The Pokemon Sword and Shield Shiny Charm is a simple concept once you have it in your bag, the chance of each encounter being a shiny Pokemon is increased. Question is, how do you get the Shiny Charm? You’re going to want it before you even start shiny hunting, and it’s not easy.

To get the Shiny Charm, your first goal is to… complete the Pokemon Sword and Shield Pokedex. Yep, you need to catch every single one of the 400 Pokemon in the game. You’ll need to do some trading to make it happen thanks to the various Pokemon Sword and Shield differences, but it needs to happen before you can get your hands on the Shiny Charm.

Once your Galar Pokedex is at 400/400, head to Circhester. Enter the west door of Hotel Ionia, go up the elevator, then enter the room on the far left. You should’ve spoken to the Director once before now in order to get the Catching Charm, but now you’ve completed the Pokedex, he’ll reward you with the Shiny Charm. Result.

The final method for finding a Shiny Legendary in Pokémon Sword and Shields Crown Tundra DLC is the one youll likely spend the most time on, and can be one of the most efficient Shiny Hunting methods the game has ever given us.

When you run through a Max Lair, its important to remember that the Pokémon you encounter and catch will not appear to be shiny until the adventure is over and the game lets you pick one to keep. At the end of the Max Lair youll be allowed to choose one Pokémon to keep.

If you had a successful run, captured three normal Pokémon throughout and captured the Legendary Pokémon, youll have four to choose from. This is a key moment, because youll need to look closely to see if any of the ones you caught are in their Shiny Form.

This is fairly obvious for some Pokémon, but more difficult to discern with the naked eye for others. To be sure, you can check the summary of the Pokémon and look for the red stars on the left that indicate it is a Shiny Pokémon.

Your odds are pretty good when doing a Max Lair, as youll have a 1 in 100 chance of each Pokémon you catch being in its Shiny Form. That gives you a decent 1% chance of catching a Shiny Legendary, and three more chances with the same odds of catching a regular Shiny Pokémon.

Make sure you keep something else that was caught, or nothing, so that youll have the chance to go after it again. After the Max Lair is over, youll be given the option to jot down where to find that Pokémon for next time.

Shiny Legendary Pokmon Not Found In Max Lair

• Shiny Legendary Pokémon outside of Max Lair: Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Regieleki, Regidrago, Regigigas, Cobalion, Virizion, Terrakion

There are only nine Shiny Legendary Pokémon that can be encountered in Crown Tundra that wont be found in a Max Lair. Eight of them are found via traditional static encounters, which means youll trigger a regular battle where youll need to weaken the Pokémon and then throw your Poké Ball of choice.

The exception to this rule is Regigigas, which Ill get to in a moment. For Cobalion, Virizion, and Terrakion, youll need to encounter them on the overworld. As soon as the encounter begins, youll see if its a Shiny Legendary. If the Pokémon youve found is not in its Shiny Form, simply run away from it.

While there was an initial belief that fainting it would increase the odds of finding it in a subsequent encounter, those factors dont affect Legendary Pokémon, so youre better off just running away to save time. The quickest way to restart the encounter is to open up your menu and set up camp.

In the exact spot the encounter happened, go into your Pokémon Camp. Once you exit out of it, the Pokémon will respawn, and may be a Shiny Legendary that time. You can follow our guide if you need help locating the Legendary Tracks to get these Pokémon to spawn.

How To Catch Shiny Pokmon In Sword And Shield: Shiny Pokmon Vs Super Shiny Pokmon

Several players have reported that they’ve found a brand new variant of shiny Pokémon. To be more precise, two different types of shiny Pokémon appear in Sword and Shield. One of them is much rarer than the other and has been dubbed “super shiny” by the internet. Regular shiny Pokémon pop out with stars glittering around them, whereas super shiny Pokémon appear with squares, as seen in the picture above.

Shiny Pokémon rarity has been split! Same 1:4096 odds to obtain a shiny, but there are two types of shiny. 15/16 show stars, 1/16 show squares. Square rarity is 1 in 65536!Basically, if your Trainer ID cleanly matches the PID , it will be squares rather than stars.

The last ten wont appear until youve completed the Legendary Adventures with Peony. That means youll need to have caught the Regis, the Legendary Bird Trio, and Calyrex and the chosen counterpart of Spectrier or Glastrier.

Only after completing all of those will the Ultra Beasts appear in the Max Lair, which is triggered by a final clue that Peony drops after completing the other adventures. Youll then be able to talk to him in the Max Lair.

Eternatus Zacian & Zamazenta

While these three legendary Pokémon are obtained in very separate areas, they’re are worth putting together for their identical shiny-locks. These are part of an extremely common trend in the past several Pokémon games, in that most legendaries are very rarely shiny unless theyre a part of an event, such as the games regular Mystery Gifts.

Since they cant breed, this also means that theres currently no way to obtain a shiny version of Eternatus, Zacian, or Zamazenta. Some players have found shiny versions in the games code, meaning they could potentially appear in the future, but its currently impossible to get them in alternate colors through any official methods.

Getting The Shiny Charm

If you’re adamant about getting shiny Pokémon, then you’ll want to get the Shiny Charm. This is a reward you receive for completing the Galar region Pokédex. To do that, you’ll need to trade Pokémon with friends or people online to get the version exclusive Pokémon not found in your game.

Once you have all 400 Pokémon, travel to Circhester and go to the first hotel you see in the city. You’ll need to take the elevator to the top floor and then head to the room that’s farthest on the left of the building. Enter the room and talk to the doctor in the back. He’ll give you the Shiny Charm, which will increase your chances of coming upon a shiny Pokémon to 1/1365.33. When combined with all of the other catching methods, your odds go up to 1/458.

If you’re close to getting the Shiny Charm before playing through the Isle of Armor or Crown Tundra DLC, it’s probably worth finishing up your Pokédex quickly. You’ll run into plenty of wild Pokémon during the DLC, and as you explore the new areas, so it’s a great time to run into an accidental shiny. Having a Shiny Charm will make your chances even better.

Fans of shiny Pokémon will be happy to hear that shiny versions of the legendary Pokémon duo that premiered in Pokémon Sword and Shield are being distributed in the United States via a serial code. To get your code, head to a participating GameStop near you, ask for a code, and later redeem it via the Mystery Gift menu in your copy of Pokémon Sword and Shield while connected to the internet. Shiny Zacian is being distributed starting today until November 11, while Shiny Zamazenta heads to GameStop starting on November 12 to November 26, 2021.

What Are Shiny Locked Pokmon

Shiny Locked Pokémon are Pokémon that under no circumstances can ever be a shiny in the Crown Tundra. These specific Pokémon will only be available in shinies from special events or the like, that is all. It is pointless trying to farm these Pokémon for the hope of getting a shiny variant because, at this moment, it’s impossible.

Normally, if you have time and persistence, you can manage to acquire a shiny of a large majority of Pokémon, but there are some that you will never find, no matter how hard you try.

With the new Dynamax Adventures mode acquiring shinies has become an awful lot easier, as the odds have been dramatically reduced. However, some of these Pokémon are not apart of Dynamax Adventures and can only be captured as part of the Crown Tundra story. The Crown Tundra Legendary Debuts: Calyrex And Glastrier Or Spectrier

The three brand-new legendaries introduced in The Crown Tundra are Calyrex, Spectrier, and Glastrier, though players cannot obtain all three in one game. The player’s actions determine which steed can be captured alongside Calyrex, though unfortunately, all three are shiny locked.

• Spectrier can be obtained if the player plants a Shaderoot Carrot.
• Glastrier is obtainable from planting the Iceroot Carrot.

These carrots come from planting the Carrot Seeds in either the Snowslide Slope‘s crop plot or the Old Cemetery crop plot. Carrot Seeds can be traded in with an old man in Freezington for 8 pieces of Dynite Ore.

Once the player brings the carrot to the Crown Shrine, Calyrex will appear, fused with either Glastrier or Spectrier, depending on the carrot type.
