The Masked Royal Prize Promo: $18000

How Much Are Evolutions Pokemon Cards Worth?

This is undoubtedly one of the most recent rare cards, featuring the Masked Royal character from Pokemon Sun & Moon and released as recently as 2017. This is essentially a promotional card that was given out to players in an invitation-only prerelease in Tokyo for the new Shining Legends set, where only 100 copies were made.

Even though this is a relatively normal card by most standards, this short print run means its incredibly hard to get, especially since it was handed out in such a restrictive event. As a result, there are actually preserved tweets of players first opening it in places like Pokeboon, while Japanese trading sites like Miyabi Hobby have past listings of the card at ¥2,000,000, which currently is equal to around $18,000 USD.

Pokemon Snap Trainer Magazine Pikachu: $900

If you were a Pokemon fan back in the days of the Nintendo 64 console, you might just remember the classic spin-off game Pokemon Snap. The object of this Pokemon spin-off was to snap creative in-game photos of various creatures, and there were several tie-in cards in Japans Pokemon Trainer Magazine to help increase the hype among fans to try this new game.

This card was a Pikachu card with the model from Pokemon Snap as the art, making for a relatively hilarious-looking card that only could be found within this magazine in 1999. Miyabihobby has a record of an unopened magazine being sold for 100,000, or about $900 USD, but PSA Card has records of auctions ranging between $300 and $1000 for perfect condition grades.

Dragonite Color Test Strip Error

For the record, I just made that name up. But that’s because this particular miscut is so rare that no one has given it an official name yet! What makes these error cards so unique is that these miscuts don’t include another Pokemon, they include something that was never supposed to be seen at all! Every sheet printed includes those colors on the side, but this is the first time I’ve ever seen them make it onto a card. Also notice how the texture runs all the through to the silver line on on the top, whereas the card itself is supposed to be cut off in the black. A little extra bleed on the edges still can’t save yah here, Dragonite!

Is Shiny Axew In Pokemon Go

When this Shiny comes out, expect Deino/Rufflet/Gible-levels of frustration among players unable to get it. Axew has become essentially the new rarest Pokémon in the game as a rarer hatch and encounter than Deino, Tirtouga, and Archen. Every stage of its Shiny form is completely different in color way as well.

Dragonite Pokemon Card Value

Dragonite Roaring Skies Card Price How much it

A Holo-First Edition Dragonite Fossil set card that is graded a 10 on the PSA grading scale has an average price of $5,761.83 on psacard.com.

The highest recorded sale at auction of this card was $9,850 in October of 2020. It is the most consistently valuable card from the First Edition Fossil set card collection that was released in 1999.

Dragonite is Pokémon #149, making it a part of the original set of 151 Pokémon created for the first Pokémon games, Red and Green, released in Japan in early 1996.

It is one of the rarest Pokémon in the first collection of games and can only be obtained by evolving a Dragonair. Dragonite also makes several appearances in the anime adaption of Pokemon, with the first being in Episode 13: Mystery at the Lighthouse.

The original English release of the Dragonite Pokémon card was in 1999 as a part of the First Edition Fossil set cards, a set that included all the pre-historic, ancient, and dinosaur-like Pokémon.

It is the first card to come with a rainbow holographic foil and is probably the origin of the term rainbow rare that is used to refer to rare Pokémon cards with rainbow holographic foil.

Some other notable cards from that First edition Fossil release include the First Edition Gengar, a fan-favorite Pokémon, and currently a very difficult card to obtain in good condition.

There are only about 100 PSA 10 graded Gengars on the known market, driving its cost up as high as $4,000 in January 2021.

Base Set Ninetales Error

Behold, the worst moveset in the history of worst movesets! This Ninetales card allows you to, for the modest price of four energy, discard 1 energy card.

Thats it.

This error card was printed without the damage for the move Fire Blast, which was originally supposed to say 80. Later versions of this card have been updated to show the damage of the move, but that doesn’t stop this special set of Ninetales from making our list, as the misprint renders this Pokémon completely useless. Might as well give him the move Splash and a cute fish crown!

Holographic Shadowless Blastoise: $2475

Out of the three final-evolution Kanto starters, it’s Blastoise who has the least valuable Shadowless holographic card, reaching heights of $2475 on Pokemon Prices. We say “least valuable”, but that’s still a lot of money for just the one card, and its hardly far behind its sibling Venusaur.

That’s if Blastoise is still in mint condition, of course, which is a big ask considering these cards are over 20 years old. Carrying the powerful Water-type move Hydro Pump, this version of Blastoise was a pretty impressive card to carry in your deck back in the day, but at this point its still a solid collectible card.

Youll also find scores of Pokemon V, VMAX, Amazing Rare, Shiny Rare, Shiny Rare V, and Shiny Rare VMAX these cards tend to be the most valuable cards in the Shining Fates set.

Identify Type And Assess Rarity

Pokemon Card Prices

The first step to identify if a card is potentially worth anything substantial is to check its type and rarity. In other words, how likely the card is to come across from any given booster pack or special event, and if it has any special characteristics, such as card material or Pokemon types.

There are a few indicators of rarity on any given card, though theyre quite subject to change depending on when said card was printed. A marker near the bottom of the card or near its name will indicate rarity: a circle means the card is common, a diamond means its less common, and stars mean its rare. More stars or with combinations of letters or symbols mean extra rare, including if those symbols are in the name or elsewhere on the card. Other characteristics that can up the rarity include: a higher printed number than there should be in a given printed set holographic artwork or reverse holographic, in which everything but the artwork is holographic artwork that takes up the full card artwork wherein the creature doesnt cast a shadow and any shining characteristics, not to be confused with holographic.

While rarity isnt the only factor in appraising value, its certainly a major factor: Some of the highest-selling cards worth tens of thousands of dollars, or considered priceless from lack of supply, are only so because of small rarities like misprints or typos.

Raichu Prerelease Promo Err0r

Now, this card actually made it onto our list of the Top 10 Rarest Pokemon Cards of All Time, being one of the most expensive error cards in existence. During the production of the Prerelease Clefable for the Jungle set, a few Base Set Raichu cards were accidentally stamped with the prerelease mark . These error cards were given to employees at Wizards of the Coast, and the public did not learn of these cards’ existence until 2006, when a former employee of WOTC spoke about the odd mishap! It is estimated that there are only 8-10 of this card in existence, and this card has sold in online auctions for upwards of $10,000.

Holographic Shadowless Charizard: $500000

Dragonite Sun & Moon Card Price How much it

There are a lot of factors that make the Holographic Shadowless First Edition Charizard card worth so much compared to any other Charizard card. Firstly, it’s a first edition version of the undoubtedly most popular Kanto starter, which already makes it extra valuable to most pokemon fans. Alongside this, the card is also shadowless, which essentially means the card lacks a shadow between the box containing the image of the Pokemon, and the rest of the card.

This “Shadowless” effect is not a misprint or a mistake. It’s actually the original Pokemon card design, as the foiling process has changed and provided a different look to modern holographic and foil cards. These Charizard cards have become one of the prime reasons for the Pokemon Card trend of the past two years, with YouTuber Logan Paul opening one as recently as February 2021 that was estimated by auction site owner Ken Goldin to sell for upwards of $500,000.

    Misprinted Fossil Krabby: $2200

Yes, you read that right. Krabby is the star of one of the rarest Pokemon cards of all. By all accounts, this crab-based Water-type isn’t exactly a battling superstar. The fact that one version of its Pokemon card is so rare is a bit of a fluke, as its price comes down to a relatively simple misprint of the card.

    RELATED: Valuable Pokemon Card Errors

The difference between these multiple miscuts and a normal card is that part of a fossil symbol to the bottom-left of its art is missing. This seemingly minor difference has driven up the price of these cards immensely, and despite going for under two dollars in its normal state, Pokemon Prices has the card record of a misprint selling for over $2200 dollars.

    Cigar Roll Hitmonlee Error Card

Opening 10x Dragonite EX boxes! $200 worth! Pokemon Trading Card Game unboxing

The iconic “Cigar Roll Hitmonlee” has become known as one of the oddest mishaps in Pokemon card history. This card features what was originally thought to be remains from the outer wrapping of a cigar, reading “Crown Roll Leaf, Inc.” with a crown logo. It was later discovered that Crown Roll Leaf is a company that produces large sheets of holofoil, and a piece of scrap paper from one of these sheets had landed on this card before being printed on.

Turns out there’s no crazy story about some employee who was rolling a cigar on the job, but merely some weird fluke that resulted in this scrap piece of paper falling onto the sheet of sparkly goodness.

    Holographic Shadowless Venusaur: $3260

Just like its Kanto starter counterpart Charizard, Venusaur’s Shadowless, holographic, first edition version is a coveted card among Pokemon fans. It doesn’t quite reach the heights of Charizard’s $500,000, but Venusaur always was slightly less popular compared to the other Kanto starters anyway.

    Tropical Mega Battle: $10000

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, an annual Pokemon Trading Card Game tournament was held in Honolulu, Hawaii. At this 1999 event, just 12 of these Tropical Mega Battle cards were produced to be distributed to some of the lucky 50 players who attended the event, meaning the remaining number of mint copies is especially low all these years later.

Pokemon Players Club Shiny Espeon: $2000

    Dragonite

If you ever wanted proof about how much a Pokemon cards price can change just because of the Pokemon on it, you need to look further than the Pokemon Players Club Shiny Espeon. This card is almost identical in story to the Umbreon card you saw just a moment ago, but required only 40,000 experience points instead of 70,000.

RELATED: Pokemon: Every Shiny Eevee Evolution, Ranked

Despite being more available, Troll and Toad has this card for a slightly higher price of just under $2000. This is likely because Espeons shiny form is more noticeable than Umbreons, since the bright neon-green fur is a lot more distinctive and Espeon has its own unique degree of popularity.
