type pokemon are weak against themselves. Their biggest weakness is their own type.

Since their attacks arent excellent to use against other Pokemon, they dont affect other ghost type pokemon.

And most importantly, all ghost type moves are defensive, so they have a strong defence against their own attacks.

Also, almost every ghost type can learn Will o Wisp. This move cripples physical users, and it does damage over time as well.

Since the Ghost type is hard to kill physically, it is a good bet to use against themselves.

Dark Type Pokemon

Dark-type Pokemon is another type that is amazing to use against ghost type pokemon.

What Pokemon Have A Good Defense Against Attacks From Poison Pokemon

Pokemon Emerald Randomizer Nuzlocke – Episode 1: “The Fighting Weakness”

Poison Type Pokemon

Poison types are resistant to attacks against themselves. They are immune to being poisoned and take lesser damage from different poison type moves.

This makes them an excellent choice to use against themselves, depending upon the Pokemon.

However, you cant go into a battle blindly and need to know exactly who youre up against and whats that Pokemons weakness.

Ground Type Pokemon

Another type that resists poison type pokemon is the ground type. The ground type has a decent defense against physical type attacks, which is why its so good to use against the poison type.

However, this resistance is limited only to the poison types that cant fly. If the opponent pokemon can fly, the ground type is no longer as resistant to them as they will probably be immune to all the ground type attacks.

But still, their defensive stat is relatively high, and you wont have as much of a hard time against a poison type.

Ghost Type Pokemon

Ghost type pokemon also are resistant to poison type attacks. Therefore, you can always take advantage of a ghosts resistance to the physical damage inflicted by a poison type.

The ghost type is a safer option against dual type pokemon as that many types do not counter it.

As Ghost-type Pokemon are immune to Fighting-type moves, their immunity to Fighting can be nullified through Foresight or Odor Sleuth.

Fighting-type moves are usually Cool or Tough. None of their moves are Cute. Some of the most popular Fighting-type trainers include Chuck, the Cianwood Gym Leader, and Brawly, the Dewford Gym Leader.
