Thanks to Pokémon Home and some crazy, convoluted trading mechanics, trainers can finally get Meltan and Melmetal in Pokémon Sword and Shieldbut itll require you to own another Pokémon game in the series.

Since Pokémon Go transfers arent available to Pokémon Home at time of writing, youll need to go through a long drawn-out process using the Lets Go games to add these creatures to your teams.

First, you need to have captured a Meltan or Melmetal in Pokémon Go through the weird mystery box feature of the game and transferred either Pokémon to Pokémon: Lets Go, Pikachu! or Lets Go, Eevee! on your Nintendo Switch.

Next, after opening Pokémon Home, you need to transfer that Meltan from the Lets Go games into a Home box. Then, transfer it from Pokémon Home to Sword and Shield, where youll finally be able to use it.

Meltan and Melmetal will only receive their abilities after being transferred to Sword and Shield, so you wont know its stats until then. You also cant transfer it back to Lets Go after doing this process.

Evolving Meltan Into Melmetal

There are quite a few specifics to keep in mind, due to all the technicalities that come into play with transferring Pokémon and the Mystery Boxs new mechanics, too! Heres everything you should bear in mind about each.

How the Mystery Box works in Pokémon Go

• You only get one Mystery Box once youve transferred a Pokémon from Go to Lets Go for the first time, itll stay in your inventory permanently.
• The Mystery Box only opens once per week once you press Open, you have to wait a full seven days to open it again.
• You need to transfer a Pokémon from Go to Lets Go every time you want to open it so once that seven-day timer runs down, transfer another Pokémon. Its not clear yet whether you have to wait until the counter runs down and then transfer a Pokémon, or if you can stack them in advance, so to speak. We assume youll need to wait!
• The Mystery Box only affects you in Pokémon Go it basically functions like a special type of Incense, not like a Lure. Meltan only appear for you, not those who happen to be around you at the time.
• You can link as many Pokémon Go accounts as you like to a copy of Lets Go so one copy of Lets Go can be a source of Mystery Boxes for an infinite number of different Pokémon Go accounts. We knew you could have multiple, but its good to confirm theres no limit! It also, of course, means it doesnt have to be your copy of Lets Go. You just need to have permission to link it with someones.

Meltan Can Evolve And It’s Huge

The recent legendary Pokemon to join the massive roster was Meltan. A small bolt-like Pokemon with a metallic body. However, it seems that the small Pokemon goes through a massive growth spurt during its evolution, becoming Melmetal.

The large Pokemon weights 1,763.7 and is 2.5 meters tall. It’s a steel Pokemon that can create metal at will and was worshipped for this talent. Its unique attack is called Iron Bash which can attack an opponent twice.

You can evolve Meltan into Melmetal for 400 candies, which are earned by catching Meltan through Mystery Box and sending him to Professor Willow or walking around as a buddy.

The Mystery Box Holds The Key To Catching Meltan

How To Find Shiny Meltan In Pokemon Go

Shiny Meltan will begin to appear in the game from Tuesday, July 6th to July 15th. This is the window where the game is celebrating its 5th anniversary. Meltan will appear if players have access to the Mystery Box item. To obtain it, players will need to send a Pokemon from Pokemon Go to either Pokemon Lets Go Pikachu, Lets Go Eevee, or Pokemon Home. This item will exclusively spawn Meltan on the map for an hour. Once the hour is over, players will have to wait 3 days to send another Pokemon to one of these other games to use the box again.

The best way to increase the chances of finding a Shiny Meltan is to use the Mystery Box and focus solely on capturing Meltan. Its completely up to chance if it will make an appearance. Players will still need 400 candy in order to evolve it into Melmetal so capture as many of these as possible. Its Shiny form will be taken away again once the anniversary celebration is over on the 15th. Dont miss out on the chance to capture it. Its unknown when it will return again.

Now, players have an additional means of catching Meltan. You can earn a Mystery Box that can open once per week by linking your Pokémon Go and Pokémon HOME accounts. The Mystery Box will act like an Incense but specifically for Meltan, luring dozens of the tiny Hex Nut Pokémon to your location for one hour. It takes time to recharge, but once the timer has run out, you can transfer another Pokémon to HOME and earn yourself another hour of Meltan spawns. If you happen to use your Mystery Box during certain events you can even catch yourself a Shiny Meltan!

Meltan and Melmetal can finally be added to Pokemon Sword and Shield today thanks to Pokémon Home, even if the method to get the Pokémon into the game is tedious.

Meltan is easy to obtain in Pokémon Go, but trainers are looking for easy ways to get it to evolve to Melmetal. Theres no method to evolve the Pokémon on Nintendo Switch similar to Lets Go, but there is a way to get Melmetal.

Lets Go Meltan Special Research

The Pokémon Go Meltan quest is the primary way to obtain the Pokémon for those who dont own a Nintendo Switch. The quest, “Lets Go, Meltan,” is available to all players, and is found under the Special tab in the Research menu.

To open the Research menu, tap the binoculars icon from the main game screen.

There are nine phases in total to complete the Lets Go, Meltan Special Research quest, with each phase having three tasks that must be completed before proceeding.

• Catch 5 Exeggcute
• Battle in 10 Raids

Hopefully players have saved up enough candies to evolve a Magnemite before this. As for catching Exeggcute, this should happen as players walk around because the creature isnt all that uncommon. Finally, trainers dont necessarily have to win the raids they take part in, so they are free to jump in and then jump out with their daily raid pass to complete this challenge. Finishing off this quest will net them a Silver Pinap Berry, a Metal Coat, and 10 Ultra Balls.
