What Are The Exact Timeframes To Get Espeon/umbreon Via The Buddy Trick

If you evolve an Eevee while it is your buddy pokemon and you have walked at least 10km with it, it will turn to Umbreon during the night and to Espeon during the day. But what are the exact timeframes here, i.e. what times are considered day and night by Pokemon Go? I haven’t been able to find an exact answer to this.

This likely uses the same mechanism the game uses to determine whether to show “day” or “night” maps. I believe it gets the local sunset/sunrise time from the phone. In this case the evolution will be Espeon from sunrise to sunset, and Umbreon from sunset to sunrise.

Update: Now that the evolve button shows what you’re going to get , as the other answer here describes, that’s a much better way to tell when to evolve.

• It definitely doesn’t use local sunset time, though maybe it picks some number related to it. It’s always gotten “dark” between 7 and 8 for me, but in reality, it’s dark at 4 in the winter and 10 in the summer.

What Is The Best Eevee Evolution In Pokemon Go

First of all, let’s have a look at the max stats of Eeveelutions in the game:

Umbreon is arguably the best Eevee evolution form in Pokemon Go as it has great use in PvP, especially in the Great League and the Ultra League. It also comes with some powerful moves, making it one of the top Dark-type Pokemon in the game.

First up is the nickname trick you can use to get either your very first Sylveon to tick it off the Pokedex, or save until you have a shiny/100% Eevee you want to dedicate to be the best Sylveon possible.

If youre unsure how this works, all you have to do is change the nickname of the Eevee you want to evolve to Kira. The question mark in the evolve button should change to a silhouette of Sylveon if you do not see that silhouette, do not press evolve and instead restart your app then try again. This is a one-time use trick so once youve used the name Kira once, youll have to follow the method below for any more Sylveons you want to add to your collection.

How To Evolve Into Espeon And Umbreon

The first time you want to get your hands on Espeon and Umbreon, you can use the name trick detailed above. Evolve an Eeevee called Tamao to get an Umbreon, or an Eevee named Sakura to evolve it into Espeon. After that, you’ll need to evolve them the old-fashioned way, by completing certain goals.

For Espeon and Umbreon, you can also evolve into them based on their in-game method of evolution in Pokemon Gold and Silver back on the Game Boy – based on the time of day. Leafeon and Glaceon are a little easier to plan for when trying to evolve an Eevee, as they require specific items and locations in order to get them.

First you’ll need a special type of Lure from the Shop–either a Mossy Lure or a Glacial Lure –which cost 200 Pokecoins each. Next, head to a nearby PokeStop and activate the lure corresponding to the Eeveelution you’re looking for, Mossy for Leafeon or Glacial for Glaceon. Finally, use 25 Eevee Candies to evolve the Eevee into the form of choice.

Once again there’s a nickname for each form that can bypass these requirements, but as before the nicknames only work one time. If you need a quick Leafeon or Glaceon and can’t get to a PokeStop, here’s the names to use:

Pokemon Go: The Two Ways To Evolve Eevee Into Umbreon

Since Umbreon is Eevee’s Dark-type evolution, it makes sense that its evolution is tied to night. This is further shown by its Psychic-type counterpart Espeon, which evolves during the daytime. There is also a trick that exists in Pokemon GO that can force evolution into any Eevee-lution one time without meeting any of the evolution requirements. However, once this nickname-based trick is used, it cannot be used again on the same account.

The normal way to evolve Eevee into Umbreon is to set the desired Eevee as a Buddy Pokemon and travel a minimum of 10 kilometers with it. Once that distance has been traversed, players will want to feed their Eevee 25 candies and evolve it at nighttime while the Eevee is still the player’s buddy. This will transform it into Umbreon.
