Open World Pokemon Game

It Sounds Like Pokemon Scarlet And Violet Are Going Truly Open World

OPEN WORLD POKEMON GAME (Pokemon Legends: Arceus Gameplay)

Give me that new region now

The Pokemon Company clearly want people to know that the two new games, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, are going to be truly open-world adventures.

Announced today as part of the Pokemon Day Direct, the titles certainly looked like they would offer an open-world structure, at least similar to that of Pokemon Legends Arceus.

However, with the official trailer now live on YouTube , the description clearly states that this is our introduction to the “open world of Pokemon”.

It reads:

“Welcome to the open world of Pokémon. Embark on an open-world adventure in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, arriving on Nintendo Switch in late 2022.”

I mean, The Pokemon Company can’t really make it much clearer than that, can it?

Update: Well, it turns out it can. A brand new website for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have now gone live. Along with some stunning official screenshots, we also got additional confirmation of that open world structure, which reads:

“With these new titles, the Pokémon series takes a new evolutionary step, allowing you to explore freely in a richly expressed open world.”

“Various towns blend seamlessly into the wilderness with no borders. Youll be able to see the Pokémon of this region in the skies, in the seas, in the forests, on the streetsall over! Youll be able to experience the true joy of the Pokémon seriesbattling against wild Pokémon in order to catch themnow in an open-world game that players of any age can enjoy.”

Pokemon Legends Arceus Review: The Open

The Switch’s latest game feels like Breath of the Wild, for your Pokemon.

My 9-year-old son has had Pokemon Legends: Arceus on his birthday list ever since he saw the latest game trailers. And I’m sure he’s not alone. My first few hours with Nintendo’s latest exclusive Pokemon game on the Switch remind me of what it felt like five years ago to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Nintendo has tons of Pokemon games to choose from on the Switch, but Arceus, for me, is the most satisfying. Also, the weirdest.

Breath of the Wild was a massive, open-world Zelda that felt like a living universe, and showed off the Switch’s gaming power despite being a handheld. Five years later, it feels like open-world game environments are pretty standard. Not always for Nintendo, though: The Switch’s exclusive games have mostly felt like comforting throwbacks . Arceus is, perhaps, a sign of change. Back to my son, it’s not necessarily the game I’d have in mind for younger fans, but Pokemon Legends: Arceus feels like the Pokemon game for the future of Pokemon.

Sometimes you’ll see something and figure out what the best way is to get there.

Explore The Open World With Friends In Multiplayer

Whats more, both games will allow multiplayer gameplay with up to four players. This means players can explore the various locations of the region in these games with other players, rather than just being limited to trading and battling Pokemon as has been the case in past mainline entries in the series.

The activities that players will be able to do in the open world with their friends in multiplayer havent been revealed as of yet, but the idea of embarking on your Pokemon adventure with your friends is certainly an exciting one.

How Pokmon Legends: Arceus Defies The Series’ Tradition

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a major departure from the traditional Pokémon formula. For one, it’s set in Hisui, a version of the familiar Sinnoh region from the distant past. The region, while depicted in a new way, is still one that has been explored before in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. This means Legends, outside of some new evolutions, new formes and one brand new Legendary, have no new Pokémon to discover.

In addition to not being a truly new world, Legends has been criticized for the way it looks. Most of these complaints are due to low quality textures and pop in, but others have commented on the game’s muted watercolor art style that some feel takes away from the character models and art style fans have grown accustomed to.

Legends‘ greater focus on building out the Pokédex makes for a substantial change to the franchise’s formula. Introducing the open world turns surveying and hunting Pokémon into the main gameplay attraction, making players feel more like a Pokémon hunter, rather than a trainer. Trainer battles are heavily deemphasized with the removal of gyms, transforming Pokémon into a Monster Hunter-like experience rather than a successor to games like Sword and Shield.

Scarlet And Violet Will Combine Legends With A Traditional Pokmon Experience

Your Open World Pokemon Game is Here...As a Hack for Crystal

Scarlet and Violet‘s announcement trailer features a combination of beloved aspects of the franchise and new innovations that will refresh the mainline Pokémon experience. The reveal introduces a brand new region inspired by Spain, which is exciting for fans who enjoy exploring the diverse locales Pokémon is known for, like Galar and Alola being based on the United Kingdom and Hawaii, respectively. Even though each region takes inspiration from the real world, Pokémon‘s vibrant art style always pops off the screen thanks to the franchises signature color pallet.

A new generation of Pokémon also means new creatures so fans can continue their quest to “catch ’em all.” Debate over which starter is the best devours social media discussion every time a new game is announced, and Scarlet and Violet‘s starters are no different. Another franchise characteristic is the emphasis on battling Pokémon and conquering gyms, which the game’s website makes clear will return in Scarlet and Violet. By combining the hallmarks of a proper Pokémon game with some of Legends‘ innovations, Scarlet and Violet have a good chance of appealing to fans of series by delivering both the old and the new.

We Finally Have A Release Date For Open

Coming to a Nintendo Switch near you in January 2022.

Earlier this year, The Pokémon Company generated hype with no bounds by announcing the creation of its first-ever open-world RPG, Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Three months after that announcement we still know very little about the mysterious spin-off though Nintendo did today reveal when we can expect to play the game.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be released on January 28, 2022 in every worldwide market where Nintendo Switch games are available. In the games first trailer, Nintendo said the game would be released in early 2022, so January is pretty much the best-case scenario we couldve hoped for.

Legends looks to be a radical departure from the tried-and-true Pokémon formula. Gone is almost every standby of the series, replaced instead by a new open-world design reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Fans of the series are very excited to see what Pokémon does with this new direction if its well-received, it could usher in an entirely new era of the iconic series.

Welcome to ancient Sinnoh Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be unlike anything the series has done before, though some classic gameplay elements, like a turn-based battle system, will carry over into the games open world.

Legends will be a monumental test for The Pokémon Company and Game Freak, the majority developer behind the video game series. If fans like the new direction, Pokémon will have struck gold.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Will Be Open World Right From The Start

Players will be able to explore the region at their leisure and not have to rely on the story dictating where they go next.

The new trailer for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet dropped today and revealed a slew of new details about the next major games in the Pokemon series. The trailer reveals even more of the games’ still-unnamed region, and evidence continues to stack up that it is inspired by Spain. However, perhaps most exciting of all was the reveal after the trailer debuted that this will be Pokemon’s first-ever truly open-world RPG.

Youll experience a world youre free to explore at your leisurenot in an order dictated by the story, a tweet published by Pokemon UK shortly after the trailer debut reads. That means you will be able to go anywhere you like, whenever you like in the new region without being tied to completing various parts of the game’s story and earning certain badges.

Previous Pokemon games, from Red & Blue all the way up to Legends: Arceus, have required you to follow a series of events in order to open up new parts of the region, and thus catch new Pokemon. Beat Brock for the Boulder Badge, for example. Or defeat certain Noble Pokemon in each area throughout Hisui, as well as achieve a certain rank, before you can move on with the game’s story and see more of what the new, or in Arceus’s case old, region has to offer.

Is Pokmon Legends Arceus A Real Open World Game

Pokémon Legends: Arceus looks like the first true open-world Pokémon game, but is that really the case?

Thanks, in part, to the Pokémon Legends: Arceus marketing team, many gamers are convinced the Switch title represents a bold new direction for the Pokémon franchise and features a sprawling open world. More than a few people have compared the game to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but is that really a fair comparison? Is it even true?

Well, the unfortunate answer to that question is no, but thats not the same as claiming Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a restrictive experience.

Each new mainline Pokémon game is designed to one-up the previous entries. New moves are added, stats have been rebalanced, and, in the case ofPokémon Sword and Shield, routes were primarily replaced with semi-open Wild Areas. Following that evolutionary path, its only natural to assume that Pokémon Legends: Arceus boasts the kind of full open-world that some Pokémon fans have been dreaming of. Now that the games review embargo has lifted, though, we know that isnt really the case. If anything, PokémonLegends: Arceus borrows more heavily from Monster Hunter to build its world, which is oddly fitting since that franchise borrowed heavily from Pokémon.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus Has Successfully Revitalized The Series Now Where Does It Go From Here

Leggende Pokémon Arceus è il nuovo gioco open world di Game Freak

Posted By Pramath | On 06th, Feb. 2022

Pokemon Legends Arceus is out, and much to the surprise of a lot of people who had all but given up on the franchise after a decade of disappointing entries, it is actually really good. Not flawless, mind you there are obvious points of improvement to be made here with the game. But without question, this is an incredibly fun playing game that is incredibly well designed and makes several long overdue steps to bring Pokemon games to parity with many other modern titles, and rekindle a lot of the magic that has been lost over the last few entries.

Its an incredibly thorough and comprehensive overhaul of the series formula almost nothing about the games hasnt been touched and rethought of in some radical way here. From core tenets such as catching Pokemon, battling Pokemon, and evolving Pokemon, to how stats work, how traversal works, how items and resources work, how your inventory works, how the story progression and map layout work, how the Pokedex works, how moves, status conditions, Pokemon stats and builds, all work, everything has been torn down and built back up in a fresh new context here. The result is a gamed that feels like such a dramatic modernization of the long running and beloved property, that after Arceus, it will actually feel extremely difficult to go back to the traditional style of Pokemon games these open world kinds of games need to be the future of the franchise moving forward.

Pokmon Scarlet And Violet’s Open World Is Exactly What The Series Needs

A natural evolution.

The Pokémon series has always been about the spirit of adventure, sending players out on world-roaming adventures to catch and befriend hundreds of creatures. For decades, players have dreamed of a true open-world Pokémon experience. At the same time, the fandom has always been resistant to any wide sweeping change.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will bring some huge changes to the franchise, including letting players approach gyms and towns in any order they want instead of in a linear fashion. Not only is this a brilliant change for Pokémon, but the natural progression of the series.

Even though Pokémon has always featured a linear story, theres been a big focus on exploration within those bounds. The different routes and areas trainers explore are crammed with optional pathways, hidden items, and extra trainers to battle. Exploration and freedom has always been a central idea of the series, with a young adult heading out on an adventure across the world.

The franchise has dabbled with more open environments for years, with the Wild Area of Pokémon Sword and Shield, then the open zones of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Its clear Game Freak has wanted to shift this direction for years, and finally pushing to full open-world can help push the game design of Pokémon forward.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet comes to Nintendo Switch on November 18.

Type Accessibility In Pokemon Scarlet And Violet

Pokemon ScarletPokemon Violet

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s open world is extremely valuable in part because it could mean players have more access to all the Pokemon types than ever before. In most Pokemon games, individual monsters are understandably isolated to specific environments that they’re adapted for — Bug-types appear in forests, Water-types appear in the ocean, and so on. However, this occasionally means that certain types are a little hard to come by, since they live in extreme environments that players only access towards the later stages of the game. For instance, Ice-types are often hidden in the deep sea or in distant snowy regions, while some Steel-types are only found deep in challenging cave environments.

Pokemons Dire Need For Change

Pokemon has a formula that seldom allows itself to absorb new ideas beyond gimmicks and retooling battle mechanics. Pokemon Sun and Moon were the closest the mainline games got to giving players a different goal, but they still had a Pokemon League with a proper Elite Four, and Alola had its own villains in Team Skull. Making an open-world mainline Pokemon game does not guarantee any radical changes to the formula. It is perfectly reasonable to expect a Pokemon game to be open world while keeping the usual Pokemon League and villainous team. However, removing the environmental linearity could also provide opportunities to spice up the formula.

An open-world Pokemon game could have the regional landmarks, routes, towns, and cities be far more developed from both a visual and writing standpoint. The typical Pokemon town has a dozen residents, making these vast worlds feel underpopulated. Due to the power of modern technology and the ideas that come with open world games, a Pokemon game of such caliber could have far more NPCs to interact with.

Towns and cities could have more houses, businesses, and miscellaneous buildings. Outside of civilization, the Wild Area from Sword and Shield could serve as inspiration for the treatment of Wild Pokemon. Casually encountering them and making the decision to confront them would not only make Pokemon closer to the typical modern RPG, but would make this hypothetical game more immersive.
