Produced as a promotion for magazine publisher Shogakukan’s Celadon University campaign, this Magikarp card was awarded to those who successfully became “Pokemon Professors”. By mailing in the Entrance Test, Professor Test, Super Professor Test, and Hyper Professor Test , 1000 Magikarps were up for grabs.
Though so many were printed, only 91 have been identified by the PSA so far. PSA 10-graded cards fetch a much higher price than any other condition, getting $66,100 at auction.
Holographic Shadowless Charizard: $500000
There are a lot of factors that make the Holographic Shadowless First Edition Charizard card worth so much compared to any other Charizard card. Firstly, its a first edition version of the undoubtedly most popular Kanto starter, which already makes it extra valuable to most pokemon fans. Alongside this, the card is also shadowless, which essentially means the card lacks a shadow between the box containing the image of the Pokemon, and the rest of the card.

Pokmon Neo Revelation 1st Edition Holo Houndoom #8
Neo Revelation is a 66-card expansion that was released back in 2001.
Weve mentioned that dark Pokémon were overpowered at the time, but they were also unique enough to stand out from the crowd compared to normal types that had been seen before.
Houndoom is one such example, with the card wrapped in a distinctive black background.

Pokmon Neo Genesis 1st Edition Holo Lugia #9
A legendary Pokémon on a legendarily rare Pokémon card
Sold for $144,300 in May 2021
Lugia is one of the most iconic and popular Pokémon in the entire series, having starred on the front of early Game Boy game Pokémon Silver and its Nintendo DS remake SoulSilver. A legendary bird Pokémon from Gen II, Lugia is one of the most powerful and hard-to-find Pokémon that players can catch in the video games – so its only fitting that its Pokémon card is also extremely rare.
The Neo Genesis 1st Edition Holo Lugia #9 Pokémon card is described by auction house PWCC as one of the most difficult Pokémon cards to grade, as the result of a number of errors and misprints that were included in the early runs of the Neo Genesis set for the Pokémon TCG. Later print runs were corrected, but many of the cards from the expansion remain more common in their earlier uncorrected forms.
As of May 2021, PWCC claims that only 41 Gem Mint 10 condition Neo Genesis 1st Edition Holo Lugia #9 cards have ever been graded by PSA, with just three earning the maximum BGS 10 Pristine rating from grading company Beckett Grading Services. The Lugias rarity means that it ranks almost as highly as the legendary first-edition Charizard when it comes to the most valuable Pokémon cards.
Japanese Promo Pikachu Illustrator
Sold in February, 2021 for $375,000
During the late 1990s, CoroCoro Comic, a Japanese manga magazine, held a series of illustration contests in which entrants submitted their own unique Pokémon designs and attacks.
Little did they know then that these contests would give rise to one of the rarest and most valuable of all Pokémon cards: the Pikachu Illustrator.
Not only did contest winners receive multiple copies of a card that featured their very own winning design, which was exciting in its own right, each of them also received a copy of the Pikachu Illustrator card as an additional prize.
On the card front, contestants received a special message:
“We certify that your illustration is an excellent entry in the Pokémon Card Game Illust Contest. Therefore, we state that you are an Officially Authorized Pokémon Card Illustrator and admire your skill.”
Just 39 copies were distributed to the contest winners, but anyone is welcome to guess how many still survive today.
Considering this example graded PSA 7 sold for $375,000, it’s highly likely we’d see a price tag north of $1 million for the one example in the hobby graded PSA 10.

Most Valuable Pokemon Card In The World
Opinions may differ but the most expensive Pokemon card in the world as of June 2021 in our opinion is the 1999 Base First Edition Chaziard Holo #4 Logan Paul Pokemon Card with a BGS 10 Pristine grade.
Please note although this card may be worth more than a million dollars, the most expensive SOLD to date is the Pikachu Illustrator Extremely sold for $900,000 in February 2022.
The card was purchase by Paul in December of 2020 and was recently worn in his fight with Floyd Money Mayweather. He claims the card is worth 1 million dollars and we think he is actually pretty close.

Psa 10 Base Set Holo Shadowless Charizard: $420000
There are a lot of factors that make this card worth so much compared to any other Charizard card. Specifically, the lack of a shadow means it isn’t just a first edition, it’s the first print run of the first edition. While most base set cards have a shadow on the right side of the art frame, the very first cards Wizards of the Coast printed lacked it, giving them an extra level of value.
Second, though shadowless Base Set Charizards are fairly common and number in the thousands, a PSA 10-graded one are incredibly rare. Only 56 have ever been identified by PSA.

Pokemon Japanese Hr Contest Winner Full Art Charizard

Despite the global health situation in 2020, Pokemon tournaments still took place at home and in shops throughout Japan.
From July to September 2020, contestants in the Charizard VMAX HR competition could participate in 16-player tournaments for a chance at winning two unique Charizard cards.
Winners of the first rounds consisting of four players each won the Full Art Charizard V shown here.
Those four players would then advance to the championship round for a shot at winning the Full Art Charizard VMAX HR competition card as the top prize.

Number : Espeon Gold Star 2005 Japanese Play Promo
Another popular Gold Star rarity, Espeon Gold Star is sought after by both English and Japanese collectors alike. While the Pop Series 5 English variant is also rare and expensive, the Japanese promo Espeon is in a league all its own.
Espeon Gold Star was only available to members of the Daisuke Pokémon Fan Club. Subscribers could earn EXP points during the clubs 2005-2006 tournament series by participating in official local events, hosting events, contributing to the clubs newsletter, and more.
Unfortunately, the Espeon Gold Star card required 40,000 EXP points. Considering subscribers only started with 1000 points for subscribing and got a minuscule average of 50-100 points for event participation, the coveted Eeveelution promo was extremely hard to obtain. The sheer difficulty of this cards acquisition meant that there are now very few officially distributed copies in circulation, making them exceptionally rare and incredibly desirable by fans and collectors alike.
Collectors searching for an ungraded copy of this card can expect to pay around $18,000. A graded copy of this card has sold for as much as $25,700 in auction.

Blastoise Commissioned Presentation 009/165r Galaxy Star Holo

As it stands, the third most expensive Pokemon card is a Blastoise presentation card, first released in 1999. With just two copies in existence, it is perhaps the rarest of Pokemon trading cards.
These ultra-rare Blastoise cards were produced by Wizards of the Coast, the original publisher of the Pokemon TCG game in the United States.
The idea was to design and create a presentation card to persuade Nintendo executives to start marketing Pokemon trading cards in the United States and other international markets. The design work for the card was done by Ken Sugimori, the legendary artist and designer for the Pokemon company.
After their initial display, both the cards were not seen in public for years until one of them appeared in an auction in 2021. Whats more surprising is that the card is in mint condition, making it even more valuable. It was sold for a hefty $360,000.
The whereabouts of the other Blastoise Commissioned Presentation card remain unknown.
On the day of the Blastoise card sale, a booster box of the first-edition Pokemon card was also auctioned off. The booster box contained 396 total cards, with the original 102 cards from the first TCG expansion set. It was sold for $408,000.

Gold Star Pop Series 5 Umbreon: $27000
The Japanese version of the Shining Umbreon Pokemon card is pretty highly desired, with its unique coloring and gorgeous frame-piercing artwork making it fittingly beautiful as one of the first shiny Pokemon to appear on a card.
However, its price is so high because of much more than just its looks and popularity. The Shining Umbreon card only saw a very limited release through the Japanese Pokemon Players’ Club for hitting the maximum number of experience points through attending organised play events between 2005 and 2006, making it one of the rarest cards out there. In 2020, PWCC Auctions sold a PSA-10 copy of it for $20,000, showing just how in-demand it is. Notably, this card was reprinted for the first time ever in 2021, as part of the 25th Anniversary Celebrations set. Though that version is worth way, way less, it’s still the third most valuable card in the expansion.
Gold Star Umbreon Play Promo
Released in Japan in 2005, the Gold Star Umbreon Pokemon Play promo features some truly stunning artwork. This, combined with the card’s rarity, led to a copy being sold for $78,000 in December of 2021. The card in question beat the previous record holder by a cool $8,000 thanks to its coveted PSA GEM-MT 10 rating.
In order to get their hands on a copy of the card at the time of its release, collectors would need to be a member of the Pokemon Player’s Club and then accumulate 70,000 EXP points before the end of the fourth season. Considering players only received 100 points for attending official events, not too many of these were ever handed out as evidenced by there being just 24 graded by the PSA to date.

Sporting boxing gloves, shoulder pads and extreme quickness, Hitmonchan exhibits every bit of the appearance of the fighting-type Pokémon that he is.

Pokemon Japanese Promo Wonder Platinum Trophy Card

Held at the Prince Park Tower Tokyo on May 4, 2009, the final round of the 2009 Japan World Championship pitted finalists against each other in fierce competition.
Each of the twenty finalists across three different age divisions received one of these Wonder Platinum cards, so one can assume that only twenty of these cards made their way into collectors’ hands.
How many still exist today is unknown, but finding one graded in a BGS 9.5 holder is incredibly rare.
What is known is that this trainer card is one of the most highly coveted DPt-P promotional cards, and its imagery makes for an incredibly well-designed card.
