Another way to increase your chances is by having battled a Pokémon several times during your game. You can check to see how many times you’ve fought a specific Pokémon by checking your Pokédex. Your chances of finding a shiny increase incrementally when you’ve fought the same Pokémon 1, 20, 50, 100, 200, 300, or 500 times total. That means that the best way to increase your chances is by having fought the same Pokémon 500 times during your game. That’s definitely a lot, but for the serious shiny hunter, it’s worth it. If you’ve gotten to the end of the game, you might have gotten close to that number. Otherwise, it will take a lot of work to battle a Pokémon that much.
Fun fact, I’ve been shiny hunting for Wooloo for over 17 hours. In that time, I’ve fought well over 1,000 of them. However, the Pokédex stops counting once you’ve fought 999 of the same Pokémon.
How To Catch A Shiny Pokemon In Sword And Shield
Completing a Pokedex and becoming the champion are the two main goals of most Pokemon game players. However, there is another highly respected challenge: attempting to catch the Shiny versions of Pokemon.
The odds of encountering a Shiny Pokemon are very minuscule compared to average Pokemon. However, trainers will be pleased to know that there are a few ways to increase the chances of catching highly desirable Shiny Pokemon.
Getting The Shiny Charm To Increase Your Shiny Spawn Rate
The primary method through which you can increase your chances of finding a Shiny Pokemon is through getting your hands on the Shiny Charm, a special item that’s been in past games that returns in Pokemon Sword and Shield. The Shiny Charm is essentially a useful little item that when held has a passive bonus that boosts the rate at which shiny Pokemon appear. The shiny charm takes that base rate of 1/4096 and boosts it to 1/1365.
Here’s the bad news: the shiny charm can only be obtained once you’ve completed your Galarian Pokedex. That’s something that’s only possible in the post game, since some of the 400-some Pokemon available in Sword and Shield are only obtainable after you’ve become Champion and entered the post game. Either way, that’s a whole lot of work.
Once you’ve completed your Galar Pokedex by catching one of every creature in the game, head to Circhester Town and visit the hotel, which you can find in the Town Square area. Head upstairs – in a room to the far left you’ll find some people talking, a man and a woman. Talk to the man – he’s in a doctor’s uniform – and he’ll turn over the Shiny Charm.

Where To Get The Shiny Charm In Pokmon Sword And Shield
The Crown Tundra part of the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass gives players access to a new map populated by more than 100 additional Pokémon, including legendaries from past games. It turns out that shinies are even more common in this area. If you want to catch the super rare shiny versions of Kyogre, Lugia, and others, your best bet is to get the Shiny Charm. Here’s how to get the item and increase your chance of catching shiny Pokémon.
Pokemon Sword And Shield: Faster Hatching
Another key element to Pokemon shiny hunting would be the ability Flame Body. Certain fire type Pokemon can have this ability. While in combat, this ability has the chance to burn the attackers when they are using physical attacks. Although, Flame Body has another out of combat ability. In the overworld, Flame Body lets eggs hatch half the number of required steps. The player will need a Pokemon with Flame Body in their party while hatching the eggs for this to work. Theres currently 7 Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield with this ability. Those Pokemon are Litwick, Lampent, Chandelure, Carkol, Coalossal, Sizzilipede, and Centiscorch. Carkol is the easiest to get in this group, as players can find them spawning in the Galar Mine. Once players have a Carkol with Flame Body, eggs will hatch much faster.

How To Shiny Hunt The Regis In Pokmon Sword And Shields The Crown Tundra Expansion
You have several options to pick from, which is pretty rare.
Shiny hunting is a big part of the Pokémon experience if you plan on doing more than just beating the games and completing the Pokédex. And one thing that shiny hunters love is static encounters that arent shiny locked.
A static encounter is when you can interact with an NPC, item, or Pokémon in the overworld and either enter a battle or receive the same Pokémon without any RNG.
In Pokémon Sword and Shields The Crown Tundra expansion, for example, there are several static encounters with the Regis, Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizon. And you can easily jump into shiny hunting some of them right as you finish talking with Peony in Freezington.
The Regis are almost instantly accessible to you as you venture around the tundra. The fastest method for shiny hunting them is better than most strategies you could hope for, mainly because knocking out or running from a Regi wont force you to soft reset.
Many players have been talking about how defeating the Regis and then reactivating the floor patterns is quicker than soft-resetting, which could be true for some. So if you prefer this method, simply bring strong Pokémon that can easily defeat each Titan and you can quickly reset the encounter to try and re-roll for a shiny.
How Do I Obtain The Shiny Charm
In order to receive the Shiny Charm you will need to first complete the Pokedex. To complete the Pokedex you will need to have caught all 400 Pokemon . Once your Pokedex is complete you will need to head to the Gamefreak Building in Circhester . Head into the Gamefreak building and look for the Director. The Director will request to see your Pokedex and once you have it completed he will give you a certificate of completion as well as this charm.

Spending more time in Pokémon Go means more encounters, and with each catch, youll be one step closer to finding a shiny Pokémon. On average, the most common Pokémon have around 0.2 percent chance of being shiny, so youll need to go through an average of 500 encounters to finally find one.

What Is The Shiny Charm
Before we get into that, lets explains what is the Shiny Charm in Sword and Shield. If youve gotten this item in previous games, its the same so feel free to skip ahead. The Shiny Charm is a key part of any Shiny Hunting strategy, check out that guide for tips on finding these rare creatures.
In short, the item makes it much much easier to catch shiny forms of Pokemon. In most encounters your chance of a Pokemon being shiny are 1 in 4096. With the Shiny Charm it drops to one in 1365 or thereabout. It does this by basically re-rolling your chance at the shiny two times per encounter. Its a huge boost, which can be combined the with previous guide to give yourself a solid chance at these highly sought after characters.
How To Breed Shiny Pokemon
The rates when breeding a Shiny Pokemon are the same as when trying to catch a Pokemon but there is an additional method: Breeding with Pokemon from two different language games.

Using two Pokemon from different language games increases your Shiny Pokemon odds to 1/682. If you have the Shiny Charm, this increases even further to 1/512.

Basic Odds Of Getting Shiny Pokemon
The basic odds of getting a Shiny Pokemon is 1/4096, which makes it quite hard, especially if without using a method to increase the odds. So, lets increase the odds by hunting Shiny Legendary Pokemon in the Dynamax Adventures.
Get Shiny Pokemon from Dynamax Adventures
There are some reports that you can get Shiny Pokemon from Dynamax Adventures, which is available in the Crown Tundra DLC. However, theres no clue which of the Pokemon you have caught is the Shiny one.
You will only know which Pokemon are Shiny at the end of each Dynamax Adventure when the Pokemon Selection screen appears. So, makes sure to catch all the Pokemon you will encounter for a higher chance of getting a Shiny Pokemon.
You can also get Shiny Pokemon from Legendary Pokemon and Ultra Beast that appears in the innermost part of the Dynamax Adventure. So, carefully select the Pokemon that you will take home.

Ok, so heres probably what youre here for: how to get shiny Pokémon in Max Lairs. Thanks to YouTuber AustinJohnPlays, we now know that the shiny odds for any individual Pokémon is 1 in 300 encounters. If you have the Shiny Charm item, obtained for completing the original Pokémon Sword and Shield Pokédex these odds increase to 1 in 100 encounters.
To stand the best chance of catching a shiny Pokémon, make sure you catch every single Dynamax Pokémon you encounter. When you finish your run, you are given the opportunity to keep any of the Pokémon you caught during your run. You dont have to switch them in to replace your current Pokémon either, just catch them. Since there is a 100% catch rate for any Pokémon in the Max Lair, you can just stock up on regular Pokéballs and use those.
You will only know if a Pokémon is shiny at the end of your Dynamax Adventure run. The Pokémon will never appear as a shiny in the actual battles, but will appear as a shiny sprite on the final screen at the end of a Dynamax Adventure.
You can use this to shiny hunt legendary Pokémon, and you can always go through the set route to re-encounter them if theyre not shiny, provided you didnt pick it of course.

The Impact Of Gym Badges
Youll gradually gain access to more and more of the WildArea as you progress in your adventure, so its best to revisit it as youcomplete major objectives. Plus, if you wander too far in your first trip tothe Wild Area, youll definitely find some Pokémon so powerful that you donthave good odds of defeating them!
Until you have all eight Gym Badges, therell be a cap onhow many Exp. Points very high-level wild Pokémon can give. For instance, ifyou have only two Gym Badges, any opposing Pokémon over Lv. 35 will give Exp.Points as though it were a Lv. 35 Pokémon. Youll also need to collect Gym Badgesto trigger higher-level Max Raid Battles, with the five-star level onlybecoming available after youve obtained the Dragon Badge.
The weather you experience in the Wild Area will also berestricted early in your journey. You wont see blizzards or sandstorms untilyouve reached Hammerlocke, and you wont see fog until youve become Champion.
Having more Gym Badges may also impact which items youreceive from other features in the Wild Area. For example, there are hikers whowill give you items in return for 100 Watts. The quality of these items willincrease a little once you have two Gym Badgesand again once you becomeChampion.
Youll also need to become Champion before certain largerPokémon appear wandering around outside of the tall grass in the Wild Area.Finally, youll receive far more Watts from Pokémon Dens after youve becomeChampion.
How To Catch Shiny Pokmon
To increase your odds of running into Shiny Pokémon, there are two things you have to remember: how many of that specific Pokémon you have battled and how many you currently have in a Catch Combo.
Catch Combos are how many of the same Pokémon youve caught in a row. If you are hunting for a Shiny Caterpie, you should go to where Caterpie spawn and catch as many in a row as you can. Run from other Pokémon you may run into, and focus on catching Caterpie. Catch Combos stop adding to your Shiny chance after you catch 25, but doing this dramatically increases your Shiny chance from 1/4096 to 1/2048, according to Serebii.net.
Battle Count also is important. The more Pokémon of the specific species you have battled, the higher your chance of finding a Shiny will be. After battling over 100 of one species of Pokémon, your chances to find a Shiny increase by 2.5% when paired with Catch Combos. Continuing to battle up to 500 Pokémon further increases your chance of finding a Shiny. You can check how many Pokémon youve battled using your Pokédex.
The last important thing to boost your Shiny chance is the Shiny Charm. You can only get this item from the Game Freak Game Director after completing the Pokédex. You can find him in Hotel Ionia in Circhester.
Using all three of these techniques can give you an approximately 1/455 chance of finding a Shiny, which is way better than the original Shiny rate.

How To Get The Mark Charm
The brand new makes its debut in The Isle of Armor DLC of Pokemon Sword and Shield. This brand new item provides an additional chance at finding Pokemon with special mark introductions in the wild. More on what marks are and what they do later.
How do you find the Mark Charm? When you first enter the Isle of Armor, a scientist will greet you at the station. She tasks you with collecting all the Pokemon in the new area of the Galar region. This means filling out all 210 Pokemon in your Poke Dex, over 100 of which were not available in the base game.
Once you’ve completed your dex and caught every Pokemon, return to the scientist at the station. She’ll give you the for your deserving effort.
This special item will increase the chances of catching a Pokemon with a mark. Most marks have a 1 in 50 or 1 in 100 chance of appearing with a few select going as low as 25 and as high as 1000. With the Mark Charm, these odds are increased by making it 3 in 50 and 3 in 100.
So, what’s a mark? Whenever you catch a Pokemon, there’s a small chance that Pokemon will come equipped with a mark. Similar to ribbons, these marks can be applied to the Pokemon it was found on to give it a fancy title whenever it is called out during a battle. Some marks are dependent on the conditions while catching a Pokemon. This includes the weather, the time of day, or if you were fishing. Some marks include:

How To Catch More Shiny Pokemon In Sword And Shield
Catching them all isnt enough for some Pokemon players. For a select few hardcore trainers, its all about getting the rarest and best characters. This often involves hidden traits or hunting the toughest to find creatures. But the true gem of any trainers collection are shiny Pokemon. And nothing makes it easier to get these rare variants than the Shiny Charm. But as the games were brand new, it took awhile for fans to figure out where this thing is in the game. Heres how to get the Shiny Charm in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Breeding A Shiny Pokemon
Breeding a shiny Pokemon in Sword and Shield is the same as previous titles. Since generation four, players have used what is called the “Masuda Method” of breeding a shiny Pokemon.
The Masuda Method requires breeding Pokemon of different languages with each other. Eggs made by two Pokemon from different languages have a higher chance of being shiny.
To get a Pokemon of a different language, do a lot of trading. The ideal Pokemon that players should get in a different language is Ditto. This is because Ditto can breed with any Pokemon. So if you want a shiny Pokemon, catch a normal version of that Pokemon and breed it with a Ditto of a different language.
While chances of a shiny will increase, this will take a lot of eggs. Players typically grind shiny breeding while watching a TV series due to how long and boring the process can be.
What Are Shiny Pokmon
Shiny Pokémon are essentially fancy, rare versions of the monsters you see throughout your adventure. They usually have a distinctively different colouring to the ‘normal’ variant, although sometimes the changes are very subtle.
While they don’t necessarily have any extra strength for competitive battles, they are often sought after by Pokémon fans as a way to show off – after all, having something that’s rare and hard to find has always been cool, ever since Pokémon cards started to be traded in the playground.
In this image below, you can see a regular Wooloo on the left, and its shiny variant on the right. Almost all Pokémon can be found in Shiny form, although there are a few exceptions. When a Shiny Pokémon is found in the wild, you’ll notice that one of two sparkle animations will appear around the Pokémon at the start of the battle, and you’ll also see a special shiny marker on its Summary page when you catch it.
