First edition cards tend to be worth more than other cards, so if you have some of those in your collection you might just be in luck.
For the most part, first edition cards are easy to spot as you will often see Edition 1 printed next to the bottom left corner of the cards art frame.
For example, take a look at a first-edition holographic Charizard that can get you, depending on the condition, anything from $2,000 USD to several hundreds of thousands of dollars.
While other editions still may get you around $100 USD on average, having a good condition 1st Edition card is always a good place to start if you are looking to sell cards from your collection.

Look At The Condition Of The Pokemon Card
Using the Pokemon card grading definitions we discussed above, try to gauge the condition of your card.
As long as the card has nothing more than some minor whiting around the edges in small areas when viewed from the back, then you should be safe to assume that the card is near mint or better.

This initial print run was printed, distributed, and sold out before Pokémania fully took root in the United States, making them extremely rare today, particularly in Near Mint condition. Find The Year Your Pokemon Card Was Made
Look at the bottom of the card and find the year it was printed. Thats the first key indicator when identifying your card.
For example, the Base Set Pokémon Cards have 4 different print runs while looking almost identical each time. Of those sets, the UK 4th Print Base Set identifies as 1999-2000, which is the key indicator to separate those cards from the rest.

First and foremost, we are going to tackle where to buy Pokemon cards in person at stores. This is still the preferred option for many card collectors, for various reasons, like the ability to browse and see the products in person, giving you the chance to size up all your options.
There is also the benefit of just walking out of your home, hopping in the car/public transportation/sidewalk, and showing up at the store a little while later, and then walking out with the goods that you found instantly. Walmart, however, may be an option, so your best option is to call your local store and see what their specific policies are. But there are other major retailers like Meijer, HEB, Costco, GameStop, and Sams Club that you could try as well if they are available in your area.
However, one of the most important places to buy Pokemon cards is your local gaming shop. You could head to your local card shop or tabletop gaming store. You will likely be able to purchase cards there still in person.
