Pokemon Go Friend Ranks

Each time you send a gift to a friend, trade or battle in a raid together, your friendship level increases.

You can only increase your friendship level once per day, so it won’t matter if you battle and send them a gift in the same day, the rank only will still only increase once.

There are four different friendship ranks, denoted by how many hearts are next to each Trainer’s name.

Friends can be one of four ranks:

• Good Friends – 1 Interaction
• Ultra Friends – 30 Interactions
• Best Friends – 90 Interactions

It’ll take approximately 90 days to reach Best Friends status if you do one interaction every day.

In The Core And Side Series Games

Friendship debuted in Generation I as a mechanic that applied only to the player‘s Pikachu in Pokémon Yellow. In Generation II, it was expanded to cover all Pokémon. In all games, friendship is a value that ranges from 0 to 255 . A Pokémon caught in a Friend Ball starts with 200 friendship instead of its base friendship, while a Pokémon hatched from an Egg starts with 120 friendship.

Friendship is generally increased by taking good care of a Pokémon. Keeping a Pokémon in the player’s party, raising it, using items on it, and getting it groomed will all increase a Pokémon’s friendship. Letting it faint and using bitter herbal medicines on it will decrease a Pokémon’s friendship.

Walk With Your Pokemon

A passive way to raise a Pokemon’s friendship is to travel around the map with the Pokemon outside of its Pokeball. The Pokemon increases in friendship every so often, with the amount of steps you take.

A Pokemon holding the Soothe Bell will have its friendship growth boosted, which is a quick and easy way of raising friendship stats. Let a Pokemon holding a Soothe Bell participate in battle and walk around with you in order to get the maximum possible friendship boost.

Challenging Each Other To A Battle

Players can choose to challenge another friend to a battle in Pokemon GO when they are near one another. This method functions similarly to Pokemon GO’s competitive Battle League as players will be given the choice of three Pokemon from their collection as well as two shields to use throughout the battle. After this battle is finished, players will be granted a boost to their friendship levels.

Friendship In Generation 1 Pokemon Games

Technically, the only Generation 1 game that possessed friendship mechanics was Pokemon Yellow, as Pokemon Red & Blue did not.
