Pokmon Sword & Shield New Wild Area Event Adds Gigantamax Charizard

The Pokémon Day event is now live in Pokémon Sword and Shield and it has added Gigantamax Blastoise, Charizard, and Venusaur to the Wild Area.

The Pokémon Day event in Pokémon Sword and Shield has begun and it’s now possible to catch a Gigantamax Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur in the Wild Area. Charizard was one of the first Gigantamax Pokémon revealed ahead of the launch of Pokémon Sword and Shield, alongside Butterfree, Eevee, Pikachu, and Meowth.

Charizard and its Gigantamax form were featured prominently in Pokémon Sword and Shield, as the Champion of the Galar used the fan-favorite pocket monster as his main Pokémon. The other Kanto starters weren’t present in the base version of Pokémon Sword and Shield, but a datamine revealed that they did exist in the game’s files. Bulbasaur and Squirtle were made accessible in the Expansion Pass content for the games, and they received Gigantamax forms for their final evolutions.

How To Get Dynamax Charizard

As soon as the Dynamax feature was revealed for Pokemon Sword and Shield, questions bounced around about who could be Dynamaxed. Game Freak actually showed off Dynamax Charizard in artwork for Sword and Shield before the games even launched, which is why this has become a pretty popular search query.

Unfortunately, Charizard can’t be fought in a standard Dynamax battle. The only way to obtain Charizard for yourself is to beat the game, find Charmander using the steps above, and then evolve it all the way to Charizard. You’ll have to do it with experience – there’s no way to do it using a Fire Stone.

Once you’ve eventually evolved your Charmeleon into a Charizard, you’ll finally be able to see what the Dynamax version of Charizard looks like. It’s definitely a sight to behold, and it’s undoubtedly one of the most powerful Fire-type Pokemon in either game.

Pokmon Lets Go Pikachu Eevee: How To Get Bulbasaur Charmander And Squirtle The Easy Way

  • 0

Whenever a new Pokémon game arrives, one of the first questions players have is about where they can find their favourite monster.

With Pokémon: Lets Go which strips the PokéDex right back to the original 151 mon this usually means focusing on the classic beasts, including Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle.

After all, these were the starter Pokémon that so many of us grew up with. As a result, you may well fire up your freshly-purchased copy of Lets Go today and wonder exactly how to get them and thats where we come in.

What Is A Shiny Charmander

Pokemon Sword & Shield

So what makes a Shiny Charmander so special? Well, we were kind of hoping that you could tell us because the design is extremely underwhelming. This Shiny Pokemon has one noticeable difference from its standard model and that is the color change from orange to a vibrant yellow.

For some Pokemon, this would be an adequate change. Just look at what this exact change does for a Shiny Magikarp for example. However, due to the fact that this Pokemon is already a quite similar color already, the change is hardly noticeable and in truth, if you came across one, without a shiny animation prompt, we doubt you would immediately notice the difference.

This very slight alteration is a problem with some other popular Pokemon. The Pokemon mascot Pikachu springs to mind as their shiny only changes the standard yellow for a deeper shade of the same color. We hate to see when great Pokemon dont have a shiny variant worth hunting.

Now thankfully, if you evolve Charmander into a Charizard, you begin to reap the rewards of chasing down this shiny but as for the original starter Pokemon, we have to say its a bit of a letdown.

Pokemon Sword And Shield: Where To Get A Free Charmander

Pokemon Sword and Shield are quite generous with the number of gift Pokemon you can receive in the game. You can get a free Toxel as well as free Pikachu/Eevee. Moreover, you can also get everyone’s favourite Generation 1 starter Pokemon, Charmander, as a gift.

In order to get your free Charmander in Sword and Shield, you will need to have finished the Pokemon League and defeated Leon in battle. Once you’ve done that, go back to your home town of Postwick and head over to Leon’s/Hop’s house a few steps away from yours.

Go inside and head to the top floor to Leon’s room. You’ll find a Pokeball there and a letter attached from Leon. The Pokeball contains a Level 5 Charmander which you will need to take care of after having beaten Leon in an intense battle.

Charmander, Charmeleon and Charizard are currently the only Kanto starters available in the game but a surprising leak revealed that at a later point you could also get Squirtle, Bulbasaur and other missing Pokemon.

Although you do get Charmander a little late in the game, there are several other Pokemon that are worth adding to your party while you wait.

Only Kanto Starter In The Base Game

Fans were surprised to find that Charmander was the only Kanto starter in the base game for Sword and Shield, and were particularly disappointed that neither Squirtle nor Bulbasaur had made the cut.

Fortunately, Nintendo and Game Freak seemed to listen to fans and the last two Kantonian starters were added into the latest DLC, the Isle of Armor, complete with their own Gigantamax forms. Though you can only choose one of them as part of the story content, their final evolutions are often found in Max Raid battles, so you can easily capture the other and breed it for its starting form.

How To Catch A Shiny Charmander

As this Pokemon has been around within the Pokemon series and was for many, the first-ever Pokemon that they owned, its safe to say that the availability of this Pokemon is great in terms of shiny hunting.

The problem with this Pokemon though is that it has only been available as a starter Pokemon for the most part, which means that in a lot of games if you wanted to get your hands on one, you would either need to breed Charmanders, or you would need to play through the start of games until you were awarded your first Pokemon.

There are also some other ways to acquire this Pokemon. You could acquire this Pokemon as a gift in Pokemon Heartgold and Soulsilver, in Pokemon Yellow, in Pokemon Sword and Shield, and in Pokemon X and Y. Plus, you would be able to encounter this Pokemon in the wild in the Pokemon Lets Go series and Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon. So while it isnt the most common Pokemon, youll be able to get your hands on one fairly comfortably.

The problem with this lack of natural encounter options means that youll have to use several alternative techniques to get your hands on a Shiny Charmander. However, if you use any of these helpful methods below, you should be able to grind for a shiny Charmander in the most stress-free way possible. Here is a list of helpful tips below:

What Is A Shiny Pokemon

Now that you have a grasp of what this OG starter is all about, we better quickly run through what a shiny Pokemon is. A shiny Pokemon is an alternate version of a Pokemon within the series.

This shiny Pokemon has the same core design, move sets, attributes, abilities, and base stats as the original monster. However, it differs from the vanilla design as the color palette used to present this monster is changed to offer a brand new aesthetic.

These Pokemon offer no advantage to the owner in battle compared to a standard version of the Pokemon. However, what they do offer are bragging rights. These Pokemon often look fantastic and they are very rare into the bargain.

You may be asking, how rare are these Pokemon. Well, some are rarer than others but in general, these Pokemon pop up about once in every 4096 battles. These Pokemon used to be much rarer in earlier generations, only popping up once in every 8192 battles but Game Freak has been kind enough to cut the odds in half. Thankfully there are ways to cut these odds even further through the use of certain methods, but we will explain more about that in due time.

Where Are Bulbasaur And Squirtle In Pokmon Sword And Shield

You might not see Bulbasaur or Squirtle in the actual game any time soon.

Fans who were scared that Charmander was going to be the only Kanto starter available in Pokémon Sword and Shield can rest easy now that both Bulbasaur and Squirtle have been confirmed for the Galarian Pokédex.

But they arent in the standard Pokédex or included in any of the promotional material. So where exactly are the original Grass and Water-type starters?

At time of writing, the answer is in limbo.

So I heard Bulbasaur and Squirtle had data in the game despite being potentially unobtainable, so I decided to test if they worked, and sure enough they do#SWSHLeak

DeathChaos

There are fully-functional collections of data for both Bulbasaur and Squirtle in Sword and Shield, including movesets, animations, and more, but theyre unobtainable right now. They allegedly wont be available through normal means, according to the data miners who initially found the locked data.

This could mean that the starters will be used as event Pokémonin the near future or that theyll be featured in some of the Max Raid Battles that will have trainers working together, similar to Pokémon Go, to catch special Pokémon. This idea is also supported by the fact the Alola region startersRowlet, Litten, and Popplioare in the extra 35 Pokémon that werediscovered.

Proof that Bulbasaur is in the game code, not sure if its via event only though.#PokemonSwordShieldleaks#SWSHLeak#Pokemonleaks

How To Evolve Charmander Into Charizard In Pokemon Sword And Shield

Now if you want to evolve Charmander, it’s actually fairy simple. When you get the Fire-type Lizard Pokemon, it’s only level five, which is pretty low to say you’ve just become Champion with Pokemon that are likely level 70+.

Charmander evolves into Charmeleon at level 16, then evolves again into Charizard at level 36. Simply enter a battle with a high level Pokemon with Charmander first in your party, then switch it out straight away before it can take a hit. When you defeat the Pokemon, Charmander should get a stupendous amount of experience points and shoot up in levels. If it doesn’t hit 36 after one battle, simply keep defeating wild Pokemon or trainers in the Battle Tower until it does. Char!

Give me a game and I will write every “how to” I possibly can or die trying. When I’m not knee-deep in a game to write guides on, you’ll find me hurtling round the track in F1, flinging balls on my phone in Pokemon Go, pretending to know what I’m doing in Football Manager, or clicking on heads in Valorant.

Actually There Is Also Another Way

While we told you that Charmander isn’t found in the wild, it actually is another way to find it and be able to capture it. Keep in mind that the method just explained is definitely that easier to get it, but if you want to try to catch it first you can use this alternative.

The Lizard Pokémon and its related evolutions can also be obtained in Wildland. In fact, with a lot of patience, you may come across the first generation fire starter or one of its evolutions. The most suitable area for your hunting is that of the dens located in Colle Knuckleburgh and Dragofuria Lake.

Be careful though: unlike the specimen you get from Dandel, you will not get Charizard Gigamax evolving Charmander or Charmeleon captured in these areas, but only those captured during the raid Gigamax. The only lair in which it could appear is located in Dragofury Lake, among the giant rocks.

Keep in mind that the odds of encountering a Charizard Gigamax in this lair are only 5%, but on the other hand it could have the special ability “Solar Poters”, not otherwise obtainable. Thanks to it, with “Intense Sunlight”, Charizard receives a 50% Special Attack boost, but loses 1/8 of his maximum HP at the end of each turn.
