The Wild Area is the real cause of this, with its reliance on many factors to determine which Pokemon appear, where, and when. Just like some Pokémon require trades to evolve, some Pokémon require certain weather conditions in order to appear to the player in-game. Certain Pokémon also require specific weather conditions to evolve. For example, the Pokémon Eevee has a total of eight different possible evolutions, but two, in particular, require day and night conditions to evolve.

During the daytime in the Wild Area, if an Eevee is in your Pokémon party and has enough friendship points, upon leveling it will evolve into an Espeon. However, if that same Eevee were to increase by one level in the evening, it would evolve into an Umbreontwo completely different Pokémon types.

This is just one example, as there are several other evolutions that require certain weather or environmental conditions to evolve in the Wild Area. For example, Ralts, a Pokémon whose evolutions are popular in competitive play, can only be caught under foggy conditions in the Wild Area in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

The Crown Tundra follows in a similar fashion, as changing the climate is slightly different from the main game. While players can still use the Switchs system clock, the dates from previous regions will no longer work.

Interestingly, certain areas of the map have fixed weather, and rain, thunder, and sandstorms are currently random according to YouTuber Austin John Plays. Unfortunately, this makes things a little trickier. Here are the dates to change weather in the Crown Tundra:

How To Change The Weather In Pokemon Sword & Shield’s Wild Area

CHANGE THE WEATHER in the WILD AREA! Pokemon Sword and ...

Weather is essentially an element you can’t completely control in Pokemon Sword & Shield, but you can manipulate it – and just like the classic Animal Crossing cheats of old, it’s all accomplished by messing with your Nintendo Switch’s real-world clock. You see, the wild area weather is changed every day at midnight, with the switch at midnight based on your Switch’s local clock time.

In real terms, this means you can manipulate the game by opening your Switch settings and changing the clock in order to keep ‘cycling’ the days in order to force the game to re-roll the weather for you until you get what you want. The date and time options can be found in the System tab of your Switch system settings, for the record. There is no punishment for changing the system date like this, but you will have some strange things on record, like Pokemon caught in the past or the future. Just tell people you have a TARDIS, or Delorean, or what have you…

How To Check The Weather In The Wild Area In Pokmon Sword And Shield Explained

There are a couple of different methods you can use to check the weather in the Wild Area in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

The second way is to open the Town Map from the X menu.

Once this map is open, press the + button to show the weather for each route and Wild Area location.

You can do a very similar thing with the Pokédex as well.

Simply select the Habitat Map for any Pokémon within the Pokémon and then, once the map is open, press + to toggle the weather on and off. You can also access the Flying Taxi from this map, allowing you to quickly reach the right location, and weather, for you.

How To Change The Weather In Pokmon Sword And Shields Isle Of Armor Expansion

There are a few changes, but it’s still easy to do.

In Pokémon Sword and Shield, and more specifically the Wild Area, the weather is an important factor that directly plays a part in which Pokémon can show up in specific areas.

There are certain Pokémon that will only show up during one specific type of weather condition and nowhere else outside of that. In that case, youd normally be stuck waiting or have to go into your Nintendo Switch settings and change the date to alter the weather.

This is still the method youll be using to change the weather in Pokémon Sword and Shields Isle of Armor expansion. But unlike the original Wild Area, theres a different pattern youll need to play with to manipulate the weather to your liking.

Instead of going on specific dates or changing at the first of each month, the Isle of Armor works in groups of 15. Changing the date to the 15th of any given month will give you a specific type of weather, though that might change once the game is updated in the future.

Heres the full list of dates youll need to know if you want to properly change your games weather through settings manipulation.

How To Change The Weather In Pokemon Sword & Shield

In the newest installments of the series, Pokémon Sword and Shield made in-game weather a crucial variable. Weather affecting battles isnt a new thing, weve seen moves like Rain Dance and Sunny Day creating weather during a battle for years now.

However, having nine different potential overworld weather conditions really changes things. The existing weather conditions will affect battles taking place in that area, boosting certain move types or changing the effects of some moves.

For example, Pokémon cant fall asleep during the Thunderstorms weather condition because the ground is somewhat electrified. That becomes most frustrating when trying to capture a rare Pokémon that you cant put to sleep with a move like Hypnosis. Bulbapedia has more specifics on the battle effects of various weather conditions.

Weather also plays a crucial role in the Wild Area, the games largest area for Pokémon hunting and the only place to do special raids for rare and powerful Pokémon. In order to acquire rare Pokémon like Drampa or Sliggoo without being supremely patient, you have the ability to force the game into whichever weather condition you need.

In the Wild Area, if a certain weather is active, then the Pokemon that favor it will appear more often. Use this to target certain types of Pokemon to catch or fight.
