How Do You Train In Pokemon Go

How Pokmon Go Battles Work

Pokemon Go How to Train and Evolve Your Pokemon

Here are the essentials of PvP battles:

  • PvP parties will compose of three Pokémon, compared to the six as seen in Raids and Gym Battles.
  • You will be able to swap between these three Pokémon mid-battle.
  • Though battles still aren’t turn based like the main games, they work slightly differently than Gyms and Raids. They are still in real time, where you tap to inflict damage with Fast Moves, while Charge Moves have you swipe across the screen to catch ‘orbs’ as they appear – a little more involved that the tapping of Gym and Raid battles.
  • Additionally, Protect Shields allow you to defend against attacks. You can only use two of these for the entire battle, so choose your timing wisely – do you wait until you’re against a more powerful foe before using them, or deploy them while you know what you’re up against?
  • There are three leagues – Great League, Ultra League and Master League, each having a CP cap for the Pokémon that can be used in them. The leagues mean it’s not just your best Pokémon with the highest CP that will get use – with the lower leagues allowing lower CP creatures to shine, putting your full collection to the test. They are:
    • Great League – 1500 CP cap
    • Ultra League – 2500 CP cap
    • Master League – no CP cap

Making Sense Of Your Awesome Pokmon

You’ll catch one Pokémon right at the start of the game , but as you wander around and explore you’ll soon catch plenty more. Clicking the Pokémon button in the main game menu brings up the screen above and on the left, which shows you all the Pokémon you currently have in your squad .

If you click on any individual Pokémon, you’ll be able to see its stats . CP basically means how strong the thing will be in a battle, while HP relates to its health bar . Every time you catch a Pokémon you’ll get Stardust and Candy .

Take the Pikachu above, for example. His CP is 269, but the semi-circular bar behind him isn’t full this means I could click the “Power Up” button and use 1300 Stardust and 2 Pikachu Candy to boost his CP. When I have enough of the right type of Candy , I can also evolve him. It’s worth noting that different types of Pokémon need different amounts of Candy to evolve .

How To Defend Your Gym

If you manage to beat all the Pokémon at a given gym and knock them out of it, you can take it over for your team. Youll have to assign a Pokémon to defend the gym. For a brief time after conquering the gym, you will be the only person who can place a Pokémon there. You may even come across an unclaimed gym while wandering around. If you do, post up one of your stronger Pokémon to defend it on behalf of your team. Be aware that putting a Pokémon in a gym means it will be unavailable to you for other battles until it is defeated and returned to you.

The primary use for holding gyms is that it earns you Pokécoins, which you can spend on premium items like incubators and raid passes. A Pokémon earns coins for the time they spend in a gym, up to a total of 50, so it pays to get your Pokémon into gyms fairly often, especially into gyms that are about to host raids. Once the raid starts, your Pokémon will be inaccessible for battles, meaning theyll rack up time without the possibility of some other trainer knocking them out.

Ev Training With Held Items

One of the ways to EV train fast is by using held items. Several items boost the amount of EVs you gain each time you defeat a Pokémon.

  • Power Weight +8 HP EVs gained
  • Power Bracer +8 Attack EVs gained
  • Power Belt +8 Defense EVs gained
  • Power Lens +8 Special Attack EVs gained
  • Power Band +8 Special Defense EVs gained
  • Power Anklet +8 Speed EVs gained
  • Macho Brace Double EVs gained

You can purchase each of the Power items at the Battle Park after completing the game. Each item costs 16 Battle Points.

The Macho Brace isnt purchasable. Instead, you must first have all three forms of the Burmy in your party. Then head to Pastoria City and speak to the Bug Catcher who is located north of the Poké Mart.

Why You Should Catch Em All

How do Pokemon Go gyms work when you reach level 5? Tips ...

So, you know the catch combos we’ve talked about in a separate catch combo guide and our Pokemon Let’s Go shiny catching guide? Theyre handy here as well, as it turns out.

Basically, the higher your combo is, the higher your experience multiplier is. It actually gets a bit ridiculous after a while. I was pulling 21,500 experience points a catch over the weekend just from lobbing Ultra Balls at unsuspecting Rhydon in a late-game area. I got 10 Pokemon to level 100 in a few hours – granted, four of those were already 75+, but its still an impressive feat if thats the kind of feat youre inclined to find impressive.

Ideally, you want to find an area in which the Pokemon are a high enough level for you to earn more than 62 experience points a catch. I use Cerulean Cave usually , but places like Victory Road and the Seafoam Islands work fine, too. There are also exceptions for Pokemon that are known for being rarer/having better stats, such as the Tauros that roam to the right of Fuchsia City. Just pick somewhere with decently-leveled Pokemon that you like and dont mind catching 100 of, because youre probably going to catch 200.

Aim for huge or tiny Pokemon and try to catch them with a single excellent throw. If they break free, youre better off without them anyway. Another Pokemon will appreciate you for who you are and get cosy in the first Ultra Ball you throw.

Pokemon Go: How Can You Train Pokemon At The New Gyms

The new motivation system in Pokemon Go.

The brand new Pokemon Go gyms are now active. For the past year of the games existence, players have gotten used to visiting friendly gyms and training their Pokemon there, which has the effect of raising the gyms prestige. But when you enter the new gyms, youll notice that theres no clear way of doing that. So how, exactly, can you train in one of the new Pokemon gyms?

The short answer is that you cant. Training in friendly gyms has been removed from Pokemon Go entirely. The prestige system no longer exists, and so there is no longer any need to train in gyms.

The old system of training has been replaced by a new system of motivation. How this works is that every Pokemon has a motivation bar, indicated by a red heart above its head. The longer the Pokemon is in the gym, the more motivation it will lose. It loses motivation gradually over time, but it also loses motivation as its defeated in battle. As the motivation goes down, so does the Pokemons CP, and so the creature gradually becomes easier to defeat.

However, there is a way of raising a Pokemons motivation: you just have to feed it berries. Doing so will bring the Pokemons motivation back up, and so this is sort of the games new equivalent of training. Instead of visiting a friendly gym and training in order to fortify it, you visit a friendly gym and feed the Pokemon berries in order to fortify it.

Pay Attention To Catching Mechanics

A colored ring will appear around the Pokémon youre trying to catch. Different colors denote the likelihood of catching the Pokémon, with green being the easiest and red the most difficult. You can increase your chances by switching to a stronger Pokéball if you have it, which will cause the rings color to change to the easier colors.

As you hold down the Pokéball, the colored ring will go from large to small. You want your Pokéball to land on the Pokémon inside that circle, and the smaller, the better. Catching Pokémon is based on a probability calculation the game is doing behind the scenes, and it takes into account which Pokéball you use, how small the circle is, whether you land your ball inside it, how you throw the ball, and whether you use any items. If you land your ball inside the circle when its large, youll execute a Good throw, but getting it inside the circle when its small will give you an Excellent throw, which is more likely to be successful. Also, the smaller the circle, the more experience points you get for hitting it on target.

Get good at curveball throws. If you rotate your finger over your Pokéball, you can spin it on the screen. When you throw a spinning Pokéball, itll curve toward your target. This can help you finesse a shot to get it inside the circle. More importantly, curveballs add a little bit to your probability of catching the Pokémon. Players can also get extra experience points if the Pokémon is caught using a curveball.

How Do You Fight At A Pokmon Gym

Pokemon Go: How to train your gym! The Right way!!

Fighting at a Pokémon gym is a hectic affair. The first time you do it, you might be at a loss as to what to do, confused by all the rapid movement and animations. But the basic mechanics are very simple.

There are just three gestures available to you: tap, long press and swipe. Tapping will make your Pokémon execute a quick attack, which is the thing you’ll probably want to do the most. Swiping to the right or left makes your Pokémon dodge your opponent’s attack. A long press will unleash your Pokemon’s special attack, but you can only do that when the blue bar beneath your green health bar is full.

Generally, the animations show what’s happening with flashes and projectiles when attacks are happening, and you’ll see dialog boxes appear about the effectiveness of your attacks as well as when you execute a dodge. Your health bar shrinks and changes color from green to yellow to red as you take damage. Your Pokémon’s CP rating gives you an idea of how much damage your Pokémon can do, while your HP relates to how much damage it can take.

At least those are the basics. There’s actually a lot more detail to the combat system that isn’t obvious, involving different types of Pokémon having advantages over certain other types, various “base” statistics the user can’t see that determine attack and defense values, and plenty of tips and tactics . This video summarizes a whole bunch of advanced tactics for when you think you’re ready:

Okay I Have A Buddy Now What

Go for walks! No, really, now that you have a designated Buddy you should go on strolls. Similar to egg-hatching, you can gain Candy for your buddy the more kilometers you rack up. Interestingly, different Pokemon require you walk different distances. For example, you need to walk 3 kilometers before you get a Candy for Slowpoke. You only get one candy after walking that specific distance, though. You can find out more about your Buddy’s progress by tapping the Trainer profile icon, then tapping the top of the screen, where your Trainer and Buddy are hanging out. At the top of the screen you’ll see the total distance traveled. In the middle, you’ll see your Buddy . At the bottom, there’s a gauge that shows how far you still need to walk for a Candy.

More Information On The Pokemon Go : Battle Team Leader Feature

You will receive rewards for the first battle that you do against a team leader each day. The type of reward that you receive will vary, and there are reward differences based on which league you select. For example, you can receive more stardust if you battle in Master League.

While the rewards may be better if you do a Master League battle, those battles typically take more time and are more difficult. I recommend trying out different trainer and league combinations so that you can experience all of the different options.

Performing these team leader battles is a great way to familiarize yourself with how the battling system works, as well as the strengths of each of your Pokemon. Certain Pokemon are better against other types of Pokemon. For example, your three highest CP Pokemon may not be the best choices depending on the typing of the Pokemon that they team leaders have.

Earning hearts with your buddy can provide a lot of utility in the game, such as catch assist, and even a level boost when they become best buddies. One of the ways to earn hearts is to use your buddy in a battle. You can earn these hearts in the team leader battles, just be sure that you have fed them berries first so that they join you on your adventure. Otherwise the battles wont earn you hearts.

Used Incense Then You Gotta Move

Pokémon Go Gyms: How to defend, attack, earn coins, get ...

Wily Reddit users found a way into the games code to figure out how Incense works. In case you need a reminder, Incense covers your Trainer in a pink, fluffy fragrance that attracts wild Pokemon to your location for 30 minutes. But you cant just be complacent and sit there waiting for Pokemon. If you stay still, youll only see one Pokemon every five minutes, which isnt a great way to spend your time. Instead, take a walk and youll lure one Pokemon every 200 meters.

If you want to rest on your laurels, then the Lunar Module is the item you want. It acts the same as the incense, except it attracts Pokemon to your position. A nice option for those who dont feel like huffing down the block on a hot summer day.

Why This Is The Best Thing You Can Do In Lets Go

Lets be honest – after youve beaten the Elite Four and completed the Pokedex, youll likely be shiny hunting, battling Master Trainers, or building a team for competitive battling. This technique allows you to do all three at the same time, as catch combos increase your shiny odds anyway. As stated above, this is also the fastest way to gain experience in Pokemon Lets Go.

If you want to tackle the ultimate post-game content – the Master Trainers – you’ll need these high-level creatures to do your bidding. In fact, you’ll ideally need a level 100 variant of each species of Pokemon in this game.

For reference – defeating Lances entire team will net you less than 10,000 experience points for a single Pokemon on your team. Catching one Chansey on a chain in Cerulean Cave can get your entire team 50k+. Why would you ever train against the Elite Four? Youre already the Champion, arent you? The best thing to do when you have the title is to say, Oh, my Champion title and I actually arent available to battle at the moment – sorry! Also, the Elite Four just straight up neglect their Pokemon after you battle them for a second time. I dont see Bruno training his Onix to level 100.
