Sadly, there is no official list for which Pokémon are most likely to be Ditto out in the wild. Ditto can supposedly be disguised as any Pokémon. That said, there is quite a bit of unofficial speculation within the community, as most are convinced that certain Pokémon are more likely than others to be Ditto.
Though there was a special list of Pokémon that most frequently turned into Ditto earlier this month for April Fools, this has ended. The list has gone back to the typical Pokémon youre most likely to see transform into a Ditto, which includes:
- Bidoof
- Zigzagoon
- Zubat
Also note that if you come across a Shiny Pokémon, it is impossible for it to be a Ditto.

Tip #: Ask Your Friends / Local Discord Group Where They Caught A Ditto
Okay, so this requires a bit more coordination, but if you have friends or are part of a community that plays Pokémon Go, you can ask them where they recently caught a Ditto.
Like all the rest of the Pokémon in the game, a Ditto spawn is the same for everyone. Which means that if your friend just caught a Ditto two blocks over that was hiding as a Bidoof, you can go catch the same Bidoof and it will also be a Ditto. Joining an active Discord server, which can be found by simply Google searching, will help you find a Ditto in no time, so long as youre relatively nearby to the members of the community. Using the same principle above, most Discord chats are dedicated to Ditto locations, so its definitely worth joining one if you can.
If thats not your bag then your only option is to go it alone and set off on a noble Ditto-catching quest. Just remember, the key to catching a Ditto is patience. Ultimately, the best and only way to catch a Ditto is by going out and catching any of the Pokémon it can transform into.
Youre relying on getting lucky with the RNG here, but since theres only a few Pokémon which Ditto can actually be hiding as, you will eventually catch one if you go out and just catch every single one you come across. It might take some time, or it might take you a matter of minutes, but you will get one eventually.

At the start of 2021, Pokemon Go developers added a trading feature to the game. Now, players can exchange their Pokemon with friends, but each monster can only be traded once. If you have no luck in catching a Ditto but your friend has multiple, you can trade one of your Pokemon to Ditto. Heres how to do that:

How To Catch Ditto
Ditto is the transforming Pokémon that poses as other Pokémon. Players often run into a Ditto after catching a specific Pokémon. Once captured, Ditto will revert back into its globby self and register in the players Pokédex.
Each month, Niantic chooses the specific Pokémon that Ditto will masquerade as. Currently, players searching for this cute little transformer can start by searching for these specific Pokémon:
- Ghastly
- Surskit
- Lillipup
These are the current disguises for Ditto during the month of June and will change once July comes around.

The only method you can use to catch a Ditto is to go after the Pokémon Ditto copies. Remember that these Pokémon wont look any different on your map, so youll just have to catch every one you see until you get your Ditto.
Note: This list of Pokémon which can be Dittos changes all the time it used to include Paras in February, but this is no longer the case as of March 2021, but other than Paras everything has remained the same.

How do you know one of these Pokémon is a Ditto? After you catch one, instead of saying Catch the word Oh? will pop up above the Pokémons head, and Ditto will reveal itself. This wont happen until after the Pokémon is caught, however, so make sure you actually catch the Pokémon and dont give up early.
If you think that a little Hoothoot is taking a long time to capture and, for example, keeps breaking out of the Pokéball, chances are that this will be a Ditto as they are much more stubborn to catch. At least, this was the case for us when we caught a Ditto disguised as a Hoppip last month.
Catching a Ditto will take a great deal of time and patience because theres no surefire way to tell which one is a Ditto, so be prepared for a long slog. However, there is a good strategy you can use here to help make the task go a bit quicker, which brings us to our next tip

How Does Shiny Ditto Work In Pokmon Go
With the release of shiny Ditto into the wild for the first time in Pokémon GO, there is a fair bit of confusion about how it is going to work. With some clarification from Niantic, we are happy to share how.
Ditto transforms from a set pool of Pokémon that appear in the wild. The pool has been regularly updated and amended, and the current pool is featured in the graphic below.
Ditto can now come from a variety of Pokémon that have their shiny forms available, including Gastly, Drowzee, Teddiursa and Dwebble. This is brand new, and has led to a new mechanism with the Ditto transformations.
- If you encounter a shiny of any of Dittos current potential disguises, it cannot transform into Ditto.
- If you encounter any of these Pokémon in their non-shiny form, it can potentially transform into Ditto.
- If you encounter any of these Pokémon in their non-shiny form, it can potentially transform into a shiny Ditto.
You do not have to worry that you are going to finally get that shiny Dwebble you have been hunting for, only for it to turn into a shiny Ditto. Wild shiny Pokémon cannot transform into Ditto.

There are some aspects to consider when trying to catch Smeargle in Pokemon Go:
- If Smeargle is going to appear, it will be in the first photo you take each time you open the camera, so you dont need to spam the photo button multiple times.
- You can only catch one Smeargle per day this resets at midnight local time, not 24 hours after catching the last Smeargle
- The Pokemon you take a photo of doesnt influence the chance of Smeargle appearing
- We dont know the exact chance of Smeargle showing up, so simply rinse and repeat the above steps until it does
- Smeargles moveset will be copied from the Pokemon in the photo, so consider using stronger Pokemon if you want to use Smeargle in battle
- Smeargle cannot copy Transform from Ditto, nor can it learn two Charged moves
- Catching Smeargle contributes to the Cameraman badge
- Smeargle will stay in the wild for an hour before disappearing
- Smeargle can appear in a photo of another Smeargle
- Smeargle can run away from you, so throw some Razz Berries if its your first one
