How To Check A Pokmon’s Ivs Using An Iv Calculator

What does IV Stand For in Pokémon GO? How Do IVs Work In Pokémon GO?

An IV Calculator of which there are many can give you an accurate reading of your Pokémon’s IVs, its level, and the power of its skills. It achieves this by looking at your Trainer Level, the Pokémon’s CP , and the amount of Stardust required to power it up.

This provides a rough estimate, which increases in accuracy the higher the level of your Pokémon. You can also combine this with an Appraisal to get a more accurate reading.

IV Calculators, much like cars, come in two different flavours: automatic and manual. Automatics scan a screenshot of your Pokémon and calculate its IVs based on that, while manual requires you to input the information yourself.

The automatic method is not only the fastest but the most foolproof, as getting the IV range in the correct position can be particularly tough. If that’s the method you want to go for, you’ll need to download an app on your mobile. Here are our favourites:

What Is Iv Perfection

IV Perfection shows how close to a perfect IV score a given IV combination is. An IV combination consists of three values: Attack, Defense and Stamina IV. When you compare that combination to a perfect combination of IVs for that Pokemon level, you get perfection. Perfection is also showed as a percentage value, ranging from 0 to 100%.

Switch Parents With High Iv Offsprings

One thing that will be essential in doing so would be to get the perfect IV spread by having the right IVs in each of the six stats. Breed Dittos with perfect IVs in a way that they cover all of your stats

Once a Pokemon has hatched check whether they have better IVs than that of their parents. If this is the case, then switch them with their parents to produce offspring with better IVs.

Simply holding a Destiny Knot will allow a parent to transfer its 5 or 6 IVs. The Ditto with a higher amount of IVs should hold this knot while breeding. This knot is easily acquirable on Route 224, by the blocked area of Victory Road.

The Five Factors Of A Pokemon

Put simply, there are five things that decide the stats of a Pokemon. The first two cannot be changed or improved, but the last three can. Above is a visual guide for how those values can be viewed in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

  • Base Stats: These are the fixed values of a Pokemon species. Every Pokemon of the same species will have the same Base Stats. Base Stats can range from 1 to 255 in each stat .
  • IVs: Stands for Individuals Values. These act as the DNA or genes of a Pokemon. Each IV stat has a value of 0-31, with 31 being the best. IVs can be manipulated through breeding, but cannot be changed once a Pokemon is born or encountered. You can learn all about IVs here.
  • Nature: The Nature of a Pokemon is determined upon birth or encounter, and influences which stats are increased/decreased upon leveling up. For example, a Pokemon with a Naive Nature will have its Speed increased more when leveled up, but its Special Defense stat will be decreased. Prior to Generation VIII’s introduction of Mints, Natures and their effects could not be changed.
  • EVs: Stands for Effort Values. This is a mechanic to represent how much your Pokemon has improved through battling. EVs can range from 0 to 252 and can be increased or decreased regardless of what level your Pokemon is.
  • Level: A Pokemon’s stats become stronger each time they level up. Those new stats are calculated with complex math formulas that involve Base Stats, IVs, Nature, and EVs.

How to Check IVs in Pokemon Let

The hidden-stat, lots-of-numbers-where-do-I-start thing surrounding IVs as a whole can be a little indimidating. Do you want 6 IVs, or 31 IVs? What’s the difference between IVs and base stats? And what about EVs? And don’t Natures affect them too?

Well, that’s what we’re here to explain. Let’s start with some definitions of all the things that could affect a Pokémon’s stats:

  • Base Stats – the standard numbers which differentiate two Pokémon species. All Alakazam, for example, have a base 120 Speed, whilst all Machamp have a base 55 Speed.
  • IVs – the hidden numbers which dictate why one Pokémon has better or worse stats than another of the same species. So why one Alakazam, for example, could be faster than another.
  • EVs – another hidden number which dictate’s a Pokémon’s final stats. EVs are points which are accumulated in a given stat through EV training, which is usually done by defeating other Pokémon in battle. If two Alakazam have the same IVs, and all other things were equal, one could still be faster than the other if it were EV trained in Speed.
  • Natures – Each Pokémon has a Nature, of which there are 25 different kinds. Most of these Natures boost a certain stat by 10 per cent, and inhibit another stand by 10 percent. Two Alakazam which are equal in IVs and EVs could still differ in move order if one were to have a Timid Nature, for example, which boosts Speed.

Some quick numbers to illustrate that example then, using Alakazam’s Speed still:

Ivs Determine The Type Of The Move Hidden Power

The move Hidden Power may seem Normal-type, but IVs actually change what type the move is. True to its name though, that type is hidden from the player. Sometimes games have NPCs that can tell you what Hidden Power type a Pokemon has.

Like IVs themselves, there is a mathematical formula players can use to determine this as well that has been shared online.

Should You Purify Shadow Ho

What should you do?

Image via Pokémon Gos Twitter

Whenever you capture a shadow Pokémon in Pokémon Go, theres a small debate if you should purify it or not. A shadow Pokémon has 20% more attack power than its regular form, but it also lowers its defenses by 20%. Also, shadow Pokémon know the default charged move frustration, and they can only remove it during specific times in Pokémon Go. Beyond these time frames, theyre stuck knowing frustration. By purifying a shadow Pokémon, they return to their standard form, their attack and defense power are normal, and they can learn charged moves. Do you want to purify shadow Ho-Oh?

For most shadow Pokémon, it all comes down to if you can remove frustration. Niantic has gotten better about having more events that make it so players can remove a shadow Pokémons frustration. Shadow Ho-Oh is the same way. However, because it is a legendary Pokémon, obtaining its shadow version is much more difficult. The only way you can do that is by defeating Giovanni, and the shadow legendary Pokémon he captures rotates out pretty often. It also comes down to obtaining a Super Rocket Radar, the only way to locate Giovanni.

Catching A Ditto With Perfect Ivs

This is the tricky part of the game which is to have several Dittos with Perfect IVs for each stat. The first thing that you can do is you can trade a Ditto with Perfect IVs from other games like Lets Go Pikachu/Eevee, and Sun/Moon or Ultra Sun/Moon. The way to find these Dittos in Sword and Shield is to go to the Den Raid located in the Bridge Field near the Pokemon Nursery.

You need to have the Den Raid colored purple to ensure that it is a high-level raid. Even before you start the raid, you can see if the Pokemon is a Ditto based on the silhouette. Make sure that the background is gold because it guarantees that you can get a Ditto with a four, five, and if youre lucky enough, you can get a Ditto with six perfect IVs.

In the chance that you dont get a six perfect IV Ditto which is most of the time, you can catch multiple Dittos with different IVs that have a perfect rating for all six stats. This allows you to do multiple breeds to make sure you get that Pokemon with an IV lineup under the perfect category.

What’s In The ‘advanced’ Section

If you’re still getting a range of results and want to know what your exact IVs are, you can use this feature. This is a further way in which you can narrow down the results, but at the cost of powering up your Pokémon.

To use this feature, enter the stats as normal, but then power up your Pokémon one time, and enter the new stats in this advanced section. This tool will then re-calculate based on your new data, and will help to further narrow down your results. You can do this several times ifyou are still getting multiple results.

Iv Stats Range From Zero To 31

What Does IV Stats Mean in Pokemon GO

Before generation three, IV stats ranged from zero to 15. However, from generation three and onwards, the stats range from zero to 31. This makes IVs much more diverse. Competitive players want the stats as close to 31 as possible. In a close battle between competitive players, these IVs can make the difference between a win or a loss.

Using The Appraisal Function

You can use the appraisal function to get a rough idea of how high a Pokémons IVs are. This can serve as one of several factors in deciding whether its worth keeping/evolving/powering up. The appraisal will often mention the Pokémons height and weight but these are purely cosmetic and do not influence its IVs.

Why Purify Shadow Pokemon

There are a lot of reasons why youd want to Purify your Shadow Pokemon, and Reddit user ControvT compiled a list of them.

  • IV levels in each stat will increase by 2, which is handy if youre trying to get a perfect Pokemon
  • Level increases, up to level 25
  • Learns Return, a 3-bar Normal-type move
  • Candy cost for strengthening or evolving the Pokemon decreases by 10%
  • Stardust cost for strengthening or teaching a secondary move decreases by 20%

Another reason to Purify is thanks to an update introduced on July 25. Along with decreasing Shadow Pokemon capture rates as mentioned, the update makes it impossible to trade Shadow Pokemon.

Purified Pokemon can be traded, though. Given the IV improvements Purifying offers, it means your chances of getting a perfect mon ultimately improve when you Purify, i.e. a 13/13/13 Shadow Pokemon would be perfect after Purification.

So When Should You Purify

The above means your Shadow Pokemons CP is basically irrelevant. Youre not going to use them in battle and if you do purify it, it wont matter whether its CP is 20 or 600 as itll end up the same, regardless.

However, the IVs are important to look at. Shadow Pokemon are clearly an excellent opportunity to get high IV options, and if youre really lucky the coveted perfect IVs.

A quick calculation shows there is a one in 125 chance of, essentially, nabbing yourself a 100% IV when catching a Shadow species. Theres a one in five chance of getting a 13 IV or higher on each stat, which equates to one in 125 when you multiply them together.

So, if you find one with 13s or higher across the board then, unless its a Rattata, you should probably spend the Stardust and do it. There are other things to consider, though.

They Are Different From Evs

IVs are different from EVs. While IVs stand for Individual Values, EVs stand for Effort Values. While Pokemon have IVs the moment they are hatched or caught, EVs stat increases that are gained through battles in addition to experience points.

IVs can affect EVs, as EVs gained usually go into the strongest stat that is determined through IVs. There are also a lot of items that can increase EVs like Vitamins.

What Is The Appraisal Section

The appraisal system is a feature on Pokémon Go that gives you information on your Pokémon, helping you to know how good your Pokémon is.

This calculator works seamlessly with the in-game appraisal system, letting you directly enter the information that you get from the game. This will usually help you significantly narrow down your results.

Does Iv Score Influence The Move Set Pokemon Gets When Evolving

No, it does not. IVs are values that only influence Pokemon mathematical stats. What moves a Pokemon learns when evolving is not influenced by IV in any way. Nor does it guarantee a better/worse move set.

Yes, unfortunately it is possible to have a 100% IV Pokemon evolve into the worst possible move set. But thats life, Jimmy! You need to farm more and get another one with 100% IV score and the perfect move set.

Pokemon GO IV is not perfect, but when life gives you lemons, you make a lemonade Jimmy. Now go and farm my son, farm!

How Do Iv Stats Work

In at least some Pokemon games there are hidden stats called IVs. What do they do and how do they work? Also, what specific games possess it?

IV stands for Individual Value.

IVs are a hidden stat that every Pokemon has innately, that cannot be changed after the Pokemon is originally generated. Each Pokemon has six separate IVs, one for each basic stat . The IV values can range from 0 to 31, with 31 being the best.

The specific equations to calculate stats at a given level include IVs, but it’s a pretty complicated ordeal.

Here’s the equation for HP:

And the equation for all the other stats:

IVs are hidden values, and there is no way to tell them without simply noting your stats and EVs at several different levels and reverse-engineering them using a calculator. A good calculator for this task can be found here.

The best way to test for IVs upon newly hatching or catching a Pokemon is to save the game, then feed it a bunch of Rare Candies while noting its stats each level. After you narrow down its IVs, load the game again. The IVs won’t be changed, but you’ll have your Rare Candies back to use again.

You can also attempt to breed a Pokemon with the same IV stat as its parent by using a specific EV breeding item. Trust me, trying to get the IVs you want takes forever.

Are Ivs Important

Pokemon Go PvP IV Calculator for Ranks & Stats

Its up for you to decide. IVs are as important as you want them to be. If you want to have the strongest possible Pokemon, then yes, they are important. If you are not interested in that avenue of play, then no, they are not.

The difference between Pokemon GO IV with 0% and 100% IV score is 10% in terms of CP and general battle performance. Its not a lot by any means, but it is important for hardcore players.

How Do Evs Work

In Generation VII, Pokémon are limited to a total of 252 EVs per stat, and 510 EVs in total. As a result, the maximum amount of additional stat points that can be acquired by EV-training for a given stat is 63, in comparison to a Pokémon that is uninvested in EVs.

Just for reference, this is how a stat is calculated:

Pressing the Y button on a Pokémon’s Summary screen will show a graph depicting the EVs it has accumulated so far stats that have reached 252 effort values will sparkle.

How To Give Evs To A Pokemon

There are different methods:

  • Power Items are a series of items which give an additional 8 EVs per Pokémon defeated. Each applies the bonus to a different stat, in addition to the normal EVs gained.
  • Pokerus, a rare status condition which doubles the effort points gained in battle. More info about Pokerus here.

  • SOS Battles, is when a wild Pokémon can call an ally for help, turning a regular wild battle into an SOS Battle. All wild Pokémon summoned this way have their EV yields doubled upon being defeated.

  • Poké Pelago, which allows for passive EV-training of Pokémon currently stored in the PC. On Isle Evelup, these Pokémon can be let out to play on one of three structures on the isle. Each round lasts for 30 minutes. During play sessions, special juices are given to the Pokémon, allowing for increases in EVs per stat. The effectiveness of these juices is determined by Isle Evelups level.Since the maximum EVs a Pokémon can get in any one stat is 252, it would take 63 sessions at Level 3 to max out one stat, for a total time of 31 hours and 30 minutes.

  • Festival Plazas attractions, Bouncy Houses and Food Stalls, can alter a Pokémons EVs for a predetermined price.
