Pokemon Go Grunt Counters: How To Defeat
Pokemon GO Grunt Counters are easy to predict.
Ever since Niantic Labs rolled out their Team GO Rocket Takeover feature on Pokemon GO, trainers have been finding their favorite PokeStops conquered and being defended by GO Rocket Grunts. To get the items back from your PokeStop, you’ll need to defeat the guarding Grunt and free the location from GO Rocket control. Fortunately, these grunts aren’t difficult to beat. They have a bad habit of announcing their team long before you’ll need to put together yours.

Best counter: Smack Down Tyranitar & Rhyperior or best rock & electric types

Finding Team Go Rocket Leaders
As of November 5th 2019, Team GO Rocket Leaders are available to fight. Sometimes, when you beat a grunt at the Team GO Rocket Poké Stops, you will receive a Mysterious Component. If you collect 6 of these, you can make the Rocket Radar item. This item allows you to find special PokéStops that feature the Team GO Rocket Leaders of Cliff, Sierra or Arlo which you have to battle to defeat.
These bosses are harder than usual GO Grunts in that they use Shields. However, they also produce Shadow Pokémon as well as various rewards including the Unova Stone for defeating them. As of October 2020, you will also get a rare 12km Egg. The Shadow Pokémon they give can also be shiny

Pokemon Go Grunt Counters
Obviously, once you hit a certain trainer level, you can blow right through these Grunts with a well-trained Dragonite or Tyranitar. If you’d like to know which grunt will send out which Pokemon for Shadow or other reasons, however, here is a list. The key is to look at the battle phrase.
- “ROAR! …How’d that sound?” means dragon-types. Ice-types are your friend here.
- “Normal doesn’t mean weak.” means normal-types. Choose fighting-types here.
- “Coiled and ready to strike!” means poison-types. Rock-types will be your best friend here.
- “These waters are treacherous.” means water-types. Try electric and grass-types.
- “Don’t tangle with us!” means grass-types. Time to roll out fire-types like Charizard.
- “My bird Pokemon wants to battle with you!” means flying-types. Use electric-types here, but beware of a stray Dragonite or Gyrados.
- “Do you know how hot Pokemon fire breath can get?” means fire-types. Pick a water or rock-type.
- “Go, my super bug Pokemon!” means bug-types. Any fire-type will do just fine here.
- “Get ready to be shocked!” means electric-types. Ground-types work best here.

How To Catch Shadow Pokmon In Pokmon Go
Shadow Pokémon are creatures whose hearts have been corrupted by Team Go Rocket. You can tell you’ve got a Shadow Pokémon on your hands from its mean, red-eyed, expression and ominous purple aura.
As well as looking different, it’ll behave differently too. Shadow Pokémon have the charge move Frustration, while the Candy and Stardust cost to power it up are tripled.
So – how do you solve a a problem like a Shadow Pokémon?
The answer – purify them, and having a Purified Pokémon offers a number of benefits that make the process worthwhile.
More on that further in the article, but first – how do you get a Shadow Pokémon?
You do this by defeating the Team Go Rocket that have invaded your local PokéStops.
Once you have defeated a Team Go Rocket, they will abandon their Shadow Pokémon, allowing you to capture it in a similar way to how you capture defeated Raid Bosses.
Check out our guide on Team Go Rocket for all the information you could ever want on this villainous team, but, for now, it’s time to purify your new Shadow Pokémon.
Get Ready To Be Shocked
- Pokemon 1: Magnemite, Electabuzz or Mareep
- Pokemon 2: Magneton, Electabuzz or Flaaffy
- Pokemon 3: Electabuzz or Ampharos
- Shadow Pokemon: Magnemite, Electabuzz or Mareep
As all of these are electric-types, the counter is a pretty simple choice ground-types. Theres plenty of options here but the most powerful is Groudon.

Youll Be Defeated Into The Ground
Grunts using this taunt use Ground type Pokémon.
Best counter: Ice, grass, and water types
Ground types are traditionally weak to Water and Grass, but with the presence of Flygon, you may want to bring an Ice type as back up. Grass would be the best because it is resistant to Ground type attacks. Catchable in this encounter are Cubone and Sandshrew.
Breath Of Fire Improved
Capcoms beloved RPG series first appeared on the 16-bit SNES console way back in 1993 and was an instant hit.
Though there hasnt been a new game in the series since PC and mobile title Breath of Fire 6 in 2016, the series has sold more than 3 million copies in its lifetime and is still a big name for RPG fans worldwide.
Though this humbly titled mod does indeed improve the base game, it does an awful lot more than that too.
The colour palette is brought more in line with the SNES original, the script has been rewritten and the game has also been entirely rebalanced for all characters. An excellent hack and one which definitely belongs on the Best GBA ROM Hacks list!

Fire Emblem: The Last Promise
The fantasy-themed sister series to Advance Wars which is still going strong today, thanks to games such as Fire Emblem: Three Houses on Switch and entries on numerous other Nintendo platforms the Fire Emblem series have always been a compelling blend of turn based action and RPG elements .
Unlike Advance Wars, in Fire Emblem if certain units die theyre gone for good which adds a real layer of tension, risk and reward to every battle.
The Last Promise is a fan-created ROM hack of the first GBA Fire Emblem game and was the first completed English Fire Emblem hack altogether.
Its a very impressive hack overall, with the feel of an official sequel or spin off of the real game and the story even contains a twist or two that demonstrates the high standard of writing.
Its amazing that fans are so dedicated to hacks that they can create such rich experiences and The Last Promise definitely does feel as if it could be a genuine Fire Emblem sequel. Incredibly impressive stuff.

Are You Scared Of Psychics That Use Unseen Power
Grunts using this taunt will use Psychic type Pokémon.
Top counters: Tyranitar, Weavile, Houndoom, and Darkrai
This grunt uses Pokémon from the Drowzee, Abra, and Ralts evolution lines, all of which are easily defeat by your average Dark type Pokemon. You can use the same team you would usually use for Mewtwo or Deoxys raids. Ralts is also a Fairy type and has the potential to do damage to your dark types, but it is so incredibly squishy that it shouldnt matter too much. Tyranitar is perfectly good enough for these encounters and you likely have some powered up. Catchable in this encounter are Abra, Ralts, and Metang.
The Leaders Of Team Go Rocket
After fighting six Team Go Rocket Grunts, players can now also build a special item called a Rocket Radar, which will allow them to track down Team Go Rocket Hideouts, where they can challenge the Leaders of Team Go Rocket. While these Leaders present more challenging battles, including using their Shields, the rewards for defeating them are much better. Likewise, by beating the Executives and completing Special Research, players can challenge the Boss of Team Go Rocket, Giovanni, once per calendar month.

How Do I Encounter A Team Go Rocket Invasion
Team GO Rocket uses normal Pokéstops but changes them to be easily identifiable. They have a unique blue cube floating above it, and as you get nearer the Pokéstop, it turns into a dark gray version with a red R hovering above it. One of the members of Team Rocket will appear, and tapping on them will initiate the battle!
The Pokéstop disc isn’t just discolored either. It also behaves erratically spinning quickly and changing direction often which gives you additional clues.
Pokmon Go Grunts Guide: Lineup And Counters
Use this guide to easily take down any Team GO Rocket Grunts!
One of the most frequent events in Pokémon Go is crossing paths with a Team GO Rocket Grunt. While these villainous troublemakers are usually easily defeated, sometimes their Pokémon lineup can surprise you with a change that includes a stronger-than-usual Pokémon. In this guide, we cover each possible roster for the Team GO Rocket Grunts and the best way to counter them.
Currently, there is only one way to determine what kind of Pokémon you’re going to battle against when you run into a Grunt: their catchphrase. What may surprise you is that no matter what they say, it will determine what kind of Pokémon you should put into your own roster before the battle begins. To make things easy, we’ve sorted the catchphrases alphabetically below. To go to that list of Pokémon, simply click whichever phrase matches what is said by the Team GO Rocket Grunt you’ve encountered.

Team Rocket Meowth Balloon
For some events, a Meowth Balloon will also appear in place of the standard Team GO Rocket Balloon. This balloon is unique in that it brings Jessie & James of the Pokémon anime for a battle. You battle both of them and they both count as grunts so you will get 2 Mysterious Components. They will give Shadow Ekans and Shadow Koffing and both have the capability of being shiny.
Coiled And Ready To Strike
Possible encounters feature Poison type Pokémon.
Best counters: Mud-Slap Rhyperior / Mamoswine / Golem / Groudon
Grunts that taunt Coiled prefer to use Poison types, especially the Nidoran family line. You will commonly fight Nidoran, Nidorino, and Muk and Weezing. Our recommended team for this Grunt encounter is ground types for Nidoran, Muk, and Weezing. Zubat isnt weak to ground, but shouldnt give you any issues regardless. Catchable Pokémon in this encounter are Nidoran , Nidorino/a, and Zubat.
If you dont have the ground types listed above, just go in with your best ground type Pokémon or Pokémon with ground type attacks and you should win pretty easily.

But let’s be fair: this is absolutely just Team Rocket. Their appearance has been teased in-game for a while now, and now they’re finally here, gradually rolling out to players worldwide.
You can just wait until a natural encounter happens with them, of course, but if you’re a powerful trainer you probably want to seek out some members of this villainous organization to dish out some punishment. On this page, we’ll help you to find Team Rocket… and then explain everything new that you can do once you do.
Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced Battle
One of the more recent hacks to make it to our Best GBA ROM Hacks list, this hack which is based on the fondly remembered Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, a game that made it to our Best GBA RPGs list adds monster taming to the excellent turn-based action of the base game.
Players can now capture monsters and teach them abilities as they progress, using a new system thats been implemented in this hack.
Adding monster taming to the original game brings a dash of Pokémon style gameplay to the title and that wont be the last time you see Nintendos Pikachu-starring games franchise mentioned on this list
