Pokmon Blastoise #009/165r Commissioned Presentation Galaxy Star Hologram
A two-of-a-kind card that suddenly became one of the most valuable Pokémon cards of all time
Sold for $360,000 in January 2021
One of only two such Pokémon cards in existence – making it extremely rare – this Blastoise suddenly became one of the most valuable Pokémon cards of all time after it sold at auction in January 2021 for a whopping $360,000 .
The ultra-rare Pokémon card was created in 1998 as a presentation piece by Magic: The Gathering maker Wizards of the Coast to convince Nintendo of Japan executives to allow it to handle the TCGs English-language release. The game would eventually make its international debut one year later in 1999.
While two Blastoise Presentation cards were produced, this is the only one that has been seen publicly. Even more impressively, it has been graded at a NM/Mint+ 8.5 level by certification website CGC, meaning that the 20-plus-year-old card is in near-perfect condition. The location and state of the other Presentation card remains unknown – meaning that this may well be the only such card of its type left.
How Much Does Gta 5 Earn Daily
According to a study from NetBet, GTA 5 earns approximately $2.5 million a day. They get their data from “Nielsen Super Data for the financial years of 19 and 20.” There are only 12 games that apparently make more money than GTA 5 based on available data. Those games are:
GTA 5 still does excruciatingly well for a game that’s old and isn’t a mobile game. All of the games that make more money than GTA 5 are legendary games in their own right, often being on par with GTA 5’s fame in some parts of the world.
It’s near the top for the best-selling video game of all time. However, its monetization practices aren’t as exploitable as the games above it on this list.
Not Worth Much: Detective Pikachu Holo Promo Card
This card’s value is pretty understandable. Despite the film being the highest-rated videogame movie, it is still relatively new and common to find which decreases the value quite a bit.
Nevertheless, if any fan of the film or the games wants to pick one up, at least it’s only $19.46, so not too expensive to buy! However, some things get more valuable over time so have a look in a few years and see how it fares!

Pokmon World Championships No 1 Trainer
Every copy of this rare and valuable promo card is one-of-a-kind
Sold for $31,200 in April 2021
The first of two rare and valuable Pokémon cards called No. 1 Trainer on this list, this particular card was awarded to winners of the regional Battle Road Spring tournaments held in Japan during early 2002.
The regional tournaments were held as qualifiers for the Pokémon World Championships, with the small number of No. 1 Trainer cards produced for the few winners making them some of the rarest Pokémon cards in existence.
Adding to the card’s rarity is the fact that each No. 1 Trainer card was customised with the name of the tournament winner printed onto the card, making each card one-of-a-kind. According to auction house Heritage Auctions, the personalised aspect of the cards also mean that they rarely appear at auction, making them an even rarer sight in the world of Pokémon cards.
The 2002 No. 1 Trainer card was illustrated by Ken Sugimori, best known as being one of the original artists and designers for Pokémon’s first generation of 151 Pokémon. The text on it reads: “The Pokémon Card Game Official Tournament Battle Road Spring 2002 champion is recognised here, and his honour is praised.” Sugimori’s No. 1 Trainer artwork – featuring fan-favourite Pokémon such as Pikachu, Chansey and Marrill – is exclusive to the card, making it especially unique.
Valuable: Pikachu 2005 San Diego Comic Con
This is a sadly pathetic card. If you compare it to the base EX Emerald card, it is virtually the same. The only difference is the inclusion of the San Diego Comic Con logo. The real difference? An increase of one thousand dollars or more.
For example, if we take a look at this listing for the Comic Con version it is $16,999.99. Other listings are priced at $4,599.95 and $3,750.00 respectively. The EX Emerald card is $30. In retrospect, the sheer amount it has come to cost couldn’t have been predicted, but it sure looks fishy now.

Holographic Shadowless Blastoise: $2475
Out of the three final-evolution Kanto starters, its Blastoise who has the least valuable Shadowless holographic card, reaching heights of $2475 on Pokemon Prices. We say least valuable, but thats still a lot of money for just the one card, and its hardly far behind its sibling Venusaur.
Thats if Blastoise is still in mint condition, of course, which is a big ask considering these cards are over 20 years old. Carrying the powerful Water-type move Hydro Pump, this version of Blastoise was a pretty impressive card to carry in your deck back in the day, but at this point its still a solid collectible card.
Holo Gold Star Rayquaza: $4500
Rather than many cards on this list, this Shiny Rayquaza from the EX Deoxys set is a rare Pokemon card thats mostly just mythical pull from a standard set. During this expansion, Pokemon with a Gold Star in your deck, making them just as powerful as they are gorgeous with unique colors and art exiting the frame.
Costs can vary massively, but spaces like Troll and Toad price the card at just under $4500. It simply combines all the great aspects of a standard card in the perfect combination, and the rarity of it in packs of this small expansion set make it one of the most valuable original Gen 3 cards, and one of the first major shiny cards to hit record prices before other shinies would catch up.

What Are My Pokemon 1st Edition Base Set Cards Worth
If you own any of the cards listed below, condition is the biggest factor in figuring out what your cards are worth. The prices below illustrate what these cards are worth after grading in mint condition as PSA 9s & 10s.
Important to note: It is very unlikely that your cards will grade this high if they have been played with. If you have these cards laying around in less than mint condition, it still may be worth getting them graded as long as they are in pretty good shape.

Tropical Mega Battle Cards
The Gold Star Pokémon cards are considered valuable due to their unique features. The cards have a gold star stamped next to the name of the Pokémon which has color variations, as some of the artworks appear shiny or holographic while extending over the character window. With Gold Star card appearing 1 in 72 packs, its extremely difficult to find it in a pack of cards.
They were first printed in the EX Team Rocket Returns set and later had print runs in the EX series. Two Gold Star cards, Umbreon and Espeon, were also printed in the POP Series 5 set. These cards are highly collectible and valuable.
Espeon And Umbreon Gold Star Pop Series 5
A pair of Gold Star Pokémon cards from one of the most valuable Pokémon sets of all time
Sold for $22,000 in February 2021
Gold Star Pokémon cards are among the most valuable sets of Pokémon cards in existence and command an incredibly high value as a result. The cards are named after the gold star that appears next to the Pokémons name at the top of the card, which signifies that the card features alternative-colour artwork different from the common version. Only 27 Gold Star cards were released from 2004 to 2007, making them some of the rarest Pokémon cards available.
While all of the Gold Star Pokémon cards are rare, only appearing once in approximately every 88 booster packs for certain Pokémon TCG expansions, the very rarest are the Eeveelutions – the many evolutions into which basic Gen 1 Pokémon Eevee can evolve. And the rarest of the rarest are the original Japanese-language versions of the cards offered to members of the Pokémon Players Club, who could spend points earned by participating in official organised play and tournaments to obtain exclusive cards.
While Eeveelutions Flareon, Jolteon and Vaporeon could be acquired in the EX Power Keepers set released in 2007 via the Pokémon online store, their psychic and dark elemental siblings Espeon and Umbreon could only be picked up by players who collected enough Pokémon Players Club points. The Espeon 025/PLAY card required 40,000 EXP points earned, while Umbreon 026/PLAY was even most pricey at 70,000 points.

Five years have passed since Niantic released Pokémon GO, but the game keeps growing in popularity. According to Sensor Tower, Pokémon GO has now made Niantic over US$5 billion in half a decade, or more than US$1 billion yearly since its launch. Unsurprisingly, these figures make Pokémon GO one of the most successful games ever, not just mobile games.
Pokémon GO’s total revenue reached US$1.3 billion last year, with 2H 2020 outstripping 1H 2020, a common pattern for revenue. However, people have already spent over US$600 million in Pokémon GO during 1H 2021, with Apple and Google absorbing roughly 30% of that in app store charges.
Apparently, Google Play accounts for 52.8% of overall spending, compared to 47.2% for iOS. Sensor Tower reports that the game has downloaded 632 million times across Android and iOS since 2016, but 77% of installs have occurred on Android. Hence, iOS users tend to spend more on Pokémon GO than Android users do.
Sensor Tower claims that Pokémon GO has experienced a 34% increase in half-year spending between 1H 2020 and 1H 2021. If that increase holds for the rest of the year, then Pokémon GO could make nearly US$1.75 billion in 2021 alone.
Most Valuable First Edition Pokemon Cards
Originally released in Japan as a video game, Pokémon later transformed into a trading card game that began hitting store shelves in the U.S. in 1999.
Today, these trading cards are some of the hottest non-sports cards in the hobby.
And with a catchphrase like Gotta Catch Em All., its easy to understand why.
On top of common and rare cards in the base set, there are variations such as Shadowless and First Edition Pokémon cards needed to complete an entire run.
Those First Edition cards are especially some of the rarest and some are even considered to be among the most expensive Pokémon cards in general.
And in this guide, we take a look at the 25 most valuable.

Black Star Ishihara Signed Gx Promo Card
A card featuring the Pokémon Company’s President himself.
Sold for $247,230 in April 2021
The most recent card to make headlines for pure value, this card sold for nearly a quarter of a million dollars at auction on April 26th 2021. You can find the full details at our story here, but this card depicts Pokémon Company founder and current president Tsunekazu Ishihara, and was given to the company staff as a celebration of the man’s 60th birthday in 2017.
That makes the card rare, but this specific version is even rarer, as Ishihara actually signed this near-mint card to boost its price even further. The “2017 P.M. SM Black Star #TPCi01 Tsunekazu Ishihara Signed Pokémon GX Promo Card”, to use its full title, is a testament to the raw power apparently held by the Pokémon president. The ability “Red Chanchanko” is in reference to the red vest traditionally worn on 60th birthdays in Japan, and prevents the effect of any attack, ability or trainer card against Ishihara. Meanwhile, its GX move “60 Congratulations”, tells you to flip 60 coins, and take a present for each one. A truly legendary card.
Not Worth Much: Burger King Gold Plated Card
Whilst many different fans loved getting hold of a gold-plated Pokémon card, they are unfortunately pretty useless when it comes to selling with it only costing $20 to buy. Nevertheless, they’re still a cool card to own!

The main reason this card doesn’t make much money is that it was so common and popular. Everyone who got one had the sense to keep it and make some money off it. The more common the card the less it’s worth.

Why Invest In Pokmon
Pokémon cards are the premier non-sports cards to invest in today. The original 1999-2000 sets have been on an upward trajectory for over 5 years, with 2020 being the mega increase, thus creating a cultural demand similar to the 1999 release.
High-End Pokémon cards are being viewed as modern art, with the price tag for a pristine 1st Edition Base Charizard at $220,000.00 and climbing if you can get one. Due to correlations to Magic the Gathering, the prices today should increase steadily over the next 5 years. Outside of the economy crashing, Pokémon is very safe.
Demand for original cards has consistently increased since 2010, but due to awareness, and points mentioned previously, there has been a fearlessness from buyers to set records. All year, record sale after record sale for high-end Pokémon Cards. The fear of missing out on todays price is real.
Is Pokemon Still Popular 2020
On the contrary: While the days of honest-to-Willow stampedes in Central Park at the sight of a Vaporeon might have come and gone, the game remains a sensation. Parent company Niantic, which does not make player statistics or revenue figures public, says that the game has now been downloaded more than 1 billion times.

Pokmon Neo Genesis 1st Edition Holo Lugia #9
A legendary Pokémon on a legendarily rare Pokémon card
Sold for $144,300 in May 2021
Lugia is one of the most iconic and popular Pokémon in the entire series, having starred on the front of early Game Boy game Pokémon Silver and its Nintendo DS remake SoulSilver. A legendary bird Pokémon from Gen II, Lugia is one of the most powerful and hard-to-find Pokémon that players can catch in the video games – so its only fitting that its Pokémon card is also extremely rare.
The Neo Genesis 1st Edition Holo Lugia #9 Pokémon card is described by auction house PWCC as one of the most difficult Pokémon cards to grade, as the result of a number of errors and misprints that were included in the early runs of the Neo Genesis set for the Pokémon TCG. Later print runs were corrected, but many of the cards from the expansion remain more common in their earlier uncorrected forms.
As of May 2021, PWCC claims that only 41 Gem Mint 10 condition Neo Genesis 1st Edition Holo Lugia #9 cards have ever been graded by PSA, with just three earning the maximum BGS 10 Pristine rating from grading company Beckett Grading Services. The Lugias rarity means that it ranks almost as highly as the legendary first-edition Charizard when it comes to the most valuable Pokémon cards.
Just How Much Money Has Pokemon Go Made Already
12 July 16
It’s no secret that Pokemon Go has been wildly successful since its release last week. And despite the game being overrun with a number of glitches and bugs, it has made a ton of money already.
According to IGN, Pokemon Go has been reported to have made more than $14 million across all mobile platforms. It only just released last week on July 6 and already it has become a total phenomenon.
We recently wrote an article that said there are more users playing Pokemon Go than there are using overly popular social media apps like Twitter and Snapchat. Even people who have no idea what Pokemon is or have never played a Pokemon game are getting into Pokemon Go just to see what it is and how it works.
But what makes it so different than any other mobile game? Not only does it use augmented reality to make users feel like they are catching Pokemon in real life, but it actually gets kids playing outside again, instigating exploration and socialization. This is something not many other mobile games have been able to do. And while the game usually has players’ noses buried in their phones , it still has random people meeting on the street and talking about Pokemon, and people in different regions are holding get-togethers to hunt for Pokemon together.
