How To Catch Azelf Mesprit & Uxie In Pokemon Go
Like all Legendaries, the only way to catch Azelf, Mesprit, and Uxie in Pokemon Go is to defeat them in a 5-Star Raid Battle. Youll then be given a limited amount of Premier Balls to throw to try and catch one.
However, where the Lake Guardian trio differs from other Legendaries is that theyre regional exclusive. This means youll only be able to find them in the following locations:
- Azelf will appear in the Americas and Greenland.
- Mesprit will appear in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India.
- Uxie will appear in Asia-Pacific.
Azelf, Mesprit, and Uxie will appear in 5-Star Raid Battles from Tuesday, September 14, at 10AM to Friday, October 1, at 10AM local time, meaning youll have two weeks to catch them.
How Many Trainers Are Needed
Azelf can be duoed, but it will be a difficult battle. Your best bet is to make sure you have three or four players with the top counters and moves.
Using the Circle Lock Technique to guarantee Great or Excellent throws, along with Golden Razz Berries, is the best way to catch Pokémon. Note, though, that Shiny Legendaries are a guaranteed first catch, so you can feel free to use a Pinap Berry if you encounter a Shiny Azelf.

Azelf was added to Pokemon Go back in April, 2019, but like the other members of the Sinnoh regions legendary lake trio, its less straightforward to get than many other raid bosses.
For one thing, Azelf is actually available to catch in the wild, with many reports suggesting that its more likely to spawn near bodies of water. Before you put on your shoes and run to the nearest lake or river, however, please note that Azelf is legitimately one of the rarest wild Pokemon in the entire game.
In fact, many players havent seen a single one in the wild since it was introduced and that includes people who play on a daily basis. Another huge caveat is that Azelf is a regional Pokemon. The Americas and Greenland are the only places where you have any chance to encounter it at all.
Fortunately, in addition to its exceedingly rare wild spawns, Azelf also appears as a five-star raid boss. These raids are still regionally exclusive, however, with Azelf raids only appearing in the Americas and Greenland.
The upside for players elsewhere is that you can use remote raid passes to raid internationally and catch an Azelf even from the comfort of your couch.

Catching Azelf In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl
For starters, if you want to catch the Willpower Pokemon Azelf, youre first going to need a few prerequisites. You must have progressed through the game far enough to have battled either Palkia or Dialga, depending on which game you have. Progressing through the story will get you there, and after youve gotten past that point, youll be eligible to find and catch Azelf as the people blocking the entrance to its lair will have moved.
Your first step is to get to Route 214, it doesnt matter if you want to go from Veilstone or Pastoria City, the route is in between both of them and you can reach Route 214 either way.
Connected to this route is the Lake Valor, which will now be restored at this point in the story. Surf over to the cave at the center of the lake. Enter and youll be greeted by Azelf who is now hanging out in the center of this cavern waiting to battle.
Obviously make sure to save your game in case you screw up . We highly recommend bringing Ultra Balls, Timer Balls, and a Pokemon that can dish out either Sleep or Paralysis to make your life easier.

Catching Mesprit Azelf And Uxie In Pokmon Legends: Arceus
These are all the locations to find Mesprit, Azelf, and Uxie in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
- Mesprit: Located in Obsidian Fieldlands and to the west of Lake Verity. There will be an Alpha Goodra that players will need to defeat. Use an Ice, Dragon, or Fairy-type Pokémon to make quick work of it or aim to capture it. Afterward, Mesprit will appear and give the trainer a piece of the Red Chain.
- Azelf: Located in Crimson Mirelands and to the north of Lake Valor. There will be an Alpha Quilfish that the player will need to capture or defeat. Once it’s cleared out, Azelf will appear and reward the player with another piece of the Red Chain only after the player refuses to give in.
- Uxie: Located in Alabaster Icelands and to the north of Lake Acuity. There will be an Alpha Zoroark that the player will need to capture or defeat. Uxie will appear and say a riddle. The answer is ‘60131’ and Uxie will give the last piece of the Red Chain.
On the bright side, trainers are able to go through these three Pokémon in any order. After collecting all three pieces of the Red Chain, trainers can return back to the lakes to capture them. Make sure to prepare by crafting more Pokéballs to collect them all. Finding them all is required to get the game’s final prize, an encounter with Arceus. From the very beginning, capturing every Pokémon has been its goal.

Lake Trio Raid Hour Pokemon Go
You will be able to participate in this event today, September 15th, from 6 to 7 pm your local time. During this one hour timeframe, you will be able to locate Uxie, Azelf, or Mesprit depending on where you are from at any gym. This Lake Trios spawn location is dependent on where you live. So, during that time, they will appear in the following locations:
- Mesprit will spawn in: Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India.
- Uxie will spawn in the region of Asia Pacific.
- Azelf will spawn in the Americas and Greenland.
If you dont manage to get them this week, they will also repeat, with the same Pokemon in the same locations, on and , too.

Azelf Mesprit And Uxie Counters And Weaknesses
The three Pokémon are all psychic-type, which means they have the same counters. For all three of them, you will want to bring out your strongest ghost-, bug-, and dark-type moves.
The following work as very good counters:
- Origin Forme Giratina with Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball
- Gengar with Shadow Claw or Hex and Shadow Ball
- Tyranitar with Bite and Crunch
- Mewtwo with Psycho Cut and Shadow Ball
Bug-types like Scizor and Pinsir will do fine against the Lake Trio, with the exception of when Azelf has Fire Blast. Similarly, Giratina will struggle against Mesprit with Blizzard.
You should also use weather boosts to help beef up your moves. Foggy weather will boost dark- and ghost-type moves. Rainy weather will boost bug-type moves.
