Weve loved watching you share your team pride and band together with others to take on new challenges. Are you ready to take your talents to a new team? The team leaders would be excited to recruit you!

Were happy to share Team Change with you. Later this month, starting at 1:00 p.m. PST on February 26, Team Change will allow Trainers to change teams once per year. Interested Trainers will be able to purchase a Team Medallion for 1,000 PokéCoins from the shop.

Choose your team wisely, Trainers, as you may only purchase a Team Medallion once every 365 days. Once purchased, you can find the Team Medallion in your Bag. When you decide to activate it, youll be guided through the team-selection screens to choose your new team.

Any of your Pokémon that are in Gyms when you change teams will be returned with no PokéCoins earned once its defeated. You also cant battle your own Pokémon, so if you return to a Gym one of your Pokémon is defending, your Pokémon will be returned to you with no PokéCoins earned.

We cant wait to see the new Gyms you win with your friends and Pokémon! Theres just one question: Will you be hatching Eggs with Spark, conducting research with Blanche, or battling alongside Candela? Lets team up and GO!

How To Change Teams

Now for the disappointment: this is not a hacking tutorial. Instead, you have to embark on a simple task of persuasion. What I mean by this is that you have to contact Niantic and ask them to allow you to change teams! Now before you think, That will never happen, other players have done this and told Niantic that they chose their current team by accident.

However, Niantic would only consider doing a team change if the gamers trainer level is low and no previous request has been made. So the advice here is to ensure you really want to be on a particular team before you join it. As for how long it takes, according to some Reddit users, the process is slow, but it is currently the only way to change teams.

There may be cheats and hacks out there that would make changing teams possible as well however, it is possible and even likely that all of your progress would be lost when using solutions like that. So if you want to keep your trainer level and youve joined the wrong side, why not give this a go and join the team you want?

Given the high cost of the Medallion, make sure youre certain before committing to any decision.

You should also be aware that any Pokemon currently in Gyms wont earn coins upon their return as they are still technically defending for a Team you are no longer part of, and that you can only buy the Medallion once a year.

There are two methods of choosing your Pokémon Go team between Valor, Mystic and Instinct.

Currently the three teams balance out like this: Blue/Mystic is the largest, Red/Valor is second, and Instinct/Yellow is the smallest. While the game often makes it seem like the teams have different strategies or philosophies, thats all flavor text with no real impact on the game. This could change down the line though, so keep an eye out for that. Of course, while the populations shake out this way globally, your individual area may be different. For example, near me Instinct actually has a sizable population, while Mystic is still the largest overall. This means Valor players can often find gyms to take over, but rarely put Pokemon in already claimed gyms.

Which team to pick in Pokemon GO does come down to how it works for you personally and locally. Is your area dominated by Mystic? That can be a plus, but if you want to be able to fight gyms on your own, it can kill a lot of the game for you. Raids however always benefit from having fellow team members joining you, so if thats how you typically play then stick with the larger group in your area.

Overall Id say join Mystic if you like having lots of teammates around, Valor if you want to have a lot of activities available while still having a decent team size, and Instinct if you want to be the underdog.
