There are several different types of Poke Balls in Pokemon, but you’re only officially afforded one Master Ball. Here’s how you can potentially acquire a second using the Cram-O-Matic.
If you’ve been playing and keeping up with Pokemon through the years, you likely know that there’s usually only one Master Ball per game. It’s a surefire way to catch Pokemon and it has a 100% success rate. Therefore, you should always save it for a situation where you absolutely need to capture a specific Pokemon.
Pokemon Sword and Shield’s new Isle of Armor expansion pass has a clever way for you to try and double the amount of Master Balls you can get in-game, beyond using the Loto ID system that relies on the Rotom PC in each Pokemon Center.
It’s not as effective as actually using a Master Ball to catch a Pokemon, but it’s a simple way to try to acquire another one, just in case you need another to fall back on.
How to use the Cram-O-Matic to get a Master Ball
The Cram-O-Matic is a new machine that made its debut in Pokemon Sword and Shield. It’s based off the Pokemon Cramorant, a new monster spotted in the Galar region.
You can find the Cram-O-Matic, a robot created in its image, inside the Master’s Dojo in the room all the way to the right of the screen. The character Hyde built it, and will introduce it to your character only after you’ve donated 500 Watts to get it up and going.

Getting More Master Balls Through Loto Id
As well as the two above, you have a chance to get more Master Balls and in theory, an unlimited number of Master Balls through Loto ID.
Loto ID is pretty simple its a Lottery based on Trainer IDs. There are five different prizes with the prize you get based on how many characters of the ID number you match. The prizes scale as follows:
- 1 Number: Moomoo Milk
- 4 Numbers: Rare Candy
- 5 Numbers: 1 Master Ball
As you can see, the top tier of Loto ID prize, earned for matching 5 digits, is a Master Ball. Match 5 digits, and get a Master Ball! You can participate in Loto ID once a day from the PC inside any Pokemon Center so thats 365 chances a year!
While the odds of having a 5-number Loto ID draw are vanishingly small, you can increase your odds slightly.
Your Loto ID draw is checked not just against your personal trainer ID, but against all Pokemon in your party and boxes. When a Pokemon is caught, the ID number of the trainer who caught it is attached to that Pokemon.
What that means is that by trading for lots of Pokemon, youll rack up a lot of Pokemon with different Trainer IDs which then increases the odds of you getting a match in the Loto ID feature.

How Do You Make A Love Ball

How To Increase Loto
If you did the math, the base odds of getting a Master Ball are 1/100,000 or a .001%. At one attempt per day, the Loto-ID could take up to 274 years before a trainer receives a Master Ball. Luckily, there is a super-quick, extremely-simple way to increase these odds drastically. Trade Pokemon.
When you trade Pokemon with someone you will then have a Pokemon with a different trainer ID than your own. The more Pokemon you obtain from trades that have unique trainer ID’s the more likely you are to win the Loto-ID. Finding unique trainers to trade with can sounds grueling at first, but it is actually incredibly simple with the Surprise Trade function.
Trainers can Surprise Trade Pokemon online with random trainers from around the globe, and will almost never trade with the same trainer twice. For every Pokemon a trainer receives through Surprise Trades the odds of obtaining a Master Ball from Loto-ID increase. But how does one obtain a large amount of Pokemon to trade away?
If you have been breeding for competitive or shiny Pokemon, chances are you already have a couple of boxes full of “trading fodder”. A great way to accumulate a large number of Pokemon is to breed for shiny or competitive Pokemon. An alternative method would be to stock up on Pokeballs and head to Route 1.
While trading away Route 1 Pokemon is not the most ethical, and in some cases it can be looked down on, it is still a viable method of accumulating Pokemon with different trainer IDs.

What Is A Master Ball
A Master Ball, for those unacquainted with the rare and highly-coveted item, is a specially-engineered Poke Ball designed to capture any Pokemon without fail.
Basically, Master Balls have a 100% chance of catching any wild Pokemon, regardless of how rare or powerful they are. The only exception to the rule is that you still can’t catch other trainers’ Pokemon, because that would be theft.

So, if you come across Zacian or Zamazenta in Pokemon Sword and Shield, or simply happen to happen upon a shiny Mega Grimmsnarl in a Max Raid, your Master Ball will ensure that you catch the Pokemon in question right away, without any need to weaken and risk accidentally defeat them, or unintentionally let them escape.
Also, it’s worth noting that you get your first Master Ball in Pokemon Sword and Shield after watching the end credits roll and visiting Professor Magnolia at your home in Postwick. After that, it gets a bit more complicated.
Where Not To Use It
There are a few times where it can be tempting to use a Master Ball, but not all of them are worth it in the end. Rare and promoted Max Raid battles might seem worth it using the Master Ball at first, but they can simply be attempted again if players fail the first time. Normal Max Raid battles are always a guaranteed capture, including non-promoted Gigantamax forms, so the Master Ball shouldnt be used here. A shiny Raid encounter will always be shiny, so if players saved the game before attempting the Raid and didnt capture it, they can simply reset the game and try again.
Eternatus, the other main legendary, is also a guaranteed capture, so this is one legendary Pokemon that players can use a regular Pokeball on a capture it 100% of the time. Every Pokemon in Dynamax Adventures, including the legendary found at the end of a run, has a guaranteed catch rate, meaning there is no point saving them for the harder Pokemon like Palkia or Dialga.

Should You Choose Spectrier Or Glastrier
Ultimately, when youre choosing a spot to plant those seeds, youre deciding if you want the fabled steed to be Spectrier or Glastrier. These similar legendary horse-like Pokémon are both available whether youve got Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield, but you only get one of them.
If you choose to plant your Carrot Seeds in the icy field on Snowslide Slope, youll be choosing Glastrier, a pure Ice Type Pokémon. If you choose to plant your Carrot Seeds in the field at the Old Cemetery, youll be choosing Spectrier, a pure Ghost Type Pokémon.
Glastrier, because it is Ice Type, has significantly more type weaknesses than Spectrier, and doesnt have the two type immunities Ghost Type Pokémon benefit from.
When it comes to their stats, Glastrier has a significant edge in Defense and Special Defense. Glastrier also has a high Attack stat, whereas Spectriers highest stat is Special Attack. Spectrier also trades lower Defense and Special Defense for far superior Speed.
Both can fuse with Calyrex after youve caught it. The fusion with Glastrier creates Ice Rider Calyrex, which has superior Attack and learns the powerful Ice Type move Glacial Lance.
The fusion with Spectrier creates Shadow Rider Calyrex, which has superior Special Attack and learns the powerful Ghost Type move Astral Barrage. Both are extremely powerful Pokémon, and as such neither is a bad choice.

Preparing To Catch Calyrex
As mentioned before, the game wont let you catch Calyrex until youve defeated the Champion. That means youll have to complete the main story and the Pokémon League before even attempting to take on Calyrex.
The good thing about that is youre more likely to be closer to fully prepared. When you battle Calyrex, itll be Level 80 and extremely powerful.
Youll want to head in with a team of Pokémon that are at least Level 80, but chances are even a Level 100 team is going to have a challenge against the monstrously strong Ice Rider Calyrex or Shadow Rider Calyrex.
Youll want to stock up on Ultra Balls and Timer Balls. Ultra Balls can be bought just about anywhere, while Timer Balls are most easily purchased in bulk at the Hammerlocke Pokémon Center.
Also be sure to stock up on supplies, mainly healing potions and Revives. Calyrex is probably going to faint some of your Pokémon during the battle, and you want to have the option to bring them back.
No matter which form you face, youll want to bring a fully prepared and outfitted Gallade to the fight in order to increase your odds and reduce the risk of fainting Calyrex by accident. You can follow our guide to catch and prepare a Gallade, if you dont already have one.
The other Pokémon you bring are less important, but ideally youll want them to be sturdy. This way they can take a few hits if you need to heal up Gallade to send it back out into battle.

How To Find Pokmon Sword And Shield Master Ball
You will get the Master Ball after defeating Leon in the game. Go back to your home and meet with Professor Magnolia. She will give you the Master Ball as a reward for beating the game.

Its worth it though: theres a lot to be gained from grinding in the Pokemon Sword and Shield Battle Tower.

Extra Preparation For Shadow Rider Calyrex
If youre going to be taking on Shadow Rider Calyrex, theres an extra step that will help make the battle much more manageable. The method using a Gallade has one flaw, and thats False Swipe being a Normal Type move.
This means that False Swipe will have no effect on Shadow Rider Calyrex, as it is Ghost and Psychic Type. This can make lowering its health without fainting it very frustrating, especially as Shadow Rider Calyrex is likely to knock most of your Pokémon out with ease.
There is a way around this type issue, though. You want a Pokémon in your team that knows the Water Type move Soak.
When you hit an opponent with Soak, it changes them into a pure Water Type Pokémon. This type change allows you to use False Swipe, even on Shadow Rider Calyrex.
The following Pokémon can learn the move Soak in Sword and Shield: Psyduck, Golduck, Goldeen, Seaking, Remoraid, Octillery, Pelipper, Wailord, Basculin, Wishiwashi, Dewpider, Araquanid, Pyukumuku, Tapu Fini, Sobble, Drizzle, and Inteleon.
The levels at which theyll learn Soak will vary, but youll want whichever Pokémon you choose to be Level 80 or higher to contend with Shadow Rider Calyrex. You can use the man on the left side of any Pokémon Center to help a Pokémon remember the move Soak if it has forgotten it.
Can You Get A Masterball From The Cramomatic
Making Master Balls With The Cram-O-Matic in Pokemon Sword & Shield. This is only available on the Isle of Armor, meaning the expansion pass is required to participate. Speak with Hyde in the Dojo and he will randomly give the player recipes for the Cram-O-Matic. The player will want the Rare Pokeball Recipe.
