Released between March 2007 and September 2007, POP Series 5 was the last EX Series promotional set and featured Espeon and Umbreon, two of the eight Pokemon that evolve from Eevee.

The POP Series 5 checklist contained seventeen cards in total with Epseon and Umbreon being the most elusive of them all, noted by the gold star distinction next to their name on the card fronts.

Nintendo Pokemon Game 1st Edition Venusaur

    Estimated Average Market Value $7,322
    Estimated Copies Worldwide 1670

Im sure no one is surprised to see at least one Venusaur card on this list with a high price tag attached to it.

Its value can be attributed to the enduring popularity of the original Pokemon trading card set that helped kick-start the collecting craze in the United States.

Of the Pokemon featured in the set, Venusaur should continue to be a hot commodity thanks to the powerful nostalgia it holds as one of the final evolutions of the three starter Pokemon from the original video games.

Update!: This card has now sold for $60,000!

We have already seen Blastoise on this list and so it shouldnt be too long again until we see

Pokemon Japanese Summer Battle Road Mew Victory Orb Trainer Card

Previous Victory Orb cards from the Battle Road Summer tournaments in 2003 and 2004 did not feature Mew so many hobbyists believe this one to be an aesthetic upgrade.

The Japanese text below the artwork translates to:

“Victory Orb can only be used by official tournament winners. Look at the top 7 cards of your deck, then return them to the top of your deck in any order.”

    Pokemon Japanese Topsun Holofoil Charizard

10 Rare Pokemon Cards on Snupps. The Pokemon trading game ...

The Charizard is the most desirable Topsun prism holofoil card.

You’ll notice it features the same imagery used for the cover art of the Pokemon Red videogame released on the Nintendo Game Boy in Japan in 1996.

As mentioned earlier regarding the Topsun prism holofoil Blastoise, these cards feature a 1995 trademark date.

Still, most believe Top-Seika didn’t distribute them until 1997, after the official Pokemon Trading Card Game launched in 1996.

Writing a definitive list of the rarest catches in Pokémon GO is tough. With Niantic upping its game and running more special events where you can catch scarce creatures, any rundown of the rarest Pokémon can change overnight.

Also, if youre a hardcore collector who never leaves the house without Pokémon GO in hand, Pokémon that are rare to occasional players may be old news to veterans like you. And as there are no official stats on the rarity of Pokémon, naming the scarcest catches can only be based on personal experience and feedback from the Pokémon GO community.

With this in mind, our list of the rarest Pokémon in August 2021 will:

    • help casual players know what elusive creatures are out there
    • give experts a checklist of collectable creatures they need to find in trades

    Japanese Promo Holo Illustrator Pikachu

    Estimated Average Market Value $375,000
    Estimated Copies Worldwide 37

Some of you may already know, but I have a personal connection with this card as I was part of the team that brokered the selling of this card multiple times.

In Mid 2020, we broke a world record by selling one of these Pikachu Illustrator cards for $233,000 which at the time solidified the Pikachu Illustrator card as the worlds most expensive Pokemon card.

Shortly afterward, Pokemon cards saw a huge spike in popularity and we began to see the price of cards skyrocket. Our world record was short-lived as new sale records were being set on almost a monthly basis as Pokemon continued to ride its resurging wave of popularity.

In November 2020, we helped sell our 3rd Pikachu illustrator card for another, short-lived, world record-breaking $360,000 .

Did You know?: Its rumored that there may only be 10 of these cards still surviving from the printedoriginal print run.

My only regret is due to the security we hired to keep these cards safe during transportation, not even I was allowed close enough to have my photo taken with any of the cards, but you know what they say 4th times the charm!

Expect this Pikachu card to keep shocking us with just how much it raises in value in the future, but I would maybe hold off on paying the $3,000,000 asking price of this live listing.

Pokmon Neo Genesis 1st Edition Holographic Lugia

Top 10 Rarest Pokemon of All Time!

    $144,300

This is a near-perfect example of a super popular Pokémon card, a first-edition Lugia.

Lugia is considered to be a legendary Pokémon from Gen II often spotted on the cover of Pokémon: Silver.

Due to this apparent ubiquity, Pokémon fans were reportedly desperate to obtain this card which value is expected to increase.

Pokemon Ex Deoxys Gold Star Holo Latias

Sold in December, 2020 for $20,100

The eighth expansion of the EX Series, the EX Deoxys checklist contained 108 cards in total, with cards #105 , #106 , and #107 receiving the desirable gold star distinction.

Designed by Masakuza Fukuda, the artwork on the Latias card features eye-catching imagery of the dual-type Dragon/Psychic creature that belongs to a group of incredibly rare Pokemon known as Legendary Pokemon.

Backless Pokmon Blastoise: Galaxy Star Hologram

    $360,000

    Toy Tales

This Blastoise Pokémon is considered particularly valuable due to the lack of any printing on the side opposite to the art, leading to the name “Backless Blastoise.”

The card is all the rarer as it was never intended to be publicly available, as it was part of a test run made by Wizards of the Coast.

Pokmon Jungle 1st Edition Holo Snorlax #11

The 1999 Complete 1st Edition only covered about a third of the original Pokédex, with a number of heavy-hitters left out.

One such Pokémon was Snorlax, who played a large role in the first Game Boy games.

64 cards were released in the series, which added a number of interesting holo shinies to the original collection.

These cards featured different illustrators who brought their own ideas to the fore when designing the images.

Snorlax is found in the jungle expansion, as the eleventh card in the 99 release.

Only 71 copies have earned gem mint status so far, and the lazy Pokémon features on a difficult card to seek out.

    Pokmon Southern Islands Card Collection

Top 10 Worldâs Most Expensive Pokémon Cards 2018

This is a really interesting collection of Pokémon cards, to say the least. The folder came with 18 cards which are known as the Rainbow and Tropical Island sets. Released in Japan, it was done more as a film advertising project than a targeted card set. The cards themselves fit together to make a picture and an assembled set can command several hundred dollars when sold.

What’s it worth? A factory-sealed example of the Pokémon Southern Island Collection sold for more than $2000 on eBay as recently as October 2020.

    Pokmon Number 1 Trainer Card

This card predates the ever-changing, annual Pokémon World Championship cards. Before that point, the Trainer cards awarded would only change artwork a few times over the years and this card is the fourth significant change we see. Featuring artwork by Ken Sugimori, it was initially awarded during the Japanese World Challenge Summer event held in 2000. The winners here were awarded this card which allowed entry for the finals held that following August.

Pokmon Topsun 1995 First Edition Charizard

The Pokémon Topsun cards are slightly different from all the cards mentioned above. Back in 1997, you were able to purchase a pack with gum that included two cards featuring Pokémon. These cards are the first-ever Pokémon cards printed.

The reason Charizard is the most valuable is due to its cracked ice pattern holo background and its rarity. PSA has seen 79 of the cards and graded only 16 as being PSA 10 condition. According to PSAcard.com, the cards are known to go for up to $10,000.

A member of the exclusive and powerful Legendary Pokémon group, the psychic-type Mewtwo is considered one of the top Pokémon of all time.

The vicious and savage Mewtwo originated when a scientist altered its original DNA via gene-splicing techniques.

Its signature move, Psystrike, can deal out massive punishment to opposing Pokemon and has long been a favorite of many Pokemon fans.

Do not be fooled by Ken Sugimori’s tame depiction of Mewtwo on this card, as this creature packs devastating ferocity and power.

WHAT ARE THE RAREST POKEMON IN POKEMON GO? Hardest Pokemon to Get in 2019

Like every other kid growing up in the late 90s, I was an avid collector of Pokémon cards. Trading, battling, and trash-talking, it was all in a school days work! Of course, along the way I picked up a few gems here and there, which I put in protective sleeves and a three-ring binder. It fit right in with my math folders and history binder.

Today, that binder is empty and the sleeved pages only pop up in the bottom of a draw or in the back of a cluttered closet. Does this sound familiar? If it does, I suggest you start digging around yourself, because in case you didnt know, some of those cards may be worth more than a pretty penny now!

In this post, Ill be briefly highlighting and reviewing some of the top 10 rarest Pokémon cards in existence. Each of the cards listed may vary in price/value depending on where theyre being sold and the condition they are in. Youll hear me say this a countless number of times throughout this post, but just be aware that if you do possess one of these cards you may have to dig a little deeper to get the most accurate estimate of their true worth!

    Lets begin!

Neo Destiny Shining Charizard 1st Edition

    Estimated Average Market Value $6,770
    Estimated Copies Worldwide 660

Of the cards released to the general public, the Shining Charizard remains one of the most valuable.

This is because it was one of the first shiny Pokemon cards in history! Combine that with the fact that it was part of the Neo Destiny set, its print run was lower than average.

We are starting to see this card regularly sell for around $15,000 and reportedly a Gem Mint version of this card has now been sold for just over $25,000. Its arguably a bit premature in this cards life cycle to be selling at such a high price tag, but it does tell us that we can expect this card to continue to rise in value.

You can keep track of this cards rapid increase in value by seeing live listings of Neo Destiny Shining Charizard.

Seen as one of the most beautiful illustrations that feature the ever-popular Charizard with foiling that changes colors with the light , this card is on the hit list for all Charizard fans.

Charizard 1999 Pokmon Base Set 1st Edition 4/102 Psa 9

    https://www.psacard.com/

The most expensive Pokémon card on our list is no surprise. There is no more iconic card in the Pokémon TCG than the Charizard Base Set 1st Edition 4/102, and in the last 12 months, this card has made plenty of headlines from Logic purchasing a PSA 10 version of the card for $220,000 in October of 2020, to Logan Paul wearing the same card around his neck graded a BGS 10 to his exhibition against Floyd Mayweather in June 2021. This Charizard card is the most sought-after Pokémon card that exists. What makes it so special is that it was part of the first print run of the English edition of the beloved trading card game, making it an extremely rare Pokémon card. The card features a 1st Edition stamp below the card artwork, and it is shadowless, meaning that there is no drop shadow to the right of the art panel. A Charizard Base Set 1st Edition PSA 9 sold for $26,000 in late 2020 making it the most expensive Pokémon card to ever sell on StockX.

While all of these Pokémon cards carry substantial value, they still do not come close to the record for the most expensive Pokémon cards ever. Logan Paul claims his Charizard Base Set 1st Edition BGS 10 is a million-dollar card, but that price has yet to be seen. Below are the top three most expensive and rarest Pokémon cards to have ever sold publicly.

    Holo Gold Star Rayquaza: $4500

Rather than many cards on this list, this Shiny Rayquaza from the EX Deoxys set is a rare Pokemon card thats mostly just mythical pull from a standard set. During this expansion, Pokemon with a Gold Star in your deck, making them just as powerful as they are gorgeous with unique colors and art exiting the frame.

Costs can vary massively, but spaces like Troll and Toad price the card at just under $4500. Pokemon Japanese Bandai Carddass Vending Prism Red Charizard

Sold in January, 2021 for $30,100

Founded in 1950, Bandai is a Japanese toy maker that produced a series of Pokemon cards in September 1996 that pre-dated the official launch of the Pokemon Trading Card Game that followed in October 1996.

To distribute the cards, Bandai utilized a network of vending machines, or carddass, as they called them.

There are hundreds of Bandai carddass Pokemon cards to collect, but the most desirable of them all is the prism Charizard.

In one of the earliest appearances of the iconic character, Charizard roars and breathes fire, creating an image that really pops.

    Mew Victory Orb Trophy

The Victory Orb trophy card was handed out to the top 3 players of each age group during the Japanese Battle Road Summer 2003 and 2004 tournaments. Although the card was reprinted with different artwork for subsequent events, the original unnumbered promo card is incredibly rare and highly sought after.

It’s for this reason that one collector was willing to part with $60,000 to get their hands on one in late 2020. Only 14 copies of the card have been graded by the PSA, 12 of which were given then highest possible rating. There are certainly rarer cards out there, but not too many of them sell for quite this much.
