Ice Type Pokemon

Ice-type Pokémon are distinguished by their ability to withstand very low temperatures and adapt to cold temperatures. They control the ice at will. Their habitats range from mountain peaks, caves and icy caves or even poles.

Many ice movements are likely to freeze the target, preventing them from attacking until they are thawed.

Famous ice-type Pokémon trainers include Lorelei, a member of the Kanto Elite Four Pryce, the seventh gym leader Mahogany Town, in the Johto region Glacia, a member of the Hoenn Elite Four Candice, the seventh gym leader of Sinnoh Snowpoint City Brycen, former gym leader for Unova, and Wulfric, last gym leader of Kalos.

No Concept Of Immunities/no Effect

Every attack in Pokémon GO damages an opposing monster in the mainline games, a small number of type matchups actually result in no damage i.e. immunity, usually with the message X has no effect. These matchups are:

  • Normal and Fighting immune to Ghost
  • Flying immune to Ground
  • Ghost immune to Normal and Fighting
  • Fairy immune to Dragon

These special cases still exist in Pokémon GO, however, they do around a third normal damagerather than doing no damage at all. In our type chart, these type immunities are bolded and placed in square brackets. REMEMBER in the mainline games like Pokémon Sword and Shield, these attacks will have no effect whatsoever!

The more you can remember from the table below, the better, as it will help you know which Pokémon and which moves to use against your opponents. Heres a quick guide on how to read this table:

    • Type: The type of Pokémon/move
    • Super Effective: The types of Pokémon the attack type will do double damage against
    • Not Very Effective: The types of Pokémon the attack type will do half damage against
    • Weak: The types of attacks that will do double damage to a Pokémon of this type
    • Immune: Types that this Pokémon type is immune to meaning they take no damage.

Using the information above and the table,e below, you can deduce everything you need to know about how each type interacts with each other. Heres an example of how this breaks down:

    • Bug attacks are super effective against Grass and Psychic-type Pokémon and will deal double damage.
    • Bug attacks will do half damage to Fighting, Flying, Poison, Ghost, Steel, Fire, Dark-type Pokémon.
    • Bug Pokémon are weak to Flying, Rock, Fire, and thus will take double damage from these types of attacks.

    Flying Type Pokemon

Pokémon of this type can fly, many also live in altitude. Most of them are birds and insects. Its power is mainly related to aerial and wind attacks. Many of them have wings, but some float without wings, like Rayquaza and Gyarados.

The flight was combined with any other type of Pokémon to create a species The introduction of Fighting / Flying Hawlucha has completed all possible combinations. Until generation V, no species was ever of the Pure Flying type Porygon, Kecleon and Arceus could only do pure flight typing in combat, each with distinctive moves or abilities.

Famous flying Pokémon coaches include Falkner, the first sports center manager in the Johto region Winona, the sixth Hoenn Gym chef Skyla, the sixth leader of the Unova gymnasium and Kahili, member of Alola Elite Four.

Pokemon Type Weaknesses And Strengths Chart Explained

Despite the table above, there is actually much more to type effectiveness than meets the eye. For example:

    • Super effective moves will deal double the damage, whereas weak moves will deal half. There are also a few moves that will deal no damage at all, such as normal-type attacks against ghost-types.
    • Dual-types also play an important role. Dual-type Pokemon, as the name suggests, have two types. If the move you are using is effective against both the opposing Pokemons typing, it will deal 4x the damage. Conversely, if the move is weak against both, then it will be just 1/4 of the overall damage.

The best example of a super-effective type attack is using a water attack against a rock and/or ground type. In this instance, Geodude would be 4x more susceptible against any water Pokemon attacks directed at it.

The opposite of this would occur when a Fairy-type move is used a mon like Heatran, which is a dual steel/fire-type. This would result in just 1/4 of the damage.

Learning all of these strengths and weaknesses will undoubtedly take time, but utilizing our guide here when in doubt will help you on your way to becoming Galars number one trainer in the region!

    What Is Weak To What

If youre here, you probably dont know the type weaknesses and resistances. Also, maybe you dont know that when a pokmon uses an attack of its type, like if an elecrtic pokmon uses an electric attack, the damage is multiplied by 1.5. Well, here are the types:

Normal is a plain type. Some people say its useless, but others say its great. Id say Normal type pokmon are good, many of them have good status and they have only one weakness, Fighting, and are competely immune to Ghost, although they resist no other type. Normal type attacks, however, are not as good. No type is weak to them, but Ghost is immune to Normal and Rock and Steel resist it. But Normal attacks can be the solution to your problems anyway, as most pokmon can learn Normal attacks and many of them are strong. The Normal type is a physical type, so all Normal attacks are counted as physical attacks.

Fire is a hot type. Fire is a powerful type that should be on every team. Scizor and Forretress, both very common in teams, are only weak to Fire. Fire is super effective on Bug, Steel, Grass and Ice and is not very effective on Fire, Water, Rock and Dragon. No type is immune to Fire. Water, Rock and Ground are super effective on Fire pokmon and Fire, Grass, Bug, Ice and Steel are not very effective on them. The Fire type is a special type, so all Fire attacks are counted as special attacks.

    Weaknesses Of Dragon Type Pokemon

The dragon type is a broken type. They are solid when compared to other types of pokemon.

As expected, to take down a dragon type, you need something just as substantial. Because of that, the dragon type is only weak to themselves, ice types and fairy types.

It is difficult to pinpoint the weaknesses of a dragon type, but they can be countered. The dragon type has resistances to many other types as well because of their unusually high defensive stats.

It would be best to be careful what to put up against a dragon type, but it can be done, as discussed earlier.

Top 10 WEAKEST Ice Type Pokemon

In Pokemon Go, Every type of Pokemon has four different relationships with other types any trainer should be aware of. That is:

    • Strong Against: represented on our type chart as Strong Vs, attacks from the listed type against the type listed here will deal additional damage to your opponent. This is ‘Super Effective’.
    • Weak Against: represented here as Weak Vs, attacks from the listed type against these types will do less damage to the enemy. This is ‘Not very effective…’
    • Resistance: listed as resist, taking attacks from this type will do much less damage to you.
    • Vulnerable: your type’s weaknesses. Attacks of these types will deal more damage – watch out!

So, for instance, Offensively a Ground-type Pokemon/move is Strong against Poison, Rock, Steel, Fire and Electric types, dealing double damage to them. It only does 50% damage against Flying, Bug and Grass Pokemon. Defensively, that same Ground-type Pokemon will take reduced damage from Poison, Rock and Electric Pokemon but also take double damage from Water, Grass and Ice – which is vulnerable to.

With that explained, let’s get into the Pokemon Go type chart in full.

All Hail The Wait Let’s Not Use Hail

Hail gets a mention here because it is the weather condition most commonly associated with Ice-types, and in typical Ice-type fashion it is arguably the worst weather condition to base a strategy around. Whereas Sandstorm boosts the Special Defense of Rock-types, and Rain Dance/Sunny Day affect moves of the Water- and Fire-type, respectively, Hail has no such passive benefits. Its only notable properties are dealing passive damage to every type apart from Ice, lowering the power of certain recovery moves, and boosting the accuracy of Blizzard.

Thus, Hail’s effects are always neutral or strictly negative, unless the Pokémon carries an one of the three abilities and/or the three moves that can take advantage of it. There is no passive boost from Hail, only passive ways to avoid taking damage. And unlike with Sandstorm, where three types are immune to the inflicted damage, the Ice-type is the only type not to be afflicted by Hail. In short, Hail will be detrimental to all non-Ice-types on your team, and said Ice-types even need to be specifically tuned to take advantage of the weather. Building a team around Hail is possible, of course, by filling your team with Ice-types, but that comes with the problems associated with filling one’s team with Ice-types.

What Pokemon Have A Good Defense Against Attacks From A Dragon Pokemon

As strong as they are, they are still countered by other pokemon. The following pokemon have a good defence against dragon type attacks.

    Dragon Type Pokemon

To fight against a strong pokemon, you need another strong pokemon.

Its not a surprise that the dragon type is weak compared to very few other types.

But, strong as they are, they are countered by other dragon pokemon.

Some pokemon, which are of a dual nature, are good to use against dragon pokemon. For example, a mixture of dragon and ice is a good bet to use against most dragon pokemon.

Another good dual pokemon that is super effective against other dragon types is the steel and dragon mixture. These pokemon have a good defence against other dragon type pokemon.

    Fairy Type Pokemon

Fairy type pokemon are fantastic to use against most dragon type pokemon. This is because all fairy type pokemon are immune to dragon type attacks.

This is one of the only pokemon that has a resistance to most dragon type attacks.

So whenever youre up against a dragon type pokemon, make sure that you put out a pokemon which is a fairy type, because defensively, they are striking against dragon type pokemon.

How This Affects Pokmon With Multiple Types

As I mentioned before, some Pokémon will have multiples types, and this table gets even more tricky to understand once you start looking at how interactions like that work. The good news is theres a pretty simple way to break it down.

All modifiers for damage by a particular attack are calculated together when it comes to dealing with Pokémon that have multiple types.

For example, if you use a Flying attack against a Pokémon with both Bug and Grass types, it would do four times as much damage, since Flying attacks usually do double damage to each type.

Following in the pattern, if you were to use a Ground attack against a Pokémon with both Bug and Grass types, it would do 1/4 of the damage, since ground attack normally would do 1/2 damage to each type.

Why Is The Ice Type Designed So Poorly

    Pin on super smash brothers/Nintendo

As tempting as it may be to conclude that Game Freak have failed at basic game design, it will not be the conclusion I will make. There are legitimate reasons and arguments that prevent the Ice-type from greatness.

The designers appear to take inspiration from ice in nature when they create Ice-type Pokémon. In nature, you find picturesque glaciers and large, sedate icebergs. The creatures living in icy areas are slow and patient, to conserve heat. Standing still, hiding, or hibernating is a good survival tactic when the temperatures creep far below the freezing point of water. Real-world examples of ice in nature involves slow-moving geological features and sedate and defensive creatures. Polar predators are powerful, but patient. With this in mind, it makes sense not to design Ice-type Pokémon with high Speed or attacking stats.

Meanwhile, Ice’s performance in the type chart can be explained by the properties of ice as a substance. Glaciers and icebergs may seem solid, even indestructible for practical purposes, but ice itself is very fragile. You can destroy a small chunk of ice by putting it in your hand and then doing absolutely nothing. Ice is relatively easy to shatter, and snow formations even more so. It makes sense for Ice not to resist anything other than itself pouring any substance onto ice and snow will usually result in the latter being badly dented or melted away. Hence the Ice-type’s total lack of resistances.
