New Pokemon Snap Announced For Nintendo Switch

The sequel you always wanted but never expected

Pokemon Snap is coming to Nintendo Switch through a new game appropriately titled New Pokemon Snap, developed by Pokken Tournament creator Bandai Namco.

New Pokemon Snap was announced during Nintendo and The Pokemon Company’s big June 17 Pokemon Presents show. It’s still very much a work in progress, so the footage shown was not final, but it’s clear that the sequel follows the same basic structure as the original. You tour different islands in a hovercraft of sorts while snapping photos of Pokemon.

Thats right, Trainers#PokemonSnapIsBack! #NewPokemonSnap is an all-new adventure inspired by the classic Nintendo 64 game. Grab your camera, and get ready to photograph Pokémon while exploring beautiful islands on Nintendo Switch! https://t.co/7lqjl7saf0 pic.twitter.com/p6oJgmwZ8d

A few returning features were also shown in the announcement trailer, like the ability to entreat Pokemon with special apples in order to bring them closer. In the original game, you could use these apples and other throwables to trigger changes in Pokemon and the environment, so here’s hoping that adaptability is back too.

It’s clear that New Pokemon Snap will feature many generations of Pokemon, with first-gens like Pikachu and current-gens like Scorbunny appearing in the trailer. There are a few Pokemon from just about every generation, in fact, but it’s unclear how many Pokemon in total will be included.

For many, Pokémon Snap holds a special place in their heart, with the Nintendo 64 game offering Pokémon fans their first proper look at these pocket monsters in a 3D environment. As they have been doing since its launch, the Nintendo Switch Onlines Expansion Pack service is seeing one new additional game added per month with Junes being the aforementioned Pokémon Snap.

Making the announcement, Nintendo said Catching Pokémon is a snap! Travel to Pokémon Island and meet Professor Oak to begin a safari to take the best possible photographs of over 60 different Pokémon. The Pokémon Snap game, originally released for the Nintendo 64 system, will be available on 6/24 for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members.

Pokémon Snap may not be the longest game out there, with an average playtime clocking in at just 6 hours for a completionist run, but it is one of the more beloved Nintendo 64 games especially if you grew up as a Pokémon fan during the era of Snaps release.

Though it is undoubtedly frustrating to see only one N64 game added per month to the service, NSOs games are permanent additions, meaning that hopefully given enough time the majority of the systems library will be brought over to the Switch. Our coverage of Mays NSO game of the month can be found HERE.

Pokmon Lets Go Pikachu/eevee Abri La Veda

Pokmon Espada Y Escudo Fueron En Su Momento Los Juegos Ms Esperados De Nintendo Switch

Aplicaciones: Pokmon Home Y Tv Pokmon

Why You Might Want To Get Nintendo Switch Online Anyways

After putting all that work into taking and editing the perfect shot, you might want to show it off. This is where having a Nintendo Switch Online membership will come in handy. The internet has come a long way since 1999, and New Pokémon Snap players will be able to use the subscription service to create a personal album and share images of their work online for other players to view and rank.

It’s unclear if having highly ranked photos will award you with anything besides bragging rights or if a Nintendo Switch Online subscription will provide you access to any other New Pokémon Snap features. Pokémon HOME, Pokémon Sword and Shield, and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! and Pikachu! don’t support the service’s cloud saves, so it’s likely New Pokémon Snap won’t either. Check back here for updates when the game releases!

The Original ‘pokmon Snap’ Comes To Switch Online On June 24th

New Pokémon Snap Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite [Digital] 110737 ...

Are you more interested in playing the original Pokémon Snap than the modern version? You won’t have to pull your Nintendo 64 out of the closet to do it. Nintendo is releasing the N64 game on June 24th for gamers subscribed to Switch Online with the Expansion Pack. It’s still the on-rails creature photo safari you remember, complete with tossing fruit to either attract or stun Pokémon in the name of a perfect snapshot.

There’s no mention of any Switch-specific enhancements. The Virtual Console version for the Wii let you post critter pictures on a message board, but that’s not strictly necessary when the Switch lets you capture screenshots to post on Facebook or Twitter.

Pokémon Snap probably won’t persuade you to get the Expansion Pack by itself. Along with classics like Paper Mario and Kirby 64, though, the pattern is clear. Nintendo is still busy fleshing out Switch Online’s extended library with some of the better-known games from the N64 era, and it doesn’t mind adding titles that have present-day counterparts.

Pokémon Snap was first released on the Nintendo 64, and it’s been 22 years since there’s been a new version of the photography simulator. New Pokémon Snap releases on April 30, adding to the collection of Pokémon games on Nintendo Switch. Better yet, you won’t need a Nintendo Switch Online membership.

All you’ll need is a Nintendo Switch and a copy of the game to enjoy the story and the vast majority of the features in New Pokémon Snap. You’ll be tasked with helping Professor Mirror research the Lendal region by taking pictures of Pokémon in their natural habitats. Beyond just spotting Pokémon, you’ll want to try to catch them exhibiting various behaviors and make sure they’re centered in the frame. You can even edit the images and add filters. Your photos will earn one to four stars based on how hard it is to capture a shot.

New Pokmon Snap Review

It’s been 22 years since the original Pokémon Snap and with each passing console generation fans had never given up hope for a possible sequel. Why is that? It wasn’t a long game, it didn’t have that many levels, only had a small pool of Pokémon and the base gameplay was simply about taking pictures. On paper, Pokémon Snap sounds basic and it seems there’s an entire generation who don’t get the appeal. To put it simply, Snap presents Pokémon in their purest form it lets Pokémon be Pokémon without any strings of battling attached something no other entry even attempts.

That’s what made the original game so special, we had never seen Pokémon divorced from humans in such a natural way, there were so many iconic moments that were exhilarating to catch with the perfect frame on camera. We learned each level inside and out, mastering where every creature would spawn and when they would strike a special pose. There was simply no other game quite like it and it’s gone down in history as possibly the greatest Pokémon spinoff, if we discount Pokémon Puzzle League.

And now we’ve played through New Pokémon Snap and it still feels like we’re living a dream. But no, 22 years have passed and we finally have its sequel. With such a weight on its shoulders can it possibly live up to such a legacy? Remarkably, yeah, it can.
