What Are Research Tasks
A brand new feature to Pokémon Legends: Arceus are research tasks. These are essentially little objectives you need to complete for each Pokémon in the Pokédex to fully complete their entry. Every single Pokémon in the game has its own list of tasks, though many will repeat, such as capturing a certain number of them, observing them using a move a number of times, evolving them, and more. Research tasks can also have multiple levels. This allows you to level up that Pokémons research level by repeating a task multiple times. Some research tasks even require you to complete Requests related to that Pokémon.
To view any Pokémons research tasks, simply open up your Pokédex and find the Pokémon you want to view the tasks for. Once there, press down on the D-pad to flip to the tab showing the list of tasks, as well as how much progress youve made toward completing them. The bottom of the page shows the current research level for that Pokémon. They will all start at 0, and while they can level up higher than 10, 10 is the highest level you need to reach to count their entry in the Pokédex as complete.
How Research Ranks And Star Ranks Work
Every research task you complete, and thus the more research ranks you go through, will all earn you points towards your Star Rank. You can see your current amount of research points, current Star Rank, and how many more points you need to get to the next rank on the cover of your Pokédex. Your Star Rank is your main way to track your progress through Pokémon Legends: Arceus, with each rank unlocking new items, access to new areas, and the ability to catch higher-level Pokémon. Once you have enough research points to get a new Star Rank, you need to talk to Captain Cyllene in the Galaxy Hall to officially rank up.
There are 10 total Star Ranks you will progress through in the game, and each one has its own rewards, but also will require more total research points to unlock. Heres a quick breakdown of each Star Rank:
Whats With The Green Boxes
Sometimes you may see boxes with a pale green background. You can see in Pikachus Research Tasks below that I have defeated a Pikachu once and seen it use Thunder Shock twice, therefore reaching the first total in that row that counts towards completion. So why no checkmarks? It has not been caught yet. You must catch a Pokémon in order to gain Research Levels and have the Prof. check off those boxes.
But wait! Ive caught a Pokémon and am still seeing green boxes! This means that you have not yet turned in your research to the Prof. Those boxes will get checked when he views your Pokédex progress!

‘pokmon Legends: Arceus’ Full Pokdex: All Nintendo Switch Game’s Characters Confirmed
Pokémon Legends: Arceus has an enormous Pokédex for you to fill out, although it’s not quite the largest one in the franchise’s history.
Essentially a prequel, the open-world game is set in a bygone era before Pokémon and humans had learned to live in peaceful harmony. You play as an intrepid adventurer who has been sent on an expedition to study the hitherto uncharted region of Hisui and uncover its hidden secrets.
Completing this endeavor will require you to become familiar with the diverse flora and fauna of Hisui. You will need to research the area’s plant life, survey its wild terrain, learn to craft materials and invent new gear by harvesting its resources.
Of course, your main task will be to compile an exhaustive Pokédex that lists every living creature that can be found roaming this newly-discovered land. Think of it like you’re cataloguing the wilderness.
As seasoned veterans of Nintendo’s franchise will know, the only way to add entries into your bestiary is to capture the relevant Pokémon. In the case of Legends: Arceus, your method for doing this will be slightly different, as you won’t be solely reliant on defeating pocket monsters in combat. Instead, you’ll need to use your wits to sneak up on them, lure them into traps and even tame them with an offering of their favorite foods.

Every Hisui Pokdex Entry In Pokmon Legends: Arceus
- Pikachu – Possesses cheek sacs in which it stores electricity. This clever forest-dweller roasts tough berries with an electric shock before consuming them.
- Raichu – It can discharge bursts of electricity exceeding 100,000 volts a single strike with that amount of power would incapacitate one of the Copperajah of my homeland.
- Abra – Spends 18 hours of the day sleeping. Even while asleep, Abra can control its psychic powersshould danger approach, the Pokémon will simply teleport away.
- Kadabra – There are rumors that a child with mystical powers became a Kadabra however, this remains unverified. I suspect that the spoon Kadabra holds enhances its brain waves.
- Alakazam – The longer Alakazam lives, the larger and heavier its head becomes. Our tests have shown that the strength of its psychic powers correlates positively to the weight of its head.
- Chimchar – Full of vigor and always in high spirits. It was once known by the name Lantern-Tail and feared as some kind of apparition.
- Monferno – The deeper the blue on its face, the more powerful it will grow to become. It leaps about every which way and lands powerful blows against its opponents with the flame on its tail.
- Infernape – A tall, hardy Pokémon with a dazzling appearance. It shrouds itself in flame and battles as if engaged in dance -truly a sight to behold.

How Is A Pokmons Research Level Calculated In The Pokdex
This can be confusing initially, as there are a lot of numbers and they probably dont add up to the Research Level youre seeing. But heres a really simple way to understand it:
- Research Level is essentially the number of checkmarks you have
- Check marks in rows that are marked with the red box containing two arrows are counted as two points per checkmark
You may be tempted to simply add the numbers that are first displayed in front of each rows progress, but these are not important for calculating the Research Level. They simply track your progress towards each rows goal.

Completing All 242 Pokdex Entries
Once players complete all 242 entries in the Hisui Pokédex of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, theyll receive the Shiny Charm as a reward for all of their hard work. This special charm equips automatically and significantly raises the players chance of encountering a Shiny Pokémon in the wild, but players will have to reach Research Level 10 for every entry before claiming their prize. One of the quickest ways to increase a Pokémons Research Level is by using specific moves in battle, and players can often complete multiple Research Tasks simultaneously by performing these moves in Strong Style or Agile Style. However, the exact requirements for reaching Research Level 10 varies for each Pokémon, so trainers should be sure to double-check their Pokédex before battling to get these tasks done fast.
Its worth noting, however, that the Mythical Pokémon Darkrai and Shaymin do not have to be caught to complete the Pokédex in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Both Darkrai and Shaymin are only available as save data bonuses for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl and Pokémon Sword & Shield respectively, so players will need to have played these games on their Switch console before they can catch the last two Pokémon in the Pokédex. Manaphy and Phione are also not required since they only appear as part of an optional Request, so trainers will be able to save these Mythical Pokémon for the postgame if they want to complete their Pokédex and catch Arceus as quickly as possible.
