Pokmon Can Now Follow You In The Overworld

How to get MORE Max Mushrooms! | Pokemon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass! | Isle of Armor

I was upset when I learned that Pokémon couldn’t follow you around in the original Sword and Shield games. This had been something that had been implemented in a few previous games including Pokémon Yellow and Pokémon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!

When I realized that the Isle of Armor finally made it possible for my favorite Pokémon to follow me around, I became ecstatic. I don’t know how many hours I’ve spent swapping out the first Pokémon in my party and taking pictures of my favorite Pokémon trailing behind me.

Many Pokémon from previous generations that weren’t in the core Gen 8 game are returning with the Expansion Pass. If one of your favorites didn’t feature in the Galar Pokédex, you might just be able to capture it in the Crown Tundra. While the full list of Pokémon isn’t confirmed, a data leak emerged earlier this year that lines up with the Pokémon we’ve seen in trailers and official materials. For now, we’re going to include all Pokémon from the data leak, but note that some of them might not actually appear in the Crown Tundra and that a few more Pokémon might sneak in. Legendary and mythical Pokémon, as well as Ultra Beasts, are listed separately below.

What Do I Need To Do To Travel To The Isle Of Armor

HOW TO GET ALL THREE LYCANROC FORMS! | Pokemon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass | Isle of Armor!

Once you’ve purchased your DLC Expansion Pass and your game has finished updating, you’re probably ready to head off to the Isle of Armor. Probably. See, if you’ve already beat the game, you’ll have no problem getting there. If you haven’t beat the game yet, you might still be able to travel to the Isle of Armor as long as you’ve made enough progress. You’ll need to be able to travel to Wedgehurst Station, and you’ll need to have access to the Wild Area. Once you’ve met these conditions, you’ll be allowed to make the trip to the new DLC area.

However, as soon as you do get to the Isle of Armor, you’ll be challenged by one of your new rivals: Avery if you’re playing Pokémon Shield or Klara if you’re playing Pokémon Sword. They only bring two Pokémon to battle, but their Pokémon are pretty strong! If you can’t beat level ~60 Pokémon, you should make a little more progress in the game before traveling to the Isle of Armor.

+ New And Familiar Pokmon Coming To The Galar Region Pokdex

Over 100 Pokémon including both new creatures and several Pokémon from previous games will make their way into the Galar Region Pokédex when the Crown Tundra expansion releases. A notable addition is that Galarian Slopoke will finally be able to evolve into Galarian Slowking, a Poison/Psychic-type.

That means you’ll be busy catching some old favorites as you explore this grand new locale. If this DLC operates the same way as the Isel of Armor, then these 100 plus new additions will only be catchable within the Crown Tundra and not within the main Galar Region map.

The Expansions Will Introduce Pokemon New And Old

Most excitingly of all, the expansion will introduce Pokemon old and new to the world of Pokemon Sword and Shield. Both of the new areas will feature Pokemon forms unique to that region, newly discovered legendary Pokemon, and add some familiar Pokemon from past generations. Yep, that’s right. Some Pokemon from past generations are on the way.

You can also try out a sneak peek demo of the beginning of the story for the Isle of Armor expansion as of today, January 9. Doing so will get you a Galarian Slowpoke, a new regional form that can also evolve into Galarian Slowbro using an item found in Isle of Armor or a Galarian Slowking using an item in the Crown Tundra. You can see the description for the new Slowpoke form below:

Galarian Slowpoke

Weight: 231.5 lbsAbility: Unseen Fist

Kubfu evolves into Urshifu after it has undergone “sufficient training.” Urshifu is a Fighting/ Dark type Pokemon, but it also has two different forms that have varying types – Single Strike and Rapid Strike Style forms. The Single Strike form favours battling without holding back, with more direct movements that often involve rushing forward in a straight line. The Rapid Strike form on the other hand maintain a calm demeanour and observe their opponents, with flowing movements to parry moves and rapidly strike as the name suggests. Both of the different forms also have Gigantamax forms.

There are also additional cosmetic options and clothing introduced in each expansion.

You can access a free sneak-peek at the expansion pass content in the base game by going to Wedgehurst Station and speaking to the new trainer there – Klara in Sword or Avery in Shield.

Pokmon Sword & Shield Expansion Pass Review Bottom Line

Pokémon Sword & Shield Expansion Pass

The Expansion Pass is a fun little splash of extra content that gives players more of the Galar region to enjoy. Key among these new experiences are the brand new storylines surrounding the Legendary Pokémon Kubfu and Calyrex. I also love having the ability to walk around the Isle of Armor or the Crown Tundra with my favorite Pokémon trailing behind me as I discover new places.

Considering how short the DLC storyline is, the $30 price tag is a bit costly. However, if you’re the kind of person that loves filling out a Pokédex and meeting new Pokémon then this will definitely be a fun way to expand upon that.
