What’s In A Nickname Change It

Changing your nickname is easy-peasy. Just tap the Pokeball on the main screen at the bottom > Settings > tap Change Nickname. You’ll get a warning that you can only change your nickname once, so choose wisely, and make it count! And make sure it’s at least PG-rated because other Trainers are going to see it.

Joining A Raid Battle

Raid battles are arguably Pokemon Gos biggest feature. Once you hit level 20, you can access raid events in which a powerful Boss Pokemon appears at certain times of the day. If there’s a raid happening close to you, you get a notification and have the chance to join. But if you walk right up to a gym, youll be disappointed when the bouncer at the door asks for a Raid Pass or Premium Raid Pass and you don’t have one. These can be gotten by going to a gym and spinning the photo disc. Only one raid pass can be used per day, otherwise, you need to purchase a Premium Raid Pass from the shop to participate in raid battles more often.

Kyogre To Counter Rhydon

Sure, Rhydon is double weak against grass types, so if you have a really good Exeggutor or Venusaur already, use it. But Rhydon is also double weak against water, and if Kyogre is on your defender list, double duty as an attacker is twice as efficient. You really want Waterfall + Hydro Pump on offense, but its such a little aqua-tank, almost any moveset will do.

That’s true of tanks like Blissey, Chansy, and Snorlax, using Bite + Stone Edge, especially if they have Psychic moves Tyranitar resists. Pure Psychics will be hit even harder by Bite and Crunch.

If you’re just starting out, you may notice gyms that are blue, red, or yellow. And you’ve probably figured out that you can’t do anything with gyms yet! That’s because you need to be at Level 5. Once you are, visit a gym and join one of three teams: Team Mystic , Team Valor , or Team Instinct . Each team has a leader: Blanche for blue, Candela for red, and Spark for yellow. Not only that, each team represents one of the three Legendary Birds: Articuno for blue, Moltres for red, and Zapdos for yellow.

How To Assess Your Pokmons Strengths

As we mentioned earlier, every Pokémon in the game has individual values for attack, defense, and stamina that dictate how powerful it can become over time. If you are curious about how strong your Pokémon can become, you can have your Pokémon appraised by your factions gym leader, which will generate a message based on their individual values.

To appraise a Pokémon, tap the button in the bottom center of the screen.

Then, tap the button labeled Pokémon.

This will bring up all the Pokémon you own. Click on the Pokémon you want to appraise.

Next, tap the button in the bottom right of the screen to bring up a list of options.

Choose Appraise. Your faction leader will appear and give you a description of your Pokémon. For example, if you are on Team Mystic, Blanche might say, Overall, your Charmander has certainly caught my attention, or, Overall, your Squirtle is not likely to make much headway in battle.

While they dont offer a comprehensive breakdown, your faction leader will make a pair of comments based your Pokémons individual values. The first statement, which gauges its overall potential, is based on the sum of its three values. There are three stats, each of which ranges from zero to 15, so the total value can range from zero to 45.

So, what exactly do these qualitative statements mean? The game itself does not make them clear, but sites like GamePress seem to have figured out the underlying math.

Pokemon Go: Earning And Spending Candy Plus Pokemon Transfers

How To Manage And Hatch Pokmon Eggs

Another handy way to collect Pokémon that arent readily available in your area is by hatching Pokémon eggs. You collect Pokémon eggs as rewards for leveling up, randomly at Pokéstops, and as gifts from friends. Eggs do require a couple things in order to hatch, however.

First, youll need an incubator. Trainers will be rewarded with an incubator with unlimited uses early on for leveling up, and youll also sometimes get limited-use incubators as rewards for leveling theyre also available for purchase in the Shop menu. When you have an egg you want to hatch, select it on the Egg menu to pop it into an incubator, and then start walking. Each egg will have its own distance requirement to hatch it: Either 2 km, 5 km, 7 km, or 10 km. Once youve walked the required distance, the egg will hatch. The longer the distance requirement, the more likely the egg will contain a rarer or stronger Pokémon. Each kind of egg has its own specific slate of Pokémon that could appear inside it, so you dont only want to focus on 10 km eggs at all times. Hatching eggs with shorter distances will often yield more common Pokémon, but with the upshot that youll receive more candies and Stardust than you would from merely catching those Pokémon. Note that while many Pokemon are hatchable from eggs, only the first level evolution or non-evolving Pokemon will hatch from eggs.

Chances are you don’t need 99 of every Potion type, so get rid of some and you’ll get your Pokeballs back in no timeso long as you stroll by more Pokestops, or wait around for them to refresh.

Power Up Your Pokemon

Powering Up requires a mix of Stardust and Candy. Stardust can be used for any Pokemon whereas Candy is species specific. Powering Up will usually require a single Candy, but will require more depending on how close the Pokemon is to reaching its full potential, regardless of its evolution stage. You can tell how close a Pokemon is to being max CP by the white, half circular bar. Usually, once the bar is 75 percent of the way, it will start costing two Candy. Amount of Stardust needed to power up a Pokemon will depend on species and scale with that Pokemon’s CP. Powering up will increase that Pokemon’s CP and HP.

You’ll find that even powering up pokemon as much as you can, the white bar will never fill up all the way. To increase your Pokemon’s CP potential, you must level up your Trainer!.
