How Do I Battle And Capture Gigantamax Pokemon

GET ANY Gigantamax Pokemon IN 5 MINUTES! Pokemon Sword and Shield

Gigantamax Pokemon are considerably stronger than regular Max Raid Pokemon in most cases, and their G-Max moves can make things even trickier. Make sure you’re going in with a powerful Pokemon that has a typing advantage and resistance against the Gigantamax Pokemon you’re facing.

It’s also helpful to join up with friends to fight Gigantamax Pokemon. The game’s NPC trainers that join you when you’re alone are random and often bring weak or disadvantageous Pokemon to the battle. You don’t want to be teamed up with the one who brought a Magikarp to a Gigantamax fight, so try to use the search function to pair up with other trainers or friends as often as possible.

Pokemon Sword And Shield: How To Get Gigantamax Pokemon

If you’ve gotten far enough in Pokemon Sword and Shield, you’ve probably already seen the phenomenon of Gigantamax Pokemon — Dynamax Pokemon with unique, powerful appearances. These Pokemon don’t come about just by simple Dynamaxing. Instead, there’s a particular way to obtain these monsters for yourself, and it requires a lot of diligence and a lot of time in the Wild Area. Here’s everything you need to know about Gigantamax in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

How To Change Dynamax Pokemon To Gigantamax

You will need to feed your Pokemon a hearty meal of Max Soup to change a Dynamax Pokemon to Gigantamax when the Isle of Armor expansion drops.

Thats the current assumption, anyway. Since there was only a glimpse of the Max Soup in the most recent Isle of Armor trailer, its still unknown how well get our hands on the item or the ingredients needed to create it.

With curry recipes the closest thing to a potential Max Soup meal you need to mix key ingredients with berries to make the best and most effective dish. Its likely that putting the soup together will require the same type of process, though we dont know just yet what ingredients will go into the pot. Thats something that should be revealed when the DLC debuts.

How To Find Gigantamax Pokmon In Sword And Shield

Time to go raiding.

Gigantamaxing, and Gigantamax Pokémon, are a new feature in Sword and Shield that change the form of certain Pokémon when Dynamaxing in battle.

There are only a few Gigantamax Pokémon available in the series and they are honestly quite rare to come across.

The only way to find Gigantamax Pokémon of any kind is through Max Raid Battles in the Wild Area. You will need to search each glowing Raid Den to see if it houses a Max Raid Battle and, if it does, take part in it.

Even then the chances of capturing the Gigantamax Pokémon arent guaranteed as you will need to first beat it in the raid with fellow trainers or NPC characters and then hope that you are successful in capturing it afterward.

If you fail, you will need to scour the Wild Area once again for another Max Raid Battle, fight it, and try to capture it all over again. So be sure to have an Ultra Ball on hand when going into battles with Gigantamax Pokémon to give yourself the best chance possible.

Of course, there are other ways to get Gigantamax, with Pikachu, Eevee, and Meowth all having a Gigantamax available through Events and Mystery Gifts, so we expect something like this to also happen in the future with different Pokémon.

Catching Gigantamax Meowth In Pokemon Sword & Shield

When the game first released, trainers were allowed to get Gigantamax Meowth by Mystery Gift until January 15th. After that, there was no other way to get Gigantamax Meowth in the game. Although, Game Freak has been cycling in different Gigantamax Pokemon in the Max Raid battles. Gigantamax Meowth made a reappearance in the game from May 25th to June 2nd. Here, players were able to reencounter this Pokemon in the Max Raid battles. Although at this point, the event is currently over and Gigantamax Meowth has been removed from the rotation. It is likely it will make a reappearance with the release of the Pokemon Sword & Shield expansion pass being released very soon. To prepare, grind for Wishing Pieces and capture a powerful fighting type Pokemon to battle with.

Pokemon Sword & Shield’s expansion pass marks the first time in the series history where a mainline title is given DLC. The expansion pass is broken up into two different parts, the Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra. The Isle of Armor is scheduled to release this June while the Crown Tundra is scheduled for later this Fall. Both pieces add new Pokemon, old Pokemon, and new story scenarios for the player to explore in. Hopefully, this can become the new standard for the Pokemon series.

How to Get All Gigantamax Pokémon in Pokémon Sword & Shield

Time to catch your starters up to the Gigantamax curve.

One of the most compelling features in Pokémon Sword and Shields Isle of Armor expansion is the inclusion of Gigantamax forms for all three of the Galar regions starter Pokémon.

It was odd that the trio didnt have these forms included in the base game, but theyre finally here and ready for players to bust out in battle against some of the toughest opponents on the Isle of Armor.

You wont be able to unlock these Gigantamax forms right away, but it wont take you too long to get your starter into fighting shape. All you need to do is start completing the Master Dojo trials and get Master Mustard to teach you how to make Max Soup.

Mustard will have you traverse the Isle of Armor to gather Max Mushrooms, the main ingredient in Max Soup. Once you finish that quest, youll return to the Master Dojo and learn how to make Max Soup in the dojos kitchen.

Max Soup is an item that will enable any Pokémon that has a Gigantamax form to unlock its full potential and use that form. Once youre able to make the soup, you can feed it to your starter and itll be able to Gigantamax immediately after that.

Theres a cookbook on a shelf in the kitchen that lists all of the Pokémon that can Gigantamax. Heres that full list of Pokémon that can have their Gigantamax potential unlocked by eating some Max Soup, including all three Galar and Kanto starters.

What Is The Difference Between Dynamax And Gigantamax Pokemon

Gigantamax Pokemon are a unique form of Dynamax Pokemon that are mostly the same in terms of stats, moves, and abilities, but with two main exceptions. The first is that their appearance when Dynamaxed is different from just a larger form of the Pokemon: Gigantamax Pokemon have unique visuals that are even more intimidating or awesome than usual Dynamax Pokemon. The second is that they gain a special “G-Max” move when Dynamaxed that normal Pokemon don’t have.

These Pokemon are incredibly powerful and can only be obtained by defeating and capturing them in Max Raid battles or, for a few specific Pokemon, through special gifts from NPCs.

How to Get RARE Gigantamax Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield

With the base release of Pokemon Sword and Shield that came out back in November, Scorbunny can evolve to Raboot at level 16 and then into Cinderace at level 35. You could use Cinderace in Dynamax battles, whether against gym leaders or in raids, allowing Cinderace to grow much larger. However, Cinderace did not have its own Gigantamax form.

Gigantamax was a new feature introduced alongside Dynamax in Pokemon Sword and Shield that serve as essentially a new evolution, similar to Mega Evolution in the past. This temporary evolution in battle looks larger and has different designs, such as the return of the fatter Pikachu in its own Gigantamax form.

Cinderace did not get a Gigantamax form in the regular release, but we have now learned that it will finally be getting its own Gigantamax form as part of the upcoming Isle of Armor expansion, which is the first of two parts that make up the Expansion Pass.

The only thing that is not known is whether this will become available at the same time as the expansion or if it will actually require the expansion to obtain, but that is something well find out closer to the launch of the Isle of Armor this June.
