Pokemon Go Celebi Quest: A Ripple In Time Special Research Event Quest Steps To Catch Celebi
Celebi has arrived in Pokemon Go, but to catch the mythical creature you’ll need to complete a special research quest: A Ripple in Time.
The special research quest for Celebi is very similar to the one that allowed players to catch Mew in early 2018, taking place as a ‘Special Research Quest’ as explained in our guide to Pokemon Go Field Research Quests. That guide deals primarily deals with the rotating monthly ‘field research’ you pick up from Pokestops, however – while Special Research is its own unique thing that has its own very specific mythical reward – Mew for the first string of missions, then Celebi for the second.
Celebi first made its debut at the Pokemon Go Fest in Chicago, but now the psychic and grass-type mythical Pokemon’s quest, ‘A Ripple in Time’, is available to all. Let’s get down to how you complete the different quest steps in this special research mission in order to catch Celebi…
How Celebi Event ‘a Ripple In Time’ Works In Pokmon Go
Catching Celebi works much like Mew did back in the first half of 2018, becoming available as part of a Special Research quest line named ‘A Ripple in Time’.
To get started, you need to have completed the third group of tasks for Mew’s’A Mythical Discovery’. Like Mew, there’s no time limit to completing the quest line – so take your time!
Celebi is also has also recieved it’s shiny form in Pokémon Go. This form first came available during the December 2020 Secrets of the Jungle event and, if you played Pokémon Go during this event, you’d unlocked the Distracted by Something Shiny special research quest. Completing this questline would result in you catching shiny Celebi!
The quest is broken down into eight stages, with multiple challenges to complete per stage. By completing every step of the Special Research quest, the Mythical creature will be given to players as a reward.
Though these are similar to Field Research quests, the specific steps are fixed for every player – so if you don’t mind spoilers, you can plan ahead and learn what you need to do to complete them all catch Celebi – which is useful as you’ll need to undertake Raid and Gym battles along the way.
If you already caught Celebi by taking part in Chicago’s Go Fest, then completing the many tasks will earn you Candy to help power Celebi up.

Celebi Is The Second Creature That Was Added To The List By Nintendo It Is A Mythical Psychic And Grass
Celebi is a mythical Pokemon that can’t be caught like the other normal Pokemon in the game. Getting your hands on one can only be done by completing;special research tasks;which will reward the;players with a Celebi encounter. In total there are two questlines in the game that will lead the players to two different Celebi, one is the normal variant and the other is a shiny variant.

The first Pokemon that was made available in the game via the Special Research campaign of the game. Celebi is the second creature that was added to the list by Nintendo. It is a mythical Psychic and Grass-type Pokemon. Below-mentioned are all the quests that need to be completed, at the end of which you will get a chance to encounter and catch Celebi.

Celebi Research Step 4 Of 8
- Walk 10 km with Eevee as your buddy
- Evolve Eevee into Espeon during the day
- Send 20 Gifts to Friends
Rewards: Eevee Encounter, 2,500 Stardust, and 1 Metal Coat
If you havent evolved an Eevee into an Espeon yet, you can name the Eevee Sakura to turn it into an Espeon, guaranteed. Otherwise, you have to walk 10 km with Eevee and evolve the buddy Eevee during the day. Keep in mind that the Eevee has to remain your buddy as you evolve it. Swapping buddy Pokémon before evolving the Eevee will ruin the process.

Mythical Special Research
These Special Researches introduce the player to unique Mythical Pokémon. These researches reward a single non-Shiny Mythical Pokémon that cannot be traded or sent back to Professor Willow. With the exception of Mew, those Mythical Pokémon are introduced first as exclusive rewards during the paying GO Fest annual event before being available to other players, free of charge, through a different Special Research that becomes available a few months later.

A Mythical Discovery is the first set of the Special Research tasks that Professor Willow will assign to the player. It is split into eight parts, and completing these tasks will allow Trainers to catch Mew. These tasks have been available since March 31, 2018.

Other Things You Should Know About Catch Bonus And Medals In Pokmon Go
- There are medals for attending Go Fest events throughout the year. These are required you to attend the event in question, provided you have a ticket, and remain in your account as a badge afterward. Each individual has an event, so for example, Chicago Go Fest will have unique entry for 2017, 2018, 2019 and so on.
- Some medals will only display once youve started working towards it. For example, Pikachu wont appear at all until youve caught your first Pikachu , Wayfarer wont appear until you start reviewing entries and so on. The same applies to various Types and other objectives in the game, too.
- Once you have unlocked a Medal, you can then tap it to see your progress until the next Medal tier. Once you reach Gold, the figure will keep tracking your progress, allowing you to see exactly how many tiny Ratattas or Normal-type Pokémon youve accumulated in your illustrious Trainer career.
- Fun fact each Medal is named after Trainer classes in the main games .
- Creatures received through Trading also contribute to Medal progress, including the size specific Medals Fisherman and Youngster.

If you’ve loaded up Pokemon GO and can’t seem to find where the Celebi quest, you will need to do a few things to trigger it. How Celebi First Debuted In Pokmon Go
Before August, only those attending this year’s Pokémon Go Fest in Chicago were available to catch Celebi.
Ahead of the July event, datamining had revealed a Special Research quest for attendees, which confirmed how the following went down:
- A total of five steps to complete
- Challenges to hatch an Egg, earn Buddy Candy and visit PokéStops
- Catching Unown, Plusle and Minun
- Story text hinting at Celebi’s time travelling abilities
Once attendees registered for the event they could get started.
Another hint Celebi was going to be at Go Fest is through a sponsored tweet from Mystic7, showing a silhouette of the Pokemon in an event invite:

Hot off the heels of the Celebi event that took place at Pokémon GO Fest in Chicago last month, those of us who werent lucky enough to attend the massive festival are now eligible to snag a Celebi of our very own in the latest Special Research Task released yesterday. Just like Mew, in order to snag this Mythical onion fairy, you need to complete a series of tasks to prove to Celebi that youre a Trainer worthy of its presence.
