How Mega Evolutions Work In Pokmon Go

How To Get All Mega Stones – Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! & Eevee

Mega Evolutions are an additional, more powerful evolution that certain Pokémon – such as the original Kanto starters – can undertake.

To Mega Evolve a Pokémon in Pokémon Go, you need a resource named Mega Energy. Once a Pokémon has been Mega Evolved, it will stay in that form for a limited amount of time and can be used in a variety of battles.

You will be able to see how much time your Mega Evolution has remaining on its CP screen.

Once it has returned to its normal form, the Mega Energy you need to Mega Evolve it again later will be decreased.

This amount was further decreased on Thursday, 3rd September as Niantic performed a number of adjustments to the Mega Evolution system.

Other things you should know about Mega Evolutions:

  • You can only Mega Evolve one Pokémon at a time. If you Mega Evolve a second Pokémon, the other one will return back to normal.
  • Shadow Pokémon cannot undergo a Mega Evolution.
  • Clone Pokémon cannot undergo a Mega Evolution.
  • Mega Evolutions will be listed in your Pokédex under the ‘Mega Pokédex’. So that’s another thing to collect!
  • There will be two new Medals added to the game – one for collecting Unique Mega Evolutions, the other for total Mega Evolutions.

Blastoinite Venusaurite And Charizardite X & Y

All four of these stones can be obtained from Blue after beating the Cinnabar Island gym prior to challenging the Viridian City gym.

You must return to pallet town through the storyline to receive the key items you need to mega evolve, and in doing that, you will also receive Blastoinite, Venusaurite, and Charizardite X & Y, all the items you would need for the original Kanto starters.

How And Where To Find The Key Stone In Pokmon Sun And Moon

Finally, youll need to get your hands on the Mega Ring and its Key Stone before you can use any Mega Stones at all regardless of whether you imported them from Pokémon Bank or not. Below are their locations:

  • Key Stone for defeating Dexio on Ancient Poni Path, after defeating the Elite Four.

Once the Elite Fours been taken down, head back over to Ancient Poni Path, where youll be stopped out of the blue by Dexio. He battles you on the spot, with a fairly strong Psychic-based team, before awarding you both the Key Stone and Alakazite for your victory. From then on, if you have the relevant Mega Stone, you can finally Mega Evolve your Pokémon in battle.

Well update this page as the Mega Stones become more available, but for now we recommend making sure youve acquired every Z Crystal too, and get started on grinding those Battle Royals and Battle Tree for Battle Points!

How To Mega Evolve Your Pokmon In Pokmon Go

You can only have one Mega Pokémon at a time. If you Mega Evolve a different one, your first Pokémon will revert back to normal and youll need to collect Mega Energy to evolve it again.

Using a Mega Pokémon in a raid gives other Pokémon an attack boost, with an additional attack boost given to Pokémon of the same type. These boosts do not stack.

Your Pokémon will only be Mega Evolved for a time period, which you can check on the information screen for that Pokémon. Once it returns to normal, it will be significantly cheaper to Mega Evolve it again.

Already, these limitations are causing some discontent in the community: because raids are the primary way that you get Mega Energy, it becomes massively expensive to keep a Mega Pokemon in your team for any appreciable length of time, and thats if you can even find and complete enough Raids to stockpile energy.

Limitations: Youll be using these things in Raids, where theyll give an attack boost to all other Pokémon and a bigger boost to Pokémon with the same attack types. You can also use them against Team Rocket and regular PvP, but they cant defend gyms or enter the Go Battle League. Niantic suggests that they could come to GBL eventually, but right now the paywall associated with them would be a huge problem when it comes to balancing.

Special Research: Theres some Special Research live right now to introduce you to the whole concept, through Beedrill. Heres the steps, and Ill update once we get the rest:

Step 1:

  • Send 3 Gifts to Friends: 10 Pokéballs
  • Earn a Candy walking with your buddy: 10 potions

Step 2:

  • Power up Pokémon five times: 20 Weedle Candy

  • Step 2 rewards: 100 Mega Beedrill Energy, Charged TM, 5,000 XP

Step 3:

While Pokemon: Lets Go, Pikachu and Eevee are remakes of the original Gameboy games, one of the new things that both games retain from the previous games is that certain Pokemon can do Mega Evolutions.

Mega Evolutions in Lets Go, Pikachu and Eevee are somewhat different compared to the ones in recent Pokemon games. Instead of having the Pokemon hold the stone that allow them to turn into their Mega Evolution form, players will no longer need to do that. Simply get the stone and when you are in a battle, there will be an extra option that you can select to perform skills exclusive to their Mega Evolution form.

In Pokemon Lets Go, Pikachu and Eevee, there are roughly fifteen Pokemon that can turn and use their Mega Evolution skills. Before they do, you must get their stones from specific trainers.

Luckily, we got you covered as we managed to track down all Mega Evolution Stones:

How To Get Mega Stones In Pokemon Go

How to Get All the Mega Stones in Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee (Mega Stone Locations)

How to Get Mega Stones in Pokemon GO is a question that most trainers ask, but will never find the answer to.

The sole reason for this is the way Niantic designed the system of mega evolution in Pokemon GO.

Established in Pokemon lore in the X and Y games, Mega Evolution is a system in which certain Pokemon can gain incredible time-limited power by reaching a special evolutionary stage.

All Pokmon Lets Go Mega Stone Locations

Mega Evolution makes a return in Pokémon Lets Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon Lets Go, Eevee! where select Pokémon can use a Mega Stone to unleash the power hidden within them.

The Mega Evolution mechanic was first introduced Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, and requires that two conditions are met before Mega Evolution can occur. First, Trainers must wear a special item called a Key Stone, while, secondly, their Pokémon must hold a specific Mega Stone for their species.

With only Pokémon that were originally discovered in the Kanto region appearing in Pokémon Lets Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon Lets Go, Eevee!, there are fewer Mega Stones to collect. And, while Blue will hand you the Key Stone in Pallet Town after you have beaten the Cinnabar Island Gym, you will buy most of the Mega Stones from a guy in Indigo Plateau for 30,000 Pokémon Dollars each.

And, once retrieved, its worth remembering that Mega Evolution can only be triggered once per battle, making it an important tactical decision as to choosing which Pokémon is powered up.
