Why Is Pokemon Emerald So Expensive

Nintendo 64 Pokemon Stadium Battle Set

Why is Pokemon SoulSilver and HeartGold so expensive? (Awnsered)

This one gets a price bump thanks to the fact that it includes a Nintendo 64 console but the price for a “new-in-box” version is still insanely high. In fact, the included Nintendo 64 isn’t even a special edition and doesn’t contain any unique art.

This set included everything players needed to boot up Pokemon Stadium, including a console with a standard controller, extra Atomic Purple controller, expansion pack, game cartridge, trainer’s manual, and even game with a special holographic trading card. It’s highly sought after by collectors and fetches a high price if it’s new.

Pokemon Pop Series 5 Gold Star Espeon

Sold in February, 2021 for $22,100

Like its Umbreon counterpart that we covered a little bit ago, the 2007 POP Series 5 Gold Star Espeon is one of the two most-desired cards in the 17-card promotional set.

The Gold Star symbol next to the character’s name in the upper-left side of the card denotes the increased rarity of the card.

Masakazu Fukuda mixed an intense color scheme with a striking outline of Espeon to deliver a fantastic card with tremendous eye appeal.

Pokemon German First Edition Glurak

Sold in January, 2021 for $37,000

If you come across a First Edition Charizard from the German release, you’ll notice that Charizard’s name is instead “Glurak.”

Also, unlike the English version, you’ll notice the First Edition German version is not shadowless.

That’s true of the other non-English first editions as well.

Of the 900 German first edition Gluraks that PSA has graded at the time of this writing, 50 have received the lofty PSA 10 distinction.

That’s about a 5.5% success rate compared to around 3.7% for the English first edition Charizards, making it relatively easier to find in that condition.

Pokemon French First Edition Dracaufeu

Sold in February, 2021 for $37,300

The First Edition Dracaufeu, or the French name for Charizard, is also relatively easier to find in PSA 10 condition than the English version.

Though only 28 examples have achieved that grade, PSA has only graded 382 overall, meaning that roughly 7% of them are PSA 10s.

Pokemon Ruby Sapphire And Emerald

Interestingly it looks as if the first Pokemon games to come to the Game Boy Advance are more pricey in new condition than the Johto games. A brand new copy of Pokemon Sapphire recently sold for £750 and is also listed elsewhere for $1,000.

However, Emerald seems a little rarer having sold for $1,725, $2,750 and $3,333. This is testament to just how much the prices of new, collectable games can fluctuate.

Double Dragon Advance: $40 $170

One of many retro revivals on the GBA, Double Dragon Advance is actually a remake of the arcade original by Technos. Published by Atlus and developed by Million Double Dragon Advance offers the same kind of sold beat em up action the series has always been known for.

The game was reviewed well but most likely didnt reflect that in the sales department due to the age of the series name at the time. More modern successful takes like Double Dragon Neon and IV have given the series renewed attention and have most likely helped keep the price of older gems like this steady. Carts on their own go for around $44 and completed copies have seen a steady rise over time to at least the $130 range.

Pokemon Black 2 & White 2 852 Million

Most people consider Pokemon Black & White to be some of the greatest games of all time. Consequently, it goes without saying that the announcement of sequels to these games was met with positive reception across the board, turning Black 2& White 2 into the 15th highest-selling titles in the series.

Being the last 2D entries in the series with the 3D era of Pokemon games being widely polarizing with many hardcore fans these games are must-plays for any fan.

Why Are The Ds Pokemon Games So Expensive

WHY are POKEMON CARDS SO EXPENSIVE?

There is an increase in demand for Nintendo DS games, fueled by lockouts and nostalgia. The price of popular Nintendo DS games such as Pokémon HeartGold has increased significantly since the pandemic started in March 2020, according to PriceCharting. Many old-school video games and collectible items, such as Pokémon cards, saw a sharp rise as well.

Pokemon First Edition Hitmonchan

Sold in November, 2020 for $23,100

Packing tremendous punching power, the fighting-type Hitmonchan is another collector favorite who can strike with extreme quickness and precision.

Ken Sugimori delivered an excellent design for this card as Hitmonchan’s boxing gloves, shoulder pads, and five protrusions on the top of its head create an aura of a Pokemon that you don’t want to face.

Hitmonchan cards were some of the most commonly used cards in competitive play, making them tough to find in top condition.

The Game’s Unique Code

Why is Pokémon Platinum more expensive than other Pokémon ...

As previously mentioned, every Nintendo DS game has a 10-digit code at the bottom of the cartridge’s sticker. The code can be broken down as follows:

  • System code The first three digits display the letters NTR. This stands for “Nitro,” a code name for the Nintendo DS during its development. Every game features these letters at the beginning of the code.
  • Game code Every game has a four-digit, game-specific code relative to their region. As can be seen above, Pokémon HeartGold has a game code of IPKE in North America and IPKP in Europe and Australia. Keep in mind your game’s region when buying, and compare the game code to other cartridges being sold online.
  • Region code Make sure the region code corroborates the game code. USA for North America, EUR for Europe/Australia, and JPN for Japan. A genuine North American copy of Pokémon HeartGold should always have the code NTR-IPKE-USA at the bottom of the sticker.

Pokemon Gold Silver And Crystal

Gen 2 had a tough act to follow but it did so supremely well. Despite being next to some of the most iconic in gaming history period, the Johto region lived up to fans expectations.

Much like Red, Blue and Yellow, they are still widely played today. Again though, finding a brand new copy of them wont come cheap.

They are apparently a little cheaper than the first games, however. One listing saw a sealed copy of Pokemon Silver sell for £480.

Prices are similar in North America too, with Silver and Gold selling for around $600 and Pokemon Crystal a little more at $700.

How To Know If You’ve Been Duped

If you’ve come across a GBA Pokémon game at a flea market and are unsure if it’s legitimate or not, there are two simple ways to test for authenticity:

1. The text before the save-select screen

Pokémon Emerald dry battery start-up message

Place your game in your GameBoy Advance or Nintendo DS Lite. Upon booting up the game, a fake GBA Pokémon game will simply read, “The previous save file will be loaded. The game can be played.” before the save-select screen appears. Authentic games will not show that message, but simply direct you to the save select screen.

An authentic copy of Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald with a dry battery will display the message, “The internal battery has run dry. The game can be played. However, time-based events will no longer occur.” Your game is fine the battery just needs replacing to complete specific tasks that require a day-night cycle to be running.

2. Compatibility with Generation 4 games

Pokémon FireRed migration option with Pokémon HeartGold

If you own an original Nintendo DS or DS Lite and an authentic copy of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, or SoulSilver, you can test whether your GBA Pokémon game is authentic. Simply place both games into your DS or DS Lite and boot up the DS title. There will be a “Migrate from ” option on the save select screen as long as a GBA Pokémon game is inserted. Fake GBA Pokémon games will not trigger this menu option.

Why Are Pokmon Black 2 And White 2 So Expensive

  • Everywhere I look, Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 are significantly more expensive than any other Pokémon game, including the ones that just came out. They usually sell for $50+, sometimes even over $100! Black and White usually sell for about $30, Lets Go Eevee and Lets Go Pikachu sell for $40 if bought straight from the Nintendo company, games like X/Y, OR/AS, and S/M/US/UM sell for $40 tops for a new one, with the average game selling at about $15. GBA and GBC games sell for $20 at the most. D/P/Pt can be bought for $10, and HG/SS for $30 at the most. Yes I did research, because I feel like this is seriously an issue. Any other game can be easily bought for $30 or less, excluding LGE and LGP. So why the heck are B2 and W2 so dang expensive? Is it really worth over $50 or even $100?Cotagd – 2 years ago- report
  • Pocky & Rocky With Becky: $125 $770

Scalpers Are Ruining POKEMON!!! (Why Pokemon Cards are so Expensive)

Much like its predecessors on SNES the third and final entry in the short lived but cult followed Pocky and Rocky series claims a spot on the GBAs list. This 2002 North American and Japan only release features multi-directional shooter gameplay very similar to the Super Nintendo originals. It also seems to be one of the hardest games to find in a complete or sealed condition

Most gamers that lived through the Game Boy Advance launch remember a lot of SNES remakes in the GBA game lineup. Pocky & Rocky with Becky falls into this trend, but the developer, Altron, actually based this one more off the original arcade game than simply expanding off the SNES games primarily with the requirement to find a key in the levels to unlock the boss room and the difficulty level is toned down a bit and the levels are a bit more bite-sized to accommodate for the portable mindset.

With few realizing its limited run and its relatively small changes from the SNES counterparts, it may not be a total surprise that you could find cartridges of with Becky for $5 to $7 before 2010. The game was still a relative bargain before 2015, but it started dramatically climbing in value from that point.

    Japanese Promo Pikachu Illustrator

Sold in February, 2021 for $375,000

During the late 1990s, CoroCoro Comic, a Japanese manga magazine, held a series of illustration contests in which entrants submitted their own unique Pokémon designs and attacks.

Little did they know then that these contests would give rise to one of the rarest and most valuable of all Pokémon cards: the Pikachu Illustrator.

Not only did contest winners receive multiple copies of a card that featured their very own winning design, which was exciting in its own right, each of them also received a copy of the Pikachu Illustrator card as an additional prize.

On the card front, contestants received a special message:

“We certify that your illustration is an excellent entry in the Pokémon Card Game Illust Contest. Therefore, we state that you are an Officially Authorized Pokémon Card Illustrator and admire your skill.”

Just 39 copies were distributed to the contest winners, but anyone is welcome to guess how many still survive today.

Considering this example graded PSA 7 sold for $375,000, it’s highly likely we’d see a price tag north of $1 million for the one example in the hobby graded PSA 10.

Japanese Super Secret Battle Number One Trainer

Sold in July, 2020 for $90,000

With just seven examples of this card graded by PSA, the 1999 Pokemon Super Secret Battle “No. 1 Trainer” promo card is one of the rarest Pokemon cards in existence.

Held between July and August 1999, the regional Super Secret Battle events gave school kids ranging from third graders to eleventh graders the opportunity to compete for a chance to be crowned champion.

Upon winning, the champion of each regional tournament would receive this item card as a prize.

Designed by Hideki Kazam, the card features a holographic image of Mewtwo on the left and a Pokeball on the right that make it instantly recognizable.

Across the bottom, the card reads The Pokémon Card Game Official Tournaments champion is recognized here, and this honor is praised. This proves that the person who possesses this card participated in the Secret Super Battle Best in Japan Deciding Match.

Pokemon Neo Destiny 1st Edition Shining Charizard

Sold in January, 2021 for $20,250

The fourth main expansion of the Neo Series, Neo Destiny, is notable for featuring both “light” and “dark” Pokémon whose characteristics and “destiny” are reflective of how a Trainer trains them.

Light Pokémon are caring and bright-spirited, while dark Pokémon are the exact opposite.

Dark Pokémon have appeared in several different series, but the Neo Destiny set is the only one in which you will find the light Pokémon.

Charizard appears as neither light nor dark in Neo Destiny but instead as a special Shining Charizard that gets its name from the unique foil design that glimmers and shines in the light.

The Shining Pokémon in this series also feature a unique rarity symbol in the lower right in the form of three stars.

Ex Dragon Frontiers Charizard Gold Star

Why is Pokémon Platinum more expensive than other Pokémon ...

Sold in November, 2020 for $30,300

Released in November 2006, the EX Dragon Frontiers set marked the fifteenth main expansion of the EX Series.

Of the 101 cards in the set checklist, there are two rare Gold Star cards: Charizard and Mew .

With the odds of pulling a Charizard thought to be roughly 1 in 144 packs, many collectors never had the fortune of pulling this card from a pack, giving it a reputation as one of the toughest Charizard pulls of any set.

Featuring a stunning image penned by the gifted hands of Masakazu Fukuda, the eye-appeal of this card is also tough to match as the powerful creature breathes fire onto the edge of the card.
