Build An Army Manage Your Bag

There are two areas of the game that register the Pokemon you catch:

• Bag: these are the Pokemon you actually have available to you.
• Pokedex: this shows all the Pokemon you’ve caught, those you’ve seen and details the evolution paths.

There’s no need to carry every type of Pokemon as a growing collection in your bag – that’s what the Pokedex is for.

It’s better to keep only the Pokemon you need: that’s an army to fight with in Gym and Raid battles. You’ll need high power versions of Pokemon, but it’s better to have a number of powerful Blissey than one Blissey and a Caterpie, Metapod, Kakuna and so on, because those Pokemon – once registered and evolved – won’t really do much for you. So, learn your Pokemon’s skills and build an army of those who fight well, like Gengar, Blissey, Vaporeon.

You’ll also need to carry those you still need to evolve and hang on to those who need a special item to evolve, like Onix if you’ve not yet got Steelix.

Also keep your eye out for special edition characters – like the seasonal Pikachu. These evolve into special Raichu, so it’s worth having and holding these, just so you can put them in Gyms for others to be jealous of.

Finding: Know Your Nests

Most Pokémon have “nests,” or consistent places where one to four of the same Pokémon will regularly spawn, sometimes even hourly. Sadly, very rare Pokémon like Tyranitar, Dragonite, and Hydreigondon’t have any known nests, but others like Electabuzz, Rhyhorn, and all of the Starter Pokémon do.

Nests currently “migrate” every two weeks. These migrations occur at 12 AM UTS every other Thursday. That’s good, because it gives you a couple of weeks to stock up on any good Pokémon at your local nests, but also changes things up fairly quickly if you get stuck with a bad nest. So, over a few months, your Charmander nest might become Slowpoke, Charmander again, Marill, Drowzee, Yanma, Growlithe, and so on. Nest migrations are seemingly random, though, so you never really know what you’ll get.

Also, Water type spawns aren’t nests because they don’t migrate and have multiple Water type Pokémon that spawn together. For example, Staryu, Remoraid, Magikarp, and Wailmer often all spawn at ports, beaches, and lakes.

The same goes for a few others, like electric spawns. Find a big electric center at a university or other large structure, and don’t be surprised if you find Magnemite and Voltorb aplenty along with it.

What About Snorlax Dragonite And Lapras

No nests, but they often appear in the same areas once a day or once a week. Each has their own environment, like Lapras near water or Dragonite in the mountains, but they also spawn in densely populated areas like cities. In my city, they seem to love the Olympic Stadium and Botanical Gardens downtown.

The best way to find out where the super-rare Pokémon hang out in your area is to make friends with other trainers, join local Pokémon Go Facebook groups, and get onto IM groups that ping everyone when they see that Snorlax spawn at the park.

Leaving Your Pokemon To Defend A Gym Is Actually Rewarding

Gym battles are great, but if you see a Gym of your team with a open space for a Pokemon defender, it’s worth dropping one of your highest level Pokemon in there to defend it for a while. Not only will you help boost that Gym’s ranks, your Pokemon will actually earn you Pikachu coins for the duration of its time there, which you can then spend on lovely things like Incubators and bag upgrades. Pokemon Go: The Best Dark

When you’re going up against Psychic-type raids, like Mewtwo, Cresselia, or the Lake Guardians, Dark-types will often fill out your roster for some of the best counters. Dark also serves as a fantastic check on Ghost-types, since Ghost’s only other weakness is itself, meaning it’ll counter… your counters… so Dark is probably best in a vacuum. Unfortunately, Ghost-types have some better moves available, so when choosing Dark or Ghost for a raid against a Psychic-type, it will really depend on the context.

Mega Houndoom is a fantastic choice. Its secondary Fire-typing gives it some utility against Steel-types, as well as one of Dark’s weaknesses, Bug . While its DPS rating is basically on par with Mega Absol’s, it’ll stick around longer, making it better for TDO. It’s fairly future-proof, too, with only Mega Tyranitar, and Hoopa Unbound posing any imminent threats to its throne. Even then, it’ll outclass M-Tyra in pure DPS.

Darkrai is a great contender amongst Dark-types, blasting in with a TDO over 400 with all Dark-type moves, compared to 302.2 for Shadow Honchkrow and 383.4 for Shadow Weavile. However, it sits behind Shadow Tyranitar and Mega Houndoom. If you’re going up against Psychic-types, Darkrai does better with Shadow Ball than Dark Pulse in both DPS and TDO, but it’s up to you.

How To Make Friends And Trade Pokmon

New to Pokémon Go is the ability to trade Pokémon with friends a feature players have been clamoring for. Trading is a complicated system, though, and requires you to put in a lot of effort to make it work.

First, theres a new Friend tab on your Trainer menu, which allows you to add friends using a Friend Code. You can add friends regardless of physical proximity if you have the code, and you can interact with them in some ways even if theyre not around to play with. Your capabilities with friends is determined by your Friendship Level the higher the level, the better, specifically for trading Pokémon.

You can only trade Pokémon with people youve added to your friend list, and they have to be physically close to you in order for the trade to happen. Trades will also cost you Stardust, but making trades earns you candies for the Pokémon type you trade. Common Pokémon you already have in your Pokédex are relatively cheap and easy to trade, but Legendary Pokémon and Pokémon you dont have in your Pokédex already require Special trades, and you can only execute one of those per day.

Pokemon Go: Best Normal

Look, Normal-types are not as bad as people make them out to be. Sure, you’ll rarely find yourself using Normal-type attacks in Pokemon GO, but that doesn’t mean they’re totally useless. Normal-types only have one weakness , they have a double resistance to Ghost, and they get STAB from moves like Hyper Beam and Giga Impact. They also do neutral damage to every type except Rock and Steel, meaning they can be great generalists. Additionally, they learn a lot of moves from other types, which isn’t relevant in this specific ranking, but it’s worth noting.

The best among them is Shadow Porygon-Z, which is in line with the fact that Porygon-Z is great in the main series as well. With Lock-On and Tri-Attack, it’s going to have fantastic DPS and respectable TDO. Hyper Beam is viable, too, but not as good. But, Tri-Attack is locked behind an Elite TM as it’s a CD move. You can purify it for Return, which is decent as well, but then you lose the Shadow boost.

Note: It seriously looks like Arceus may arrive soon, given that the Season of Heritage promotional material contains very similar vibes to Pokemon Legends: Arceus . It looks like Arceus, while not putting the Normal-type on the map, will be a great addition to the game. It’s an immensely powerful Pokemon, so hopefully that remains true in this mobile side game.

You can use Berries on Pokémon to make them easier to catch. Razz Berries are your go-to berry, as theyll increase the probability of a successful catch, but depending on your situation, you might want to use others. Golden Razz Berries greatly increase your chances of a successful catch. Nanab Berries will calm down feisty Pokémon, so youll have an easier chance of making a successful throw. Pinap Berries increase the number of candies you get for your catch, so theyre good if youre working on a particular evolution. Evolving: Measure Twice Tap Once

I know the feeling. You finally have the 25 candies you need to evolve Larvitar to Pupitar or Dratini to Dragonair. But then those 25 candies are gone, and you need to hatch, catch, or Buddy walk another 100 candy to evolve Tyranitar or Dragonite.

And during that long, long period, you might just hatch or catch a better Larvitar or Dragonair. Or get one from a Raid Battle!

If all you care about is finishing your Pokédex, it may not matter to you. But if you care about getting the best Pokémon possible, ones with the highest stats and HP to attack in Raids or defend Gyms or just show off! then you’ll need the best base levels to evolve from.

Hard as it may be, wait until you have the full 125 candies to evolve completely before doing any evolutions at all. Then, if you get a higher IV base Pokémon, you can evolve that one instead. Or, if you get a third evolution by capturing a Raid Boss, and it’s perfect or near-perfect, you can save yourself evolving and spend those 125 Candies powering up.

Use Your Golden Razz Berry Or Silver Pinap Berry With Purpose

The Golden Razz Berry and Silver Pinap Berry are basically the ultimate berry. They’re really good for helping catch important Pokemon that just don’t want to be caught. If you’ve been after something for ages and nothing is working, the Golden Razz Berry will probably make it happen. The Silver Pinap Berry will give you extra candies too when you catch that Pokemon.

However, you can also feed the Golden Razz Berry to Pokemon you have in a Gym. When your Pokemon is feeling miserable and needs some attention – basically to keep it in top fighting form – then the Golden Razz Berry takes it right back to the top. If you want to hang onto that Gym, this really helps.

Pokemon Go: The Best Bug

Overall, Bug isn’t the best type. Sure, it has its uses, especially in terms of taking down Psychic- and Dark-types from time to time, but both of those types have other weaknesses that are home to Pokemon that are much stronger. With that said, Bug-types can find some niche use here and there.

Mega Beedrill is far and away the best Bug-type, without question. However, even with its best Bug-type moveset of Bug Bite and X-Scissor, its DPS still falls behind. With a monster max Attack stat of 303, though, it’s worth paying attention to, especially with its low evolution cost from Weedle and Kakuna.

For the rest of the ranking, you’re looking at the same familiar faces that dominate the Bug-type in the main series. There are no surprises here, to be sure. Pinsir and Scizor both do very well, whether in their boosted Shadow forms or just the vanilla forms. When their Mega Evolutions are released, they’ll be pretty great, though they may not take down Mega Beedrill.

Genesect has a fun gimmick with its different Drives, but sadly none of them add much value. It’s best as a Bug- or Steel-type, with the moves to match. The different Techno Blast types can have their use in the PvP meta, but they aren’t that great in PvE. As far as Bug-types go, if you’re looking for something that isn’t Shadow or Mega Evolved, Genesect is the best.
