Shaking Your Mobile Device
When you have eggs in your incubator, you can see just how many kilometers are left for you to cover before they hatch. If the distance is not too much, you don’t have to go outside and walk around. Shaking the phone will work out just fine.
10 minutes of shaking your device will get you about a quarter of a kilometer covered, but sometimes you can get more kilometers and other times less. The method is a hack and gives varying results.

What Do I Need Candy For Again
Weve explained this before, and longtime Pokémon Go players will already know this, but: Candy is necessary for evolving or powering up your monsters. The only way to amass candies is by catching repeat Pokémon or by walking around with one as your special buddy.
That makes buddy Pokémon especially useful for strengthening rarer finds. If youve been dying to evolve your starter Pokémon be it Charmander or Pikachu but have never found one in the wild, choosing it as your buddy will net you the candy needed to eventually get that Charmeleon or Raichu.
To select a Pokémon as a Buddy Pokémon for the first time, Trainer needs to:
- tap on Trainers portrait in the bottom left corner of the Map View,
- in the Trainers profile screen, tap the Buddy button to select a Buddy Pokémon.
After selecting, the first Buddy Pokémon, it cannot be removed but only swapped with another Pokémon.
Once Trainer selected a Pokémon as their Buddy, they can access their Buddy Profile screen in two ways:
To swap out Buddy Pokémon, Trainer needs to:
- go to their Buddy Profile screen and tap the Swap Buddies button at the very bottom of the page.
Trainer can view Pokémon they have previously set as their Buddy by tapping the Buddy History button that is located below the Trainer level progress bar in the Trainers profile screen. Trainer can also Swap Buddy Pokémon from the Buddy History page.
Trainers can only swap out their Buddy Pokémon 20 times per day.

How To Make Your Buddy Excited With Or Without A Poffin In Pokmon Go
When in Adventure mode, performing activities with Buddies increases their mood. The highest level mood, excited can also give you benefits for a limited time.
When your buddy is excited as indicated by a cheering icon surrounded by Hearts then youll receive the following benefits:
- Candy distances will be halved
- Your daily Heart cap increases to 20
Getting a Pokémon excited, then, has its perks. To get it excited, there are two methods:
To make a Pokemon excited, you can either:
- Use Poffin a shop-only item you can purchase from the shop for 100 Coins which also fills all feeding heart meters for the day
- Perform enough actions to reach a certain threshold
Though the second one is free, its neither easy or particularly obvious from the outset. You must collect 32 points from performing various activities, but you cannot do them at once each individual activity has a 30 minute cooldown, with the exception of walking.
Heres how many points you get from each activity :
Some clarifications on the above, thanks to TheTraveller on reddit you can get multiple Battle points within a half hour if you Battle different ways and Souvenirs, Presents and visiting new Stops have no cooldown, just like walking.
Its also important to note that, with the introduction of the Season of Celebrations on Tuesday, 1st December, the number of hearts you can earn daily from battling was increased to three.

Other Stuff You Can Do While Walking
Weve talked about all of the instances where walking can be useful, but there is more that you can do:
- Many players take this opportunity to pop an Incense. Incense spawn Pokemon at your location. Its been noted in early versions of the game code that Incense are more effective and spawn Pokemon more frequently if youre walking around as opposed to standing still. Heres how Incense work!
- A lot of players also head to areas where there is an abundance of Pokestops. There are often loops that you can walk to just continuously collect Pokestops. This is a great way to hatch eggs and beef up your inventory at the same time.
- The game will vibrate when a Pokemon spawns on your map. That means you dont have to actively look at the screen while playing. You can engage in the games battery saver mode to preserve your precious battery life. Alternatively, you can use this opportunity to manage your Pokemon, your items, check on your badges, and do other stuff in the game.

How To Rename Eevee To Evolve Into Sylveon Leafeon Glaceon Umbreon Espeon Vaporeon Jolteon And Flareon
Evolving Eevee using the required 25 Eevee candy will produce a random evolution. However, you can control which type it turns into by renaming the monster beforehand:
- Rename Kira to evolve into Fairy-type Sylveon
- Rename Linnea to evolve into Grass-type Leafeon
- Rename Rea to evolve into Ice-type Glaceon
- Rename Sakura to evolve into Psychic-type Espeon
- Rename Tamao to evolve into Dark-type Umbreon
- Rename Rainer to evolve into Water-type Vaporeon
- Rename Sparky to evolve into Electric-type Jolteon
- Rename Pyro to evolve into Fire-type Flareon
There are some caveats here. This only works one time per evolution, so if you plan to use your Eeveelution in battle, make sure youve chosen an Eevee with favourable stats. The naming trick is currently the only guaranteed way to evolve Vaporeon, Jolteon or Flareon once youve done it once, itll be up to random chance if you get another, regardless of what youve named it.
There are tricks to reliably evolving the other Eevee varieties more than once, though

How To Manage Motivation
So youve captured the gym and put your best team in it. Youre set, right? Theres no way someone is going to take it from you. That used to be the case, but with the latest update things have changed. Now you have to take into account motivation, which is your Pokemons willingness to fight translated in combat power. Every day you hold a gym, the CP of your Pokemon drops. Once it hits zero, your Pokemon get kicked out of the gym unless you feed berries to each one holding it. To make matters worse, Pokemon with CP above 3,000 lose motivation faster. This ensures a more dynamic map, but also makes it harder to hold gyms. Thats why youll want to keep yourself well stocked with berries so you can keep your Pokemon in fighting shape.
