Pokemon Go: How to Add Pokemon to a Gym

Once a spot opens up, you will see a new icon in the bottom left corner of the screen. It looks like the Pokémon symbol with a plus sign next to it.

Tap the add icon and then select the Pokémon you wish to leave behind. Don’t leave your biggest and best because you won’t be able to use that specific Pokémon until an opposing team beats you and kicks you out of the gym .

Guide: How To Add A Pokmon To A Gym In Pokmon Go

To add a Pokémon to a gym in Pokémon Go, you need to find a gym that is friendly, which means it was created up from members of the same team you joined after reaching level five in Pokémon Go. For us, that means we have to find yellow gyms or have them made up of Team Instinct players. Team blue is Mystic and team red is Valor. You can place one of your Pokémon in a friendly gym to protect it, which will also earn you rewards.

Were going to explain how all of this works, so keep it up up with us.

Go to a local, friendly gym. Once you get there:

  • Tap the gym to open the location.
  • To add your Pokémon to that gyms location, tap the icon in the lower left corner of your screen the Pokeball with a plus sign next to it.
  • Then choose one of your Pokémon to put in the gym. Once youve selected one, Pokémon Go will confirm your choice and be asked if youre sure you want to assign it to the gym. The confirmation dialog also warns you that your chosen Pokémon will remain in the gym until it is thrown out.
  • That is it. When you put one of your Pokémon in the gym, you basically drop it to protect your teams gym and defend it from opponents fighting there. You can only place one Pokémon in a gym, but you can place a Pokémon in different gyms.

    How Does Motivation Work

Motivation decreases over time and correlates to the placed Pokémons CP . If you put a 2,500 Zangoose in the gym, it will have a cap of 2,500 Motivation. Immediately after being placed, the Pokémon will not have its maximum Motivation itll start a smidgen lower.

As Motivation goes down, so does the Pokémons CP temporarily, making it easier to knock out of gyms. However, the Pokémons temporary CP will never go below 20% of its normal CP.

Pokémon in gyms continuously lose Motivation over time.

    Earning Items At Gyms

Pokemon GO makes gym training a whole lot easier

While not originally the case, you can now earn items from gyms. When visiting a gym, you’ll see a disc that looks similar to Pokestop in the top left. Tap it and then you’ll be able to spin it just as you would a Pokestop. The amount of items earned will vary depending on a few factors:

    • Default: 2-3 items
    • If your team owns the gyms: 1-2 additional items
    • Bronze badge: 1 additional item
    • Silver badge: 2 additional items
    • Gold badge: 3 additional items

Furthermore, gym rewards tend to skew towards combat items such as potions and revives more than regular Pokestops.

Lastly, a Pokemon Go Plus will spin a gym’s disc, though this was initially not the case when gym discs were first introduced.

What Determines My Chances Of Winning

Each Pokémon has a combat power and health points score. Broadly speaking, the higher the CP the greater the damage a Pokémon can do, while HP denotes how much damage it can take. But there are also hidden values. One, frequently called energy or stamina, denotes how fast your special attack meter fills up. Others differentiate between Pokémon of the same type and level, referred to as individual values , which the game uses to produce defence, attack and stamina scores.

Those with higher IVs will be more powerful than those with lower IVs at any given rank, which doesnt make that much difference at the start, but can make a big difference to how powerful your Pokémon is by the time it is fully evolved and powered up.

How To Get Pokemon Sweet And Develop Pokemon

Pokemon do not level up in the standard sense in Pokemon Go. Rather, you power up and develop your beasts by feeding them sweet. Each time you catch a Pokemon, youll make sweet for that types; for instance, capturing a Bulbasaur will net you 3 Bulbasaur sweets. You can then feed that sweet to the Pokemon from its status screen to increase its Fight Power or develop it. This motivates you to catch as lots of Pokemon as you can, even if you currently have a beast of that types. You can likewise double the quantity of sweet you make from a wild Pokemon by feeding it a Pinap Berry prior to capturing it.

You require to capture great deals of Pokemon to make sufficient sweet to power up and develop them.

Considering that sweet is needed to power up and develop your Pokemon, the very best method to stock sweet is to capture and launch consistently capture wild Pokemon and move ones with poorer statistics to Teacher Willow. You can see a Pokemons statistics by tapping Appraise from its status screen. If the beasts not to your preference, tap Transfer to send it away. This will get rid of the Pokemon from your collection completely, however youll get one sweet in return.

Taking on and controlling gyms gives you experience points . Each battle you win gives you 100XP, which isnt a great deal given you can easily get that for simply catching Pokémon, but once youve secured a gym you earn Pokécoins.

Every 21 hours you can collect 10 Pokécoins for each defender you have in any gyms youre supporting. It is not 21 hours per Pokémon, however, so choose when to collect wisely; if you add more defenders after youve claimed once already that day you have to wait until the timer runs out to claim again. The only other way to get Pokécoins, which can be spent on things in the shop such as bag upgrades and lures, is to buy them with real money.

Its also about the only thing you can do right now if youre a high level and have as many Pokémon as you can carry.

Top 5 Pokemon To Use As Gym Defenders In Pokemon Go

One of the most difficult things to do in Pokemon GO is holding down a Gym without Pokemon with strong bulk.

Especially in highly populated areas, holding on to a gym can be frustrating due to all the challengers trying to take it out. If trainers want to maximize their rewards, though, they want to be holding onto gyms for eight hours. If this happens, that trainer will receive 50 Poke Coins.

To create a viable gym defense, trainers are going to want to look for Pokemon with three things: high Defense, high Stamina, and a typing with a low amount of weaknesses.

How To Level Up A Gym In Pokemon Go

Leveling up a Gym is essential in its defense. At its core, all youre really doing is attacking your own Gym. The difference is when you win, youll be adding Prestige to your Gym instead of removing it. Here is a short step-by-step guide on how to level up a Gym in Pokemon Go:

  • Follow steps 1-6 outlined above. Except this time, instead of attacking an opponent gym, attack your own instead.
  • You will get far less Prestige for winning against your own Gym than your opponents will get for defeating it. Because of this, you will need to attack your Gym far more times to level it up than your opponents will when they defeat it.
  • How much Prestige you earn your own Gym depends on what level your Pokemon are, how many Pokemon you defeat on the Gym, and what their power is. If you take down a 1200CP Flareon with an 800CP Vaporeon, you will earn more Prestige than if someone took it down with a 1500CP Vaporeon. You can exploit this;mechanic and level up Gyms wicked fast.
  • A Gyms level has no bearing on the Pokemon inside of it. A;Pokemon on a level three Gym is;just as powerful as it would be;on a level 10 Gym. The only perk to leveling up a Gym is the ability to add more Pokemon to its ranks.
  • Currently, you can only take one Pokemon with you when you level up a Gym. In a future update, you should be able to bring a full team. When that happens, training on Gyms and taking down Gyms should work pretty much exactly the same way.
  • Feeding Berries At Gyms

To increase their CP as it degrades or as people attempt to take your Pokemon out, you can feed them berries. Feeding a Pokemon a berry will slightly restore its CP, grant you 20 Stardust, and a small chance at granting a candy for that specific Pokemon.

Furthermore, you can feed berries to Pokemon at a gym while you’re there as well as remotely if one of your Pokemon is in the gym. However, when feeding remotely you will have a significantly reduced impact on CP.

However, a Golden Razz Berry will restore 100% of missing CP in any scenario, so if you have extra and really want to defend a gym, that’s the way to go!

To prevent feeding from having too much of an impact, you can only feed a Pokemon 10 berries per 30 minutes while defending a gym. Furthermore, a player cannot feed more than 10 Pokemon per 30 minutes as well. Additional, each incremental berry feeding will have a smaller impact on the defender’s combat power, starting at about 12% combat power restoration and reducing down to 1%. Nanab Berries restore slightly more than Pinap and Razz Berries.

Does Your Pokmon Even Lift Bro

    Pokemon Go

If youre going to start battling, its not enough to just collect Pokémon. You need to start making them as powerful as you can, and that means evolving and powering them up.

Most Pokémon can evolve from smaller, less powerful forms to larger, more powerful forms. Evolving increases a Pokémons CP, or Combat Points, the chief way you gauge the relative strength and combat effectiveness of a Pokémon. Evolving also increases the potency of their attacks and the Pokémons total HP, or Hit Points. The higher a Pokémons HP, the more damage it can take before being defeated.

Similar to how every Pokémon of the same type you catch may be different in terms of CP and attacks, evolved versions of the same type of Pokémon can also be different than one another. If you evolve ten Pidgeys into ten Pidgeottos, those ten Pidgeottos will have different CP and attacks from each other. And if you evolve those ten Pidgeottos into ten Pidgeots, you again may get very different results.

So the smart way to make your Pokémon stronger and get the most out of your Stardust and Candy, the two resources you need to make your Pokémon stronger, is to evolve first and power up second.

    Pokemon Go

Stardust is a resource you earn whenever you capture any Pokémon or hatch an egg. Candy is specific to each type of Pokémon, and the evolved forms of that Pokémon. When you capture a Pidgey, Pidgeotto, or Pidgeot, for example, you receive Pidgey candy.
