How Pokmon Training Works Outside The Anime
Its easy to look down on Ashs performance. After all, he has lost so many Pokémon league tournaments that even The Pokémon Company International dedicated an entire article to his failures.
The comparison is even more bleak when stacked against competitive Pokémon trainers, who use every ounce of the communitys accumulated knowledge to reach skill levels that would blow the minds of the animes characters.
But before delving into that body of knowledge, its important to distinguish the two kinds of competitive Pokémon, which are very different.
The first is the competitive singles community, which pits teams of six Pokémon in battles just like you see in the games, with one Pokémon on the field at a time. These players mostly congregate at Smogon.com, a community and resource for Pokémon that groups monsters into tiers based on their usage in online battles. By dividing Pokémon up in this way, its easy to see who some of the lesser-used monsters can viably compete against, letting trainers know when they can actually use their weaker, but beloved, Pokémon.
Smogons tiers are unofficial, but they are the most widely recognized. The site also holds frequent leagues and tournaments that have their own specialized rules for trainers to test their mettle.
Ash Did Win Once Before Then Kept Losing After That
That led to the Orange Island League, where Ash traveled across the Orange Islands for competitions that eventually led him to face off against the Orange League champion, Drake. In a final bid for victory, Ash’s Pikachu, of all;Pokémon, took down Drake’s Dragonite, which led to Ash winning the Orange League Championship.

But when Ash returned home to celebrate, he ran into Gary, who had also grown far stronger as a trainer following the Indigo League. The two set off to challenge one another in the Johto League, which led to Ash and Gary separately earning all of the badges in this new league, one after the other, until they finally faced off in the Silver Conference.
Ash defeated Gary, but lost against new trainer Harrison, who, in turn, lost to the champion, Jon Dickson.
Pokmon The Series: Diamond And Pearl
Ash wore a black vest with a white collar and yellow stripe, a white short-sleeved undershirt, blue cargo jeans, and black and red sneakers. He also wore a red cap with a blue Poké Ball print. Ash wore the same fingerless gloves he wore in the Advanced series.
Ash’s spiky hair is slightly shorter and slightly dull, and his lighting bolt-like markings are short and slightly big.

Pokmon: Ash Ketchum Finally Becomes A Pokmon Master
Since 1997, Pokémon superstar Ash Ketchum has been travelling far and wide in an attempt to catch ’em all.
Yet, in all 22 years of training and battling to be the best, Ash has always fallen short and been defeated by stronger trainers in Pokémon League tournaments.
But his fortune has suddenly changed and his dream of becoming a Pokémon Master has finally come true!
In the latest episode of “Pokémon the Series: Sun and Moon,” Ash wins the championship competition of the Alola League.
This epic moment is the first time the main character has won an official Pokémon League tournament.
Same Universe But A Brand New Trainer Becomes The Protagonist
It’s possible that the;Pokémon;anime could start over fresh and use a new protagonist who is unrelated to the original story. It could also go the;Yu-Gi-Oh! GX;route and start off with Ash giving his Pikachu to an aspiring new trainer, before he heads off into the sunset.
The;Pokémon;anime has already toyed with the idea of trying out new characters in the role of the main character, as was the case with the;Pokémon Origins;miniseries back in 2013. The idea of;the;Pokémon;anime being a cyclical series meant that Ash had to become an idiot at the start of each region so that the new fans could catch up on the rules of the setting. Using a new character and possibly switching out the role with someone else each season could avoid these issues and help to further differentiate each season from the last.

One said “History moment right there” and another couldn’t hide their excitement with “ASH FINALLY DID IT GUYS!”
Veronica Taylor, the actress who voiced the original English version of Ash in the first eight seasons, also sent her congratulations. “Congratulations to Ash Ketchum on winning the Pokémon League from Ash’s ‘younger’ self, circa 1998…yup, hard work, determination, good friends, and a bit of luck pay off!” she tweeted Sunday.
Will Ash Ever Become A Pokemon Master
Despite winning the Alola League Championships and becoming the region’s first-ever Champion, Ash does not consider himself a Pokémon Master. He is currently competing in the World Coronation Series — ranking in the Top 99 at the time of this article — in the hopes of challenging Leon, the reigning Monarch. Although, Ash himself has stated that winning this tournament would still only be a step toward becoming a Pokémon Master.
If becoming the strongest trainer in the world does not make him a Pokemon Master, what will? Ash does not actively seek to complete his Pokedex either, making it unclear what his goal actually is. The Pokémon Company itself declined to clarify what makes someone a Pokémon Master, opting to leave it up to interpretation. A term seldom used by anyone other than Ash, it’s possible that even he hasn’t decided what it means just yet.

The Very Best Like No One Ever Was
In the 139th episode of the Pokemon Sun and Moon anime series, in the tropical Alola region, Ash finally took home the title of Pokemon League Champion, according to ComicBook.com. Winning the championship earned him the title of Pokemon Master.

The Manalo Conference, the championship Ash won, was a downright Avengers-level mashup of series characters coming back to compete for the grand prize. Current rival Gladion, several friends, Professor Oaks cousin Samson Oak, Team Skull boss Guzma, and even Team Rockets Jessie and James joined the event. Ultimately, it came down to Gladion vs. Ash. Over the course of two episodes, the two rivals dueled with their respective Pokemon. Near the end of the fight, both Ashs Pikachu and Gladions Zoroark knocked each other unconscious, forcing both rivals to both rely on their respective Lycanrocs. In the end, Ash managed to defeat Gladion, earning him the coveted title.

Pokmon The Series: Xy And Xyz
In the XY and XYZ, Ash wore a blue collared shirt with short sleeves and white trim, a black undershirt, darker blue jeans, a red and white hat, and red high top sneakers. Ash also wore the same fingerless gloves he wore in the Best Wishes series.
Ash’s body looks the same only that he has tufts of hair on each side of his head that covers the top of his ears. Also his Jolt – like marking underneath his eyes are smaller than usual.

Pokmon: Every League Championship Ash Participated In
Ash competes in plenty of League Championships throughout his time in the Pokémon anime and even wins some of them, thanks to his skill as a Trainer.
Ash Ketchum has been on his Pokémon journey for the past twenty-three years. He’s been to eight different regions, befriending and catching all kinds of Pokémon on his way to become a Pokémon Master. Competitive and relentless, Ash also participated in numerous championships, often placing among the Top 10 and nearly reaching victory twice. It takes seven tries before he becomes a regional League Champion, though.

Still, Ash has two Championship titles. Most recently, he won the Manalo Conference, effectively making him Alola’s first-ever Champion. Such an achievement confirms and validates his skill as a Trainer, and most importantly, brings him one step closer to reaching his goal.
Go Takes Over As Protagonist
Ash is currently traveling the world with a boy named Go, whose goal is to catch all of the;Pokémon in the world, including the elusive Mew. Go is more concerned with catching;Pokémon than battling, but it’s possible that seeing Ash’s last run as a;Pokémon Trainer will convince him to take up the mantle and go on his own journey to become a Pokémon Master.
It’s likely that Ash would give Pikachu to Go, which would not only allow Pikachu to remain as the mascot of the anime, but it would give Team Rocket a reason to stick around. The current season of the anime could be acting as Go’s audition, with the producers of the show monitoring the fan reaction to the character to see if he’s worthy of filling Ash’s sneakers.

Pokmon The Series: The Beginning
Ash wore a white and blue short-sleeved jacket with gold trim, a white-collar and sleeves, a dark teal T-shirt, blue jeans with light blue cuffs, black and white sneakers with red dots, green fingerless gloves with light green borders, and a red and white cap with a green stylized “L”.
Ash’s eye pupils were not visibly shown, his lighting bolt-like markings are tilted and slightly longer and his spiky hair is sharper.
Diamond And Pearl Series
In the Diamond and Pearl series, Ash wears a black jacket instead of a hoodie, and with colors closer to the original. He also has a white undershirt instead of black for a change, as well as a black-and-red cap that has a blue Poké Ball symbol/logo on it, new jeans, and new sneakers. The gloves are the same as those from his second outfit. His outfit is similar to Lucas‘s outfit from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.

When Ash Ketchum first hit our screens in 1997 in the global hit Pokemon, he says in the theme song: “I wanna be, the very best, like no one ever was.”
Now the star of the anime franchise that is responsible for films, video games and trading cards has finally lived up to his dream, and become a Pokemon master.
The show, which is centred on the perpetual 10-year-old Ash Ketchum and his dream of becoming a master, features hundreds of animal-type characters called Pokemon, which can be caught, trained and used in battle against one another.
In an episode that aired in Japan this weekend, Ash beat Gladion to win the Alola Region league – meaning he claimed his first major trophy in the show and can finally call himself a master after years of defeats and upset.
The newly-crowned Pokemon master had previously won smaller competitions, but fans argue that victory in these tournaments were not enough to be given the trophy.
In celebration of their protagonist’s win, the official Pokemon Twitter account tweeted: “Anything’s possible when you believe in yourself, Trainers.”
The original English-speaking voice of Ash, Veronica Taylor, also offered her congratulations in a nostalgia-filled clip of her speaking as the character on Twitter.

Pokémon trainer Ash Ketchum has finally become the very best, like no one ever was.
After kicking off his journey to become a Pokémon Master way back in 1997, Ash has won the Regional Pokémon League in the Pokémon Sun & Moon run of the anime series.
This is the first time hes won the main tournament in the anime, with the latest episode aired in Japan seeing Ash triumph over Gladion to win the Alola Region Pokémon League.
Ash has previously won tournaments like the Orange Island Challenge and Battle Frontier, but they arent as prestigious as the traditional regional competitions which he has failed to win countless times across the show.
The news has unsurprisingly caused much jubilance across the community, with Veronica Taylor, who voiced the original English version of Ash in the animes first eight seasons, even writing a commemorative post.
Posting on Twitter, Veronica wrote: Congratulations to Ash Ketchum on winning the Pokémon League from Ashs younger self, circa 1998 yup, hard work, determination, good friends, and a bit of luck pay off!

In the most recent episode on Pokémon called Pokemon: Sun and Moon, Ash comes first in the championship of the Aloha League, a victory that is the first of its kind for him. He had previously won the Orange Islands League and Battle Frontier but his latest feat has no parallels in terms of his joy.
After nearly two decades of the show, which first made its appearance on Japanese television back in 1997 and has since changed its visual platform from being just a show to becoming a movie, Pokémon Detective Pickachu and the game, Pokémon Go. It reflects the kind of fan base it has been able to hold on to, for a really long time, globally.
Spread across six series and twenty-two seasons, fans have awaited the moment when Ash Ketchum would finally be the Pokémon master, still a ten year old with the red and white cap, who has seen some dark days. His journey embedded with many battles made for a thrilling experience for its loyal viewers and only in the 139th episode of the series do we see his goal being fulfilled.
In the end, he did Catch em all! The producer and director of the Pokémon games, including Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, Junichi Masuda, took to Twitter to send his warm regards to the beloved character.

Lily Of The Valley Conference
Ash’s loss at the Lily of the Valley Conference still stings some fans. During his journey across Sinnoh, Ash exhibited real maturity and growth, making many in the community believe he would finally become the Champion. His battle against his reformed rival, Paul, seemed to confirm this, as Ash showed remarkable strategy and composure that eventually led to his victory.
Alas, things didn’t go according to plan. Ash faces Tobias in the semi-finals, and he is no match against his opponent’s Pokémon. Tobias has a Darkrai, a mythical Pokémon that he used to win all his previous battles. Still, Ash manages to defeat the Pokémon with his Sceptile, making the crowds cheer. Tobias doesn’t even sweat because his next Pokémon is a Latios, and although Pikachu ends up fainting, it takes Latios down with it. It is too late because Ash no longer has any Pokémon left, and Tobias wins the match. Many fans still consider it unfair that Tobias won by using a Mythical and a Legendary, and they might have a point.
The Problem With Evaluating Ash
In a vacuum, Ash looks like a chump next to any competitive Pokémon trainer. But after a deep examination of the differences between the games and the anime, its clear how unfair that comparison is.
After all, competitive Pokémon operates in an idealized version of the animes world. Trainers have access to any Pokémon at any time and can whip them into fighting shape mere hours after hatching. There is also a deeply interconnected community that regularly exchanges information about best practices based on a cumulatively staggering number of Pokémon battles.
Ash, on the other hand, only has access to the Pokémon around him as he goes on his adventure. He certainly doesnt have the time nor means to breed Pokémon in search of the perfect specimen. He can also forget about using legendary Pokémon, which real life trainers use all the time because of their generally superior strength. In Ashs world, there are only a handful of each legendary Pokémon, if that. Theyre not available for use.
Also, despite the prevalence of video phones and advanced technology in Ashs world, there doesnt seem to be anything equivalent to the internet. If there is, Ash certainly doesnt use it to bone up on the latest competitive Pokémon trends.
