The peak of the crisis was just after the COVID19 pandemic hit and Pokémon cards were in high demand. The supply chain couldnt deliver cards fast enough and shelves were often bare.

With the demand so high, Pokémon card fans began to report an increase in tampered products. This includes resealed booster packs, missing items, and fake cards. Unfortunately, some of these reports came from Walmart customers. So, is it safe to buy Pokémon cards from Walmart?

There will always be a risk that cannot be avoided, but generally speaking, it is safe to purchase Pokémon trading cards from Walmart and Target.

How Often Does Walmart Restock Cards

Walmart restocks trading cards once a week from Monday to Friday. Each trading card brand has its distributors, so their restocking schedules can differ significantly. The timetable also changes to prevent scalpers from buying out the entire stock with a single purchase.

Collecting trading cards has become incredibly popular during the coronavirus pandemic, which has made it very difficult to find these products in any Walmart store. Most popular brands are rarely in-stock for long, often selling out as soon as they are displayed on the shelves. Thankfully, the online store has the option that can notify you immediately when the new shipment arrives.

Why Is Walmart Not Restocking Pokemon Cards

There are a few reasons why Walmart may not be restocking Pokemon cards. One reason could be that they are not selling as well as they used to and so there is not as high of a demand for them. Another reason could be that Walmart is trying to focus on selling other items and so they are not giving as much attention to Pokemon cards. Lastly, it is also possible that Walmart is having trouble getting new shipments of Pokemon cards from suppliers.

Walmart Will Continue To Sell Pokmon Cards At Certain Locations

According to IGN, Walmart has not issued a mandatory halt on sales of Pokémon Trading Card Game products at all of its locations, but some stores may choose not to stock the cards temporarily. While this means fans of the Pokémon TCG can still drop by their local Walmart to check for booster packs, the high demand for the card packs could continue to keep shelves empty for the foreseeable future. It also appears that many Target locations will choose to keep the Pokémon TCG and other trading card game products off their shelves for the time being due to safety concerns for the staff and other customers.

To help discourage scalpers, Pokémon TCG fans should refrain from purchasing products on secondhand retail websites. These products are often substantially overpriced, and may not come from reputable sellers. While it can be frustrating to wait for restocks, players can call their local game stores to attempt to put Pokémon Trading Card Game packs and boxes on hold when they come in, or call ahead to local retailers to check for items before going in person.

Target Stores Will Stop Selling Pokemon Cards After Shortages Fighting

Thanks to a combination of the pandemic, late-stage capitalism and people being arseholes, Target stores across the US are about to halt all physical sales of certain trading cards, with Pokémon on the list.

As comicbookreport, the restrictions will kick in from May 14, and will only apply to physical stores, with online sales unaffected. Target say that its not a permanent move, just a temporary suspension, and it will affect NFL, NBA and MLB cards, as well as Pokémon.

Theres a number of factors responsible, all of them related. Because of the pandemic, the production and distribution of cards has been hit, so stores have had less to sell. That combined with the explosion of reseller markets fuelled by the sums generated by certain cards at auction has led to increased competition for the stock that stores have received.

And where theres increased competition for goods in a physical space in 2021, there is violence, with a recent and most likely contributor to Targets decision being a fight that broke out at a store in Brookfield, Wisconsin over sports trading cards, which led to one man being beaten and a gun being drawn.

Pokmon Cards Pulled From Target And Walmart Due To Safety Concerns

Pokemon Mega Mystery 3 Box Trading Cards

The high demand for Pokémon trading cards seems to be causing all sorts of mischief – again. Two major US stores are pulling their Pokémon cards, citing customer safety concerns as the reason.

After images of shop notices were posted on social media, Target confirmed to Bleeding Cool that it has decided to temporarily suspend the sale of MLB, NFL, NBA and Pokémon trading cards out of “an abundance of caution”. The cards will be pulled from all stores on 14th May, but will continue to be sold online.

As for Walmart, there’s no word on whether the company has decided to remove the cards nationwide, but it seems at least some stores have pulled their stock. In March some customers began to report that trading cards were being locked up and limited to one per customer, and an internal memo has now leaked appearing to show that cards are being suspended due to “inappropriate customer behaviour” .

By the looks of this image from @totaltoyrecon, at least one Wal-Mart is not going to stock these cards either!

Did Target Stop Selling Pokmon Cards

The New York Times reported back in May of 2021 that Target stopped selling Pokémon cards citing safety concerns in stores. This was at the height of Pokémon pandemonium, and several stores experienced customers fighting for products.

Since then, every Target store has implemented purchase limits per person normally between 2 and 4 products depending on the store.

What Days Do Target Restock Yugioh Cards

Since most Walmarts have suspended their release of Yu-Gi-Oh cards, Target may be your best option apart from buying cards online.

Unfortunately, just like Walmart, Target does not have universal stocking days for new trading cards. So, you are best advised to ask a clerk at the service desk which days they typically restock trading cards. They will be able to give you a more specific answer about restocking based on when they get the cards delivered.

Target has been noted to be more reliable on release days than Walmart in the past, but that is largely word of mouth and not applicable to all Walmart or Target locations.

Some sources have been able to narrow it down to Target and Walmart restocking their sports cards Mondays through Fridays some time between 9am and 3pm. But that doesnt narrow it down too much so its always a good idea to ask the service clerks to get a more specific time.
