How To Fish In Pokemon Sword And Shield

If you’re wondering how to catch some fish in Pokemon Sword and Shield then you can rest easy. We’re definitely accomplished fishermen and fisherwomen here, and we’ll help hold your hand through the process of getting your very first, uh, Magikarp? Or something. There is a whole bunch of Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield that can be nabbed via fishing in various Wild Areas, and we’ve listed them out for you below:

  • Barboach
  • Shellder
  • Wishiwashi

So, you want to get your mitts on one of the above? We can make that happen. When you want to go fishing in the overworld in Pokemon Sword and Shield, you just have to look around various bodies of water for segments that look like little circles. These dark round patches are indicative of fishing spots. Think about how you’d identify them in games like Runescape, we suppose. Once you find a spot like that, it’s really as simple as biking or walking up to it. Once you’ve done that, you just have to press the A button. That will make sure that you drop your fishing rod into the body of water and commence fishing.

To catch the right fish for your squad, it’s as easy as waiting until the pool of water starts rippling. You’ll be able to feel this through your joycons because of the very nifty Rumble effect, so when the rattling gets to a peak and an exclamation mark appears above your head, press A to reel the fish in and prepare to battle it! It’s as easy as that – it’s nothing like the Stardew Valley fishing experience.

How To Find Fossils

There are a total of four fossils that players can collect: Bird, Dino, Drake, and Fish. The Bird and Dino fossils appear more frequently in Pokémon Sword, while the Drake and Fish fossils are easier to find in Pokémon Shield. There are two different ways to obtain fossils:

  • The Fossil Professor This NPC appears inside the Pokémon Center located in Stow-on-side. Depending on which version youre playing, they will give you either 2 Fossilized Bird or 2 Fossilized Drake.
  • The Digging Duo These twin brothers can be found in the Wild Area next to the Pokémon Nursery in Bridge Field. For 500 Watts, theyll both dig up a variety of items for you, with the possibility of finding fossils. While the rewards are completely random, it seems the Skill Brother has a higher chance of finding fossils.

Fishing In Pokemon Sword & Shield

The good news is that in Pokemon Sword and Shield you dont have to worry about getting yourself a fishing rod. Youll already have one in your inventory ready to go.

To fish, youll first need to look out for shadows in the water. Theyre normally round, circular-looking shadows, but this indicates that theres a Pokemon lurking underneath. When you see a shadow, press A by the side of the water and youll throw out your line.

Now its simply a case of waiting for the Pokemon to bite. As soon as it does, youll see your fishing rod move. Press A as soon as you see the rod move and your controller vibrate and youll reel in the Pokemon to begin the battle. If youre not fast enough with this, youll fail this little fishing mini-game and youll have to throw your line out on a shadow all over again.

Youll then be able to catch it to add it to your Pokedex, or you can just fight it and defeat it for that precious EXP to level up your Pokemon.

How To Catch And Train Lapras In Pokemon Sword And Shield

How to Fish & Catch Pokemons Using Fishing Rod

Pokemon Sword and Shield are the newest installments in the Pokemon franchise but that doesnt mean old favorites are irrelevant.

One of the best examples of this is Lapras, a powerful Pokemon from the first generation that is better than ever in Sword and Shield. All of its strengths from the olden days remain, but the Pokemon is made even better by its Gigantamax form.

Heres how to catch Lapras in Pokemon Sword and Shield, and the best way to use it once its in your lineup.

How To Use Dracovish In Pokmon Sword & Shield

For most trainers, the top tactic to use Darcovish in Pokemon Sword & Shield is using its powerful attacks. Moreover, the base power of these is doubled if theyre used before or when the target switches during a turn, giving it an additional 170 points at full strength!

You can also increase this dual power even further with attack bonuses from similar types as Water-type moves such as Strong Jaw Ability on your Dracovish that has it equipped, which will give Fishious Rend another 100 damage beyond whats already been calculated above.

However, it would help if you were careful while fighting against Dragon-type or Fairy-type Pokemon, as Dracovish has shown weakness against them, resulting in you losing the battle. So, suppose you ever come across a Dragon-type Pokemon. In that case, the ideal point is using another Pokemon than Dracovish, as it is likely that you will lose the battle before it even begins.

What Is Arctovish In Pokemon Sword And Shield

Fossil Pokemon are the talk of the town in Pokemon Sword & Shield. It is since the trainers can not catch these Pokemon like any other ones. They have to combine Fossils or Rend to make them in a research facility.

Arctovish is among this unique Fossil Pokemon of the Water category that has access to Fishous Rend. It doesnt matter if the other Pokemon is water-resistant or not, its bulky frame and combination of attacks can tear down their defenses like none other.

Suppose you Arctovish at your disposal, and you come across a water-resistance Pokemon. In that case, specific attacks like Psychic Fangs and Crunch can defeat them. Usually, a Water-type Pokemon is weak against Grass-types. However, with Arctovishs Ice-type abilities, it is highly potent against Grass and Dragon Pokemon.

Still, some Grass-type moves can be lethal against Arctovish. Moreover, it is vulnerable against Fighting-type Pokemon with attacks like Stealth Rock. Overall the Arctovish Pokemon is a worthy addition to ones team.

How To Shiny Chain In Pokemon Sword And Shield

So while encountering 500 of the same Pokemon will increase the odds of you finding a shiny, that isn’t the same as shiny chaining. If you encounter and then defeat or catch up to 25 of the same Pokemon species in a row, the odds of finding a shiny are increased even further. If you stumble into one that isn’t the same species, make sure you run away and don’t catch it or let it faint, because your chain will be reset.

Once you hit a chain of 25, that’s the maximum you can shiny chain in Sword and Shield. Combine all three methods and your odds of encountering a shiny will increase drastically, from the base 1/4096 to 1/455.

How Strong Is Lapras In Sword And Shield

Lapras is a powerful Pokemon both offensively and defensively. Lapras has combined base stats of 535, comparable to those of fully evolved starting Pokemon like Charizard and Blaziken. It has a particularly high base HP and solid offensive and defensive stats. Though it has below-average speed, its not prohibitively slow with 60 base speed.

The combination of high HP and strong base defenses makes it a strong bulky option. This is complemented by a solid water-ice typing that gives it just a few weaknesses and no double-weaknesses. While thats strong on its own, the cherry on top that transforms Lapras from a bulky option into a legitimate wall is its Gigantamax move, G-Max Resonance which deals damage and leaves an Aurora Veil that protects the team.

Offensively, Lapras is powerful without any investment thanks to its excellent coverage. Lapras is a legitimate boltbeam attacker that can also use Sparkling Aria, Psychic, Ancient Power, and Sheer Cold. Its physical attack offering is even more diverse, with powerful moves including Ice Shard, Outrage, Megahorn, Iron Head, Drill Run, and Body Press.

    Build A Balanced Team

To effectively face the many Trainers throughout the Galarregion and their many Pokémonyou’re going to need a well-balanced team ofPokémon partners. You may love Fire-type Pokémon, but having an entire team ofthem is going to get you in trouble when you battle against a Trainer that usesWater- or Ground-type Pokémon. The key is to form a team with a wide range ofPokémon and with moves that will prepare you for anything.

One of the early choices you’ll have to make in PokémonSword and Pokémon Shield is which Pokémon will become your firstpartner Pokémonthe Grass-type Grookey, the Fire-type Scorbunny, or theWater-type Sobble. Go with your personal preference, of course, but use thatchoice as a basis for assembling the rest of your active team. Luckily, you’llencounter a nice variety of wild Pokémon early in the adventure. It’s not toodifficult to quickly form a team with a solid range of skills.

Keep in mind that the first Gym you’ll face focuses onGrass-type Pokémon. That means you’ll have the advantage if your team is fullof Fire-, Ice-, Poison-, Flying-, or Bug-type Pokémon. You’ll have plenty ofopportunities to build a team of those before reaching the Gym, too. Forexample, if you don’t choose Scorbunny as your first partner Pokémon, you’llhave a good chance early on to encounter other Fire-type Pokémonsuch as Vulpix or Growlithe before reaching the first Gym. Chances are also very high that you’ll comeacross other useful Pokémon along the way.

Where Can I Find Arctovish In Pokemon Sword

You have to visit the Fossil Researcher facility available on Route 6 and combine two upper-body fossils and two lower-body fossils to create a Fossil Pokemon. To get Arctovish, you need to mix 2 Fossilized Fish and 2 Fossilized Dino in the facility.

However, finding such fossils is a daunting task. If you are a Shield player, you are more likely to get the Bird and Dino Fossil quickly. However, that leaves you with the Fish Fossil, which is much-need to make Arctovish. Still, it doesnt mean that the Fish Fossil isnt available for Shield players. It only means that it is infrequent, and you have to do some leg work to obtain it.

The Bird and Dino Fossils are accessible for Sword players, with the Fish and Drake Fossil rarely available. Nevertheless, all four Fossils are obtainable on both Shield and Sword versions to make Pokemons like Arctovish.

Moreover, if you are on your way to Route 6, you will get two parts of the Fossils closer to the Researcher. You are required to climb a ladder to the Fossil Researcher to fulfill this task. If you wish to get the Rare Fossils in either version, you have to visit the Digging Duo in Bridge Field. There, dig up the dirt, and you will find the rare fossils to make the Arctovish Pokemon.

How To Get All 4 Fossil Pokemon In Pokemon Sword And Shield

To create the fossil Pokemon of the player choice, head into Route 6. Here, players will find the fossil professor standing next to a strange machine. Speak to the professor and they will ask for two fossils to put together to create a Pokemon. Here’s a breakdown of what fossils create which Pokemon.

    • Dracozolt: Bird Fossil and Drake Fossil
    • Dracovish: Fish Fossil and Drake Fossil
    • Arctozolt: Bird Fossil and Dino Fossil
    • Arctovish: Fish Fossil and Dino Fossil

These fossils can be found multiple times through the man in the Wild Area, so if players mess up a combination, they have the option to go back and grind for more fossils. The fossil Pokemons’ original form is not available in this game.

In previous Pokemon games, the initial fossil was the only fossil players could find in their playthroughs. Although, back then players didn’t have to worry about mismatching the wrong parts together since the fossils came together in one piece. Traditional Pokemon like the fossils have been a staple of the Pokemon series since the beginning and will most likely continue for future generations. Mismatching the fossils in-game actually comes from real-world science, as a scientist would attempt to make fossils into their original forms by moving their pieces around, only to find that they were putting their heads on their tails or in other wrong locations. It’s always a treat when Pokemon pulls from real-world science for its own mythos.
