Super Secret Battle No 1 Trainer Card

This super rare Pokémon card was given to finalists at the Secret Super Battle Tournament held at, you guessed it, a super-secret location in Tokyo in 1999. Only seven of these cards were ever made, and only one has ever gone up for sale .

This card is a holy relic in the TCG community, featuring a unique illustration of the series resident badass Mewtwo and the original Pocket Monsters Trading Card Game logo.

Aw, look how happy he looks with his trophy!

Mew Victory Orb Trophy

The Victory Orb trophy card was handed out to the top 3 players of each age group during the Japanese Battle Road Summer 2003 and 2004 tournaments. Although the card was reprinted with different artwork for subsequent events, the original unnumbered promo card is incredibly rare and highly sought after.

Its for this reason that one collector was willing to part with $60,000 to get their hands on one in late 2020. Only 14 copies of the card have been graded by the PSA, 12 of which were given the highest possible rating. There are certainly rarer cards out there, but not too many of them sell for quite this much.

How Do I Find The Most Valuable Pokemon Cards In My Collection

As we just mentioned, even if youre selling your Pokemon cards in bulk, its important to identify the most valuable cards so you can get the most money when you sell them.

Heres how to do this.

First, look for old holographic Pokemon cards, especially from the Base Set. They have a slightly darker yellow border than newer Pokemon cards do. Base Set cards will have the number #/102 on the bottom right, but other old sets such as Jungle and Fossil also have some valuable cards, so pull these out as well if you find any that are holographic.

This is the style of the first gen Pokemon cards from the 90s.

If you have new Pokemon cards in your collection, you will want to look for ultra rare cards as theyre often quite popular. Look for cards with a holographic border , with EX, GX, Lv. X, V or a gold star symbol after the Pokemons name at the top of the card.

This is an example of a Pokemon GX card.

You should also look for promo cards, especially old ones, as these can be worth decent money. Look for a big black star symbol on the right side of the card. This symbol is a lot bigger than the typical black star used to signify that a card is rare.

If you find any unusual-looking cards that are not common or uncommon rarity, its best to pull them out and check their value online, just in case.

Eevee Black Star Promo

Totem World Pokemon Cards GX Lot with Card Case, 1 Pokemon GX Card ...

Cost: $$

It wouldnt be right to not have an Eevee card on this list.

There are heaps of Eevee cards in the Pokemon universe, and many more Eeveelution cards, such as Jolteons, Flareons, and Umbreons. But weve picked this card because its one of the originals, released soon after the Pokemon TCG first started.

This card was available through the Pokemon League, meaning you had to be a Pokemon player to get it, and the card was only available in June 2000. As a result, there arent many of them still available.

While this Eevee card isnt going to win you any Pokemon battles, its a great card to collect, especially if you like old promotional cards.

Sending It To A Card Grading Service

Suppose you want to get a professional opinion on the value of your card. In that case, you can send it to a third-party grading service. Take a look at the list of the most valuable Pokémon cards above. Youll see that they received excellent grades from agencies like PSA and SGC . An exceptional rate from a grading service can increase the value dramatically.

However, these services are expensive. Depending on the value of the card and the grading service you choose, the prices can range from fifty to five-hundred dollars. So when selecting the cards you want to send for authentication, tread carefully.

Ex Team Rocket Returns Gold Star Torchic

It’s not all that often that a starter Pokemon card that isn’t Charizard sells for big money, particularly a first-phase one from as recently as 2004. Gold Star Torchic from the EX Team Rocket Returns set is something of an exception, however, with a copy having sold for an eye-watering $50,000 towards the end of 2021.

The card in question was one of only 17 to have been given the PSA’s perfect GEM-MT 10 rating and 322 to have been submitted to the company for inspection. A few of the other cards in the set have also sold for high prices over the years, but none have fetched anywhere near as much as the little fire Pokemon.

Crystal Charizard Holo Skyridge

How To Sell Pokemon Cards on eBay! *2022 Beginner’s Guide*
  • Release Date: 2003
  • Grading: PSA Gem Mint 10
  • Pokemon card value at auction: $25,100

In 2003, interest in Pokemon cards had started to wane among core fans who had been collecting since it launched in 1999. As a result, production of the Skyridge set was considerably lower compared to past expansions.

This would also be the last release printed by Wizards of the Coasts and features the iconic e-reader designs meant to be a tie-in for the Game Boy Advance. Its low production has made the retro set one of the most expensive Pokemon cards products to hunt down from the era.

The crown jewel of the expansion is none other than Charizard. Its rare Crystal Holo design variant was extremely limited even at release. In November 2020, a perfectly graded version of the collectible sold for $25,100 at auction.

Tamamushi University Magikarp: $66100

Produced as a promotion for magazine publisher Shogakukan’s Celadon University campaign, this Magikarp card was awarded to those who successfully became “Pokemon Professors”. By mailing in the Entrance Test, Professor Test, Super Professor Test, and Hyper Professor Test , 1000 Magikarps were up for grabs.

Though so many were printed, only 91 have been identified by the PSA so far. PSA 10-graded cards fetch a much higher price than any other condition, getting $66,100 at auction.

Brilliant Stars A Newer Box With Charizard

Brilliant Stars was released on . One problem with this set might be that there arent that many powerful cards, as you might expect from some of the newer sets. However, if theres a card that can save a mediocre edition, thats certainly Charizard!

Theres two different Charizard cards here, and thats without counting the different art versions of a card. You can open both Charizard V and Charizard VSTAR in a Brilliant Stars booster box. You can see both of them below, in the iconic cards section. Youll notice that theres also Arceus VSTAR and Galarian Moltres, so therere certainly still some good cards besides Charizards.

So, if youre looking for a newest Pokemon booster box that can contain a Charizard, then Brilliant Stars is what you want to get.

Which Factors Determine A Pokmon Cards Worth

Generally speaking, the newer cards usually arent worth a lot due to the fact that most collectors can find them easily by doing a quick search. The three biggest factors that determine how much youll get from your older cards include:

The oldest and rarest Pokémon cards are from the original 1999 Base Set. A complete deck from this set can easily sell for up to $10,000. It features 102 cards, and there are dozens of popular classic Pokémon, including:

How much you can sell your Pokémon cards for is mostly dependent on three variables: the cards rarity, which print edition the card came from, and the cards physical quality.

Its important to note that your average Pokémon collection wont make you rich. Most common and uncommon cards are worth less than $1, and even rare cards are usually worth less than $5. However, holographic rare Pokémon cards often go for $15 and upespecially for older cards that have been sitting in your self storage unit for years.

Darkrai & Cresselia Legend

Cost: $$

For a brief period during the Heart Gold & Soul Silver expansion series, Pokemon produced what they called Legend cards.

These are the only Pokemon cards ever made with the card art spread out across two cards. To play them, you have to combine two cards. By placing them side by side, you can see the complete card art and the Pokemons full stats.

Of the Legend cards made, Darkrai & Cresselia is the coolest in our opinion. Darkrai is a famous legendary Pokemon, and the card art on this particular card just looks awesome.

This card also features some other unique characteristics, which havent been seen on any other card since it was printed. For example, the attack descriptions are at an angle, rather than parallel to the bottom of the card. This is why we think it will increase in value over time.

The only thing is though, if you buy this card, youll probably want to buy both halves. You cant really buy just one!

Psa 10 Kangaskhan Holo Family Event Trophy Card: $225000

SHOULD YOU SELL POKEMON CARDS ON EBAY? (eBay Tips and Strategies)

Frustratingly for many people, some of the most valuable cards today are those that were given away as cheap, disposable rewards back in the 90s and early 00s. A good example of this is the family event trophy prize Kagaskhan, which was given away to parent/child teams who participated in the 1998 Japanese Mega Battle tournament. An important reason behind its value is the expansion symbol to the bottom right of the art this logo was only used on the earliest of Japanese cards, making cards with it, like Kangaskhan, exceedingly rare. The PSA has only ever identified 45 copies of the card, and just 11 given the illusive PSA 10 grade.

At auction, Kangaskhans received between $50,000 and $150,000, for those coveted PSA10-graded copies.

How Do I Check The Value Of My Pokmon Cards

Youll need to know the card name and number, the set its from, and the condition of the card. You can find this information by looking at the card or checking online. Once you have this information, you can use a Pokémon card value calculator to estimate how much your cards are worth.

Price guides will list the average prices for cards in different conditions, so you can get an idea of how much your cards are worth. From there, youll have to evaluate the condition of the card and look for any additional markings that may make the card even more valuable.

If you think you might have a rare Pokemon card, the best way to determine its real-time value is by searching for it online. You can check websites like eBay and TCGplayer to see what similar cards have been sold in the recent past. Like all collectibles, the price fluctuates, but you can get a good idea of a cards worth by looking at recent sales.

Summer Battle Road 2007

Given that it was handed out to the top three competitors from each age division during Japan’s 2007 Battle Road Summer and 2008 Battle Road Spring tournaments, one would be forgiven for thinking that there are a lot of copies of Miracle Diamond floating around. That’s not actually the case though, with estimates pinning the actual number at around 90. More than 14 years after it was first handed out, one of these sold for an impressive $32,000 in late 2021.

Of those which were handed out, only ten have been graded by the PSA, with just six of them achieving the coveted PSA GEM-MT 10 rating. Unsurprisingly, perhaps, the current recorder holder is one such card, with the other four likely to sell for considerably less than the 32 grand it raised in the event that they ever go to auction.

Tropical Mega Battle No 2 Trainer

Charizard 4/102 1999 Rare Holo Base Set Pokemon Card
  • Release Date: 1999
  • Grading: PSA Authentic
  • Pokemon card value at auction: $50,300

Interestingly, this is the first Pokemon card in the top 20 that is so poor quality-wise, it didnt even receive a grade. In situations like this, PSA will still give it an official Authentication. Dont let the grading fool you, though, as the Tropical No. 2 Trainer card is pristine except the back which has color loss and fading due to the sun.

Given out originally at the 1999 Mega Battle tournament in Japan, only the top players received this Pokemon card. In total, PSA has only seen five of these, making it one of the rarest Pokemon cards in existence. Its so scarce that its still worth a jaw-dropping amount despite its quality setbacks think about that.

According to PWCC, one of these green Exeggutor prizes was sold at an auction in October 2020 for $50,300. Its fascinating to think that even a damaged card can sell for as much as a sports car. And this Pokemon cards value will only continue to climb given that they just dont exist.
