How to Transfer Pokemon from Bank to Pokemon HOME

These gifts are only accessible via the mobile version of Pokémon HOME and will be redeemable in either Sword and Shield or HOME.

Once Pokémon GO compatibility has been introduced sometime before the end of 2020, transferring a Pokémon from the mobile game to Sword or Shield will result in a Mystery Gift appearing in the mobile version of Pokémon Home a special Melmetal which can Gigantamax in the Switch game. Beware, though, because it’s not possible to transfer this Pokémon back to Pokémon GO once it has been moved to Pokémon Sword and Shield.

What Pokmon Games Can I Use With Pokmon Home

As you can see above, Pokémon HOME is fully compatible with Pokémon Sword and Shield – you can transfer your Pokémon to and from the app at will.

You can also transfer Pokémon between Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! via Pokémon HOME, and transfer compatible Pokémon to from those games to Sword and Shield, although only monsters that are part of Pokémon Sword and Shield’s Galar Pokédex . Additionally, once they’re in Sword or Shield, they cannot then be transferred back to Let’s Go, Pikachu or Eevee.

Once transferred to Pokémon HOME, your Pokémon will be listed in the National Pokédex . Remember, Pokémon Sword and Shield has it’s own Pokédex and is not compatible with every single Pokémon, although with the additional Pokémon from the Expansion Passes, Sword and Shield will support over 600 Pokémon.

It is not currently possible to transfer Pokémon from Pokémon GO to Pokémon HOME, although the feature is coming. It should be noted that transferred Pokémon cannot be moved back to Pokémon GO once they have been moved to Pokémon HOME.

For previous generation games, all Pokémon must be transferred via Pokémon Bank on 3DS. While it is possible to transfer Gen 1 and Gen 2 Pokémon from the 3DS Virtual Console releases of the original Game Boy games , it is not possible to move Pokémon from original Game Boy cartridges to Pokémon HOME.

How To Move Pokmon From Game Boy Advance And Ds Pokmon Games To Pokmon Home

Though not officially supported by Pokémon Bank or Pokémon Home, it is possible to get creatures from the other games in the series, such as Ruby and Sapphire or Diamond and Pearl, over to modern games.

The following games require a much more convoluted process to transfer Pokémon to either the Pokémon Bank and beyond. Again, note that all of these are one-way transfers only – meaning you cannot get these Pokémon back onto their original games once transferred.

Here’s what’s supported from older generations:

Gen 1: Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow – not possible

Gen 2: Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal – not possible
Gen 3: Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, LeafGreen – transfer to Gen 4 by inserting the Gen 3 into a DS, then using the Pal Park feature. See the Gen 4 step below to continue.
Gen 4: Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold and SoulSilver – transfer to Gen 5 by connecting two DS or 3DS systems together using the Transfer Station. You can now use the Poké Transporter to transfer to Pokémon Bank.

How To Transfer Gen

Use a Nintendo DS, DS Lite, or any handheld in the DS family with a GBA cartridge slot

Deposit any gen-three Pokemon you want to transfer into a box

Gain access to the Pal Park in a gen-four Pokemon game

Have the gen-three Pokemon game you want to transfer from and the gen-four game that will receive the Pokemon plugged in at the same time

On the main menu of the gen-four game, select Migrate Pokemon from the applicable GBA game

Head to Pal Park and speak with the attendant

Select the Pokemon to transfer

Enter Pal Park and catch the desired Pokemon using Park Balls

Transferring gen-three Pokemon to gen four is a relatively simple process, but it does require access to the post-game content. This means players will need to be using a copy of Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, or SoulSilver that has beaten the Elite Four and champion. In the case of HGSS, the player will also need to advance to Fuschia City in the Kanto region.

Using HeartGold or SoulSilver is recommended for any mass migration of Pokemon. Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum limit how many Pokemon players can bring in each day. This saves players loads of real-world time compared the original gen-four titles.

Pokmon Go To Home Limitations Gigantamax Melmetal And Mystery Box Rewards And Other Things To Know About Transferring From Go To Home

There are a few other things to bear in mind when transferring Pokémon from Go to Home.

The first time you do so, you’ll recieve a Gigantamax Melmetal as a reward! You can claim it via the Mystery Gift function on the mobile version of Home only.
You’ll also be able to open a Mystery Box in Pokémon Go, causing Meltan to appear for a set period of time. More on that in our Melmetal and Mystery Boxes guide!

Not all Pokémon can be transferred from Go to Home. Specifically, you can’t transfer Spinda, Kyurem Black/White, any Shadow or Mega Evolved Pokémon, or any of the special event Pokémon that have an altered appearance, like Armoured Mewtwo, Party Hat Pikachu or the Flower Crown Eeveelutions.
Pokémon with different forms in Go will default to a specific form in Home . Specifically this will alter forms to:

Castform Sunny/Rainy/Snowy – Castform Normal

Meloetta Pirouette – Meloetta Aria
Genesect Burn/Chill/Douse/Shock – Genesect Normal

Certain Pokémon require you to have caught them or registered them in your Pokédex first, in order for you to transfer them from Home to Sword and Shield. In brief, these are all of the legendaries/mythicals catachable in Sword and Shield via Dynamax Adventures, plus Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Victini and Genesect. Thankfully, when you’ve got your Pokemon onto any of the games above, the process becomes much simpler thanks to the use of Pokemon Bank. Much like earlier with the first two generations of Pokemon games on the Virtual Console, you need a Pokemon Bank subscription to make this work. Make sure you have it downloaded and purchased, then open and sign in to the app. Select the appropriate game from the list above and your boxes from that game will be displayed on the touch screen.

While transferring Pokemon from gen four to gen five was wacky, things are streamlined from this point forward. Transferring Pokemon from Black, White, Black 2, and White 2 required two pieces of Nintendo 3DS software in the Pokemon Transporter and the Pokemon Bank. Pokemon Transporter was a piece of software dedicated to transferring Pokemon out of gen-five games into Pokemon Bank.

The good news is that after they were moved to Pokemon Bank, Pokemon could be freely moved between any gen-six or gen-seven game. Once players moved a Pokemon to a gen-seven game, they could no longer move it to back to a gen-six game.

Players can still do this today but in 2023, the Nintendo eShop will be taken offline for WiiU and 3DS platforms and these apps will no longer be available to download. Once youve linked your Nintendo account, you can head back into Settings at any time to access the Pokémon Home transfer system. In the Pokémon Home tab, click Send Pokémon to begin.

Before we go any further, Im going to remind you that any Pokémon you transport to Pokémon Home cannot come back! This is a one-way ticket, so dont transfer anything that you might regret.

Youll now see a screen with the Pokémon Home transporter on it, and a full energy bar . Click continue to be taken to your familiar Pokémon screen. However, there are a few Pokémon that you cant transfer:
