Pokemon Lets Go Pikachu & Eevee are very different from the previous mainline games and those playing the game will be wondering why they didnt get it a few hours in.

The reason for this is that the game does not have a Bike, instead you now get to ride on Pokemon.

In Pokemon Yellow, the game Lets Go is based on, you would get a Bike in Cerulean City, but now theyve been replaced by a much superior mechanic in my opinion.

The game will give you the ability to ride different Pokemon as soon as under an hour in depending on your progress. Your first ride will most probably be in Vermillion City. There you can complete a short quest to get your first Pokemon Ride.

Talk to the man sitting in between the Pokemon Fan Club and the house next to it. Depending on your version of the game youll be asked a different task.

In Lets Go Pikachu youll have to catch 5 Growlithe, doing so will get you an Arcanine to ride. In Pokemon Lets Go Eevee youll have to catch 5 Meowth which you award you a Persian.

The ride function is really neat as you can ride both ground and air based Pokemon. Riding Charizard for example gives you a completely new perspective of your surroundings from up above.

Anyway, after youve beaten the Elite Four youll unlock a unique new feature for riding Pokemon. There are three Pokemon that this feature will affect: Aerodactyl, Charizard, and Dragonite.

As three of Lances Elite Four dragons , these Pokemon are fairly huge winged monsters. That being said, theyre more than capable of carrying their young trainer.

Although all three can fly close to the ground in the early game, after beating the Elite Four they can really take to the sky. Whenever you choose to ride these Pokemon, theyll fly above buildings and over caves. Also, the skies wont feature any trainer battles, but you can find some pretty powerful Flying-types up there. For example, using a lure while flying above Route 20 can allow you to encounter wild Charizards and Dragonites regularly.

Lets Go removes both random battles and fights with wild Pokémon. In its place is a catching minigame in which you toss Pokéball at a wild Pokémon. A ring appears around each Pokémon to note where to throw the ball. A second ring progressively shrinks on loop. Your goal is to land your Pokéball in the ring when its just big enough for a Pokéball to fit inside it. The better the timing, the higher the likelihood is that youll secure the wild Pokémon. Well the short answer is that you cant get a bike, despite the Bike Shop in Cerulean City. The owner of the shop wants one million dollars for his best bike . Do listen to him talk about all the bikes to receive five Heart Scales, though.

So theres no way of getting around quickly?

As you may remember from previous Pokémon games, you can ride certain Pokémon and thats how youll travel faster in Lets Go.

Its very unlikely that youll have caught a Pokémon large enough, like an Onix, to ride yet so head to Vermillion City and speak to the person sitting on the bench in between the Pokemon Fan Club and a house.

In Lets Go Pikachu theyll ask you to catch five Growlithe.

In Lets Go Eevee youll need to catch five Meowth.

Once you have, go back and speak to them again and youll be given an Arcanine or Persian for your efforts. They are both large enough to ride.

Now just make sure they are in your party and you select Take out of Poké ball so they travel alongside you. When theres enough room, you can mount and ride them.

Can You Buy Bike Pokemon

It can be bought for 1,000,000, or exchanged for a Bike Voucher. However, as only 999,999 can be obtained at any time, there is no way to buy a Bicycle without a Bike Voucher. The Pokémon Fan Club Chairman in Vermilion City will give out his Bike Voucher, making this the only viable way to get the item.

To put it plainly, the Pokemon Lets Go bike doesnt exist. Well, it does, but you cant buy one or ride one. The only ones in the game seem to be the ones in the bike shop in Cerulean City, and the owner isnt quite as nice as his original Gen 1 counterpart.

This affects the game in a pretty huge way. Cycling Road has been replaced with Pokemon Road, an area where trainers go to spend time with their Pokemon and engage in top quality battles. The trainers here all have Ace Trainer line-ups, usually choosing to use fully evolved forms of various types on their teams. Its an interesting place to go, and seemingly the only place in Lets Go in which you can farm berries, but there are no bikes, so its weird.

However, the absence of bikes affects the game in an unexpectedly interesting way, too. There are no bikes, but there are other travel options, per se.

Your primary source of income comes from battling trainers. You can make enough throughout the game to not have to worry much about running out of money to buy Pokéballs and health items. Specifically, if you come across someone who gives you a valuable trinket like a Big Pearl or Nugget, remember that location because you can go back again tomorrow to get another one.
