For reference, Ive been playing Pokémon Go casually since the day it launched in 2016 and I feel like Ive been sitting at Level 37 since about that time. So how are so many players already at the new cap of 50? Whether youre new to the game or have been playing since Day 1 and are gearing up for Pokémon Go Fest this weekend, heres a guide to leveling up.
How To Reach Level 40
Each new level in Pokémon GO requires a lot of additional XP to level up. Its not a linear progression, so hitting level 39 might seem like youre close but you still have a long way to go. In total you will need 20 million XP to reach level 40 in the game. The last step is to earn 5 million experience after hitting level 39, which only required 3 million XP for its level up at a total of 15 million. So one fourth of all the XP you need to gain in the game comes from level 39 to 40. The XP boosts at the end of this year will be a big help here, making it feel less like a steep climb and more of a steady progression, but you still have your work cut out for you, depending on where you are currently. As mentioned earlier, the Lucky Egg is the best item you can use when you want to earn XP quickly. This item is a guaranteed drop when you upgrade your Trainer to level 9, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40. In addition, you can also buy Lucky Eggs with PokéCoins at the in-game store.
Catching Pokémon is a surprisingly profitable method.
If you dont have enough Pidgeys and other creatures to follow this method, your best option is to explore an area that has a lot of PokéStops and Pokémons. To increase the likelihood of finding Pokémon, remember to use Incense and Lures.
One of the positive aspects of this method, is the fact that if you know an area, or a path, with many Pokémon and PokéStops, you will have a constant method of earning XP during your journey. While this method is not as fast as Pidgeys, it is a viable alternative for those who live near areas with many PokéStops.
It is also worth considering Pokémon Plus. This accessory allows you to catch Pokémon and rotate PokéStops with a simple click, allowing you to cover a larger area of PokéStops and creatures much faster.
Each capture also automatically grants 150 XP, and although it seems like a small amount, if you keep up a fast pace every day, after a while you will have a considerable amount of experience.
Finally, if you hatch an egg while a Lucky Egg is active, you will also earn extra XP.
How To View Your Xp In Pokemon Go
The fastest way to check your current XP level in Pokemon GO is to look at your avatar in the screen’s lower-left corner. The number over the top of it is your present level, and the progress bar underneath it displays how close you are to reaching the next level.
For a more detailed view of your Pokemon GO XP, tap on the avatar to open your complete profile. You should see a more detailed progress bar under your Pokemon trainer’s image that displays how much XP is needed to level up and how much youve already earned.
The progress bar resets to zero each time you level up in Pokemon GO.

Checking into a PokéStop is a good way to get experience points easily. One check in is worth 50 XP each, and truth be told, that really isnt a lot of experience points. But think about the sheer number of PokéStops that may be located in your area. You can find them at the park, you can find them when you go to the mall, and you may even find them near your school or office. Still, as we definitely do not recommend playing this game at the expense of your work or studies, you can visit these places and go hunting for PokéStops. Also keep in mind that there are cool-down times for using PokéStops, usually about two to five minutes. That should allow you to do rounds and go back and forth to PokéStops as you collect more items, and farm for more XP.
Take Advantage Of Pokmon Go Xp Events
The generic advice that most players will know is to play the game as much as possible, use Lucky Eggs while playing for double XP, and catch a lot of Pokémon. However, if a player is working with a budget and has a limited supply of Lucky Eggs, it is important to know that some times are better than others to use them. Pay attention to Niantic’s events for Pokémon GO, because increased XP is often a feature of Community Days, weeklong events, and Spotlight Hours. Those are the best times to activate a Lucky Egg, because then you’ll be multiplying the possible XP beyond just the standard doube.

How Do I Get To Pokmon Go Level 46
Here are the exact requirements you need to reach in order to get to level 46:
- Complete 100 field research tasks
- Take a snapshot of a Pokémon seven days in a row
- Make 50 excellent throws
- Hatch 30 eggs
- Earn 15.5 million XP
Yes, you read that right. Fifteen and a half million experience to level up to level 46. Thats nearly as much as it took to get to level 40 all over again!
Experience Points When You Catch A Pokmon
These are cumulative, so you can earn all of these on a single catch.
- Catch a New Pokémon : Every time you catch a Pokémon you’ve never caught before, you receive 500 XP. When you first start playing, it seems you receive this bonus with every Pokemon you catch. Later in the game, these bonuses are few and far between.
- First Catch of the Day : With the first Pokémon you catch each day, you will receive 500 XP. This is important as you work toward your seven-day streak.
- Catch a Pokémon : Every time you catch a Pokémon you receive 100 XP.
- Great Throw : Every once in a while, I receive 50100 XP for a great throw while catching a Pokémon. I believe a great throw has to do with the size of the circle when the Pokémon is captured, but I haven’t really noticed the pattern to say what it is definitively.
- First Throw: If you catch a Pokémon on the first throw you make, you receive 50 XP.
- Curve Ball : When you capture a Pokémon with a curve ball, you receive 10 XP. To throw a curveball, before throwing a Pokeball, spin it by making a circular motion over the Pokeball.

How Can You Level Up Fast In Pokmon Go
Anyone whos ever played an MMORPG may be familiar with bugs or exploits that allow players to gain XP quickly in short periods. There arent any of them in Pokémon Go, and youll need to understand the XP sources in the game. This will allow you to tailor your gameplay around doing tasks that will get you the highest total XP after a Pokémon Go session.
Your primary source of XP in the game is catching Pokémon, so youll need to make sure to do it in the best way possible. Train yourself to land Excellent Throws, since they award the most amount of XP. If you start consistently landing Excellent Throws, even when youre just casually playing Pokémon Go, the XP youll gain will add up. You can use the AR Plus feature to get closer to Pokémon, making it easier to land Excellent Throws. Abusing this feature and getting close enough will grant you the Expert Handler bonus, a catching bonus that has a base reward of 300 XP. If youre just starting to play Pokémon Go or youd like to rest while playing the game, you can use lure around Pokéstops and have yourself a picnic while catching Pokémon with Excellent Throws.
Aside from these three, focusing on raiding can also reward with decent chunks of XP. The only reason why raiding is less popular than the methods above is it requires you to stay more focused on the game.
Pokemon Go Raiding Xp Method
Finally, the last method, and the one that will actually cost you money is Raiding.
Each time you complete a Pokemon Go Raid, you get an amount of XP.
- 1 Star Raid – 3,500 XP
- 3 Star Raid – 5,000 XP
- 5 Star Raid – 10,000 XP
And like with the other methods, using a Lucky Egg will double the amount of XP you receive.
To participate in a Raid, you will need either a Premium Raid Pass or a Remote Raid Pass. Both of these items cost Pokecoins in the shop .
You’ll also need to make sure you have plenty of Raids lined up- you can use our Pokemon Go Raid Finder Tool to find Raids that are being hosted.
Once you’re ready to Raid, pop the Lucky Egg and try to hit up as many Raids as you can to grind the XP. You will get plenty of other goodies too, like Rare Candy and Legendary Pokemon from Raiding, so it’s one of the more popular methods even if it does cost Pokecoins to do.
You can also try raiding in Raid Hour, which is when Raids start appearing more frequently during a specific hour of the day.

How To Get Lots Of Xp
There are lots of different ways to earn XP in Pokémon GO, but the most surefire way of getting a lot at the start is to invest in some Lucky Eggs. Activating a Lucky Egg gives you double XP for 30 minutes at time, which you can stack by activating more at one time. You can purchase one Lucky Egg for 80 coins or eight of them for 500 coins from the shop, but there have also been plenty of research that have rewarded them as well. In addition, there is the Starter Box that you can only buy one time in the game that includes 3 Lucky Eggs along with 3 Super Incubators, 3 Premium Battle Pass, and 30 Poké Balls for $2.99, but many people wont have that still available.
The next method for obtaining a lot of XP during GO Fest 2021 is to hatch plenty of eggs. Across both days, the egg hatch distance will be halved, which is going to be very helpful with hatching eggs. As a result, grabbing some extra incubators and having them going all day can be very helpful, as each egg hatching provides you with some solid XP that can help as well.
There are also some other ways to earn extra XP along the way like spinning PokéStops, with the first day bonuses and streaks getting you the most XP here. If you are walking around somewhere with a lot of PokéStops for GO Fest 2021, you might as well keep spinning them to make everything easier. This means youll not only be getting items like Poké Balls that you can use to catch Pokémon and get more XP, but also getting XP for each spin.
Can You Just Buy Xp In Pokmon Go
Kind of. You can’t buy XP directly, but you can buy Lucky Eggs, which temporarily double the XP you get while playing the game. The effect lasts for 30 min., and you can get them in different quantities from the Shop:
- One Lucky Egg for 80 PokéCoins.
- Eight Lucky Eggs for 500 PokéCoins.
Lucky Eggs are also sometimes included in the Special Boxes that are made available during events, allowing you to save some PokéCoins.

Battle In Gyms And Raids
Battling in gyms is always good for experience, especially if you end up taking over the gym and can leave a Pokémon there to defend it. Whats even better is battling in a raid.
If anyones new to the game, a raid is when a wild Pokémon takes over a gym. Its usually super powerful, and you can team up with other players around you to take down that Pokémon. If you manage it, you get a chance at catching the Pokémon. Heck, even losing can reward as much as 10,000 experience points. For a battle that might take a couple of minutes, thats a lot of experience points to be giving out.
