What Are Mega Raids
Mega Raids are a new tier of Raid Battles that will periodically occur at Gyms. These are roughly equivalent to Legendary Raids in terms of challenge, except they feature a Mega-Evolved Pokemon as the Raid boss.
If you can defeat the Mega-Evolved Pokemon, youll receive its Mega Energy, which youll need to Mega Evolve your own Pokemon. The faster you defeat the Raid boss, the more Mega Energy and other rewards youll earn after the battle. Youll also get a chance to catch the Raid boss .
Ex Raid Pass Schedule
EX Raid Passes are handed out up to eight days in advance of a scheduled raid. Though it can be speculated that EX raid scheduling is determined by when the majority of players have participated in standard raids, players ultimately do not have control over the day/time that their raid will be scheduled for.
If you are lucky enough to be selected to receive an EX pass, it could be during work/school hours, on any day of the week .
Because of the eight day wait for invitations and the lack of control over scheduling, keep in mind what youll be doing in a week to two weeks time before actively trying to get in the EX Raid lottery .
Using A Raid Pass To Challenge A Pokmon
A Raid Boss can be challenged by Trainers from all teams, regardless of which team currently controls the Gym. However, the team who control the Gym when the Raid Boss gets defeated receives extra Premier Balls, which you use in attempts to catch the Raid Pokémon.
Trainers can join private groups or automatically get matched with nearby Trainers in groups of up to 20 Trainers each. Your Raid Pass will be consumed upon entering a Raid Battle and will grant access to the Raid for as long as it is active.
When a Raid Egg hatches and the encounter is ready to be challenged, a lobby gets created and Trainers have two minutes to join. Youll generally want to try to join a raid right as it begins. The longer you wait, the less likely you are to have additional Trainers to party with, unless youve brought with you a group of friends. If youd prefer to battle the Raid Pokémon only with friends, you can create a private lobby and challenge the Boss together.
The Raid will be available for a limited amount of time from the time it begins, typically one hour, and any number of Trainers can participate in the battle during this time. Legendary Raids will have longer than usual Raid duration.
You can rejoin the battle as many times as you need while the raid is active. This small break gives you opportunities to Revive knocked out Pokémon or change your team if necessary. Once this window has passed, the Gym returns to normal and previously defending Pokémon return to their posts.

How Do You Leave A Raid Once Youre Already In The Lobby
You can leave the Raid lobby at any time:
Make sure you exit all the way out until youre standing outside the Gym again. Otherwise you risk joining the same countdown as before and with even less time to prepare.
When it doubt, switch to a Private Group.
Pokemon Go Raid Level Requirement
Alas, there is a catch to all this. Players that want to take part in raids will need to be a certain level to get raiding and its a level that means youll have to be a fairly dedicated or longer-time Pokemon Go player to join.
Right now youll need to be at least Trainer Level 20 in order to take part in raids. This has been lowered twice during beta, players need to be level 35 to participate in Pokemon GO raids, and shortly after the update launched, they needed to be level 25. Level 20, the new requirement, is much more achievable but still might be out of reach of some of the more casual Pokemon Go players.
If youre below level 20 youll still be able to get to grips with a lot of Pokemon Gos new features including the reworked gyms, gym badges and so on, and these will help you to level up quickly.

How To Obtain Raid Passes
To participate in a Raid Battle, youll first need to get a Raid Pass. You can obtain one free Raid Pass each day from the first Gym Photo Disc you spin. You can hold only one Raid Pass at a time, so youll want to use it before spinning a Gym Photo Disc on another day.
If you dont get a chance to use the free Raid Pass before spinning your first Gym of the day, dont worry. Youll still receive your free Raid Pass at the first Gym you spin that day after your Raid Pass gets used. You can hold any number of Premium Raid Passes but only one EX Raid Pass. There are three different kinds of Raid Passes:

How To Get An Ex Raid Pass
When the location for an EX Raid is determined by Pokémon GOs servers, EX Raid Passes are distributed to a selection of players who have recently defeated the raid boss at that gym.
Niantic acknowledges that the following best practices will increase your chances of receiving an EX Raid Pass:
- Most obviously, you should focus on completing high-level raids at EX Raid Gyms
- Players with higher level Gym Badges at EX Raid Gyms are more likely to be invited to EX Raid Battles there
- Complete multiple battles at the same EX Raid Gym to increase your chances of selection
- Raid in multiple EX Raid Gyms to increase the probability that a gym you frequent will be selected

How Do I Get Premier Balls
Premier balls are exclusive to raids, and are the sole type of Poké ball that you can use to try and capture the raid boss if you successfully defeat it. You cant collect premier balls using the ordinary means, and will instead earn a set number depending on the following factors:
- Defeat the boss: five premier balls
- Damage: up to four premier balls
- Gym: up to two if you control gym
- Team contribution: you gain extra premier balls depending on the damage your team, as a whole, inflicts
- Friends: Raid with a friend to receive up to four extra premier balls
So, as you can see, its possible to earn a fair number of extra balls by paying attention to the above.
