HOW TO TRADE IN POKÉMON GO! (Trading Update)
  • Players can trade with a fellow trainer by first becoming friends. To do this, players should ask a trainer for their Trainer Code and send them a friend request. Once they accept the request, it is possible to swap Pokemon.
  • Players should then meet up with the new friend and try out the trading system. They have to be in close proximity for it to work .
  • Both trainers need to pick the Pokemon they want to trade.
  • Players should review the trade details and make sure they are happy with them. It’s better to trade Pokémon low in IV if the goal is to have their IVs go up. Another important rule of thumb is to never trade a 100% Pokémon because players will almost certainly lose that stat.
  • Players can then select the “Next” button.
  • They can do a final review before clicking on the “Confirm” button.
  • How To Trade In Pokmon Go: Increasing Friendship Level

Trading much like battling, participating in raids and exchanging gifts with your in-game friends increases your friendship level. Overall, there are four levels of friendship that you can achieve with another player: Good Friend, Great Friend, Ultra Friend, and Best Friend.

As mentioned above, in order to perform your first trade, both of you need to be Good Friends, which isn’t hard to achieve at all . You can become Good Friends in no time by giving each other just one gift.

In order to do so, collect special gifts that you can receive at any Pokéstop. These gifts cannot be used for anything other than sending to your friends. In order to give your added friend a gift, simply tap on your avatar > select the “friends” tab > pick a friend > tap “send gift.” One thing to note is that you can only send one gift a day per friend. Giving gifts also builds up your trainer level.

However, if you intend to trade with your in-game friend for a Pokémon that you haven’t previously caught, you’ll have to upgrade your friendship level to at least Great Friends. So you might want to try battling and participating in raids together in addition to exchanging gifts in order to quickly progress to that level.

    Ivs Change When You Trade

Almost certainly to discourage cheaters, Pokémon traded in Go get a change to their IVs and stats. This prevents players from “selling” 100% IV Pokémon, while the limits on Trading prevent players from constantly “rerolling” for better IVs.

However, the higher your Friendship level, the higher potential IV you can get from a Trade. This, along with the reduced Stardust cost encourages Trading between actual friends.

    Friendship Stardust And Candy

All trades require Stardust, with massively reduced costs depending on your friendship level. An example in screenshots released by Niantic shows a 1,000,000 Stardust fee for a Special Trade, reduced to just 800 Stardust if the players are Best Friends. You only need to be friendship level one with a friend to initiate a trade, which will only take one day.

Good friends can be achieved after a day of friendship. If players want to trade for Pokemon they haven’t caught yet, they’ll need to be on the second level of friendship, great friends. This level can take up to seven days to acquire. The infographic below by GoHub further explains friendship level bonuses.

Players also receive candy bonuses depending on the original catch location of the Pokemon being traded. If the Pokemon were caught far apart, you’ll receive extra candy. The current upper limit on these bonuses is a 100KM distance between the Pokemon’s original locations. You get between 1 and 3 candy per trade.

Trading Tips: How to Maximize Candy Gains from Trading ...

While there’s some Pokemon in the core games that require a trade in order to evolve, that functionality has been noticeably missing from Pokemon Go until a recent update. Now, all Pokemon that evolve via trade in the main games also have the option in Pokemon Go, alongside a candy requirement. This includes Pokemon old and new, so for example Graveler now evolves into Golem through either 100 Geodude candy or trading with another trainer. It looks like new Pokemon with this function need 200 candy, whereas existing ones haven’t had their candy requirement changed.

When youre looking to trade with another trainer in Pokémon Go, you have to consider not only what Pokémon you want from them but the level of your friendship with that player. If it is a brand new Pokémon for you or the player, youre trading with, that cost skyrockets, and it becomes expensive pretty quick. You want to keep those factors in mind when discussing a trade with another player in Pokémon Go.
