Grade Your Pokmon Cards

Before selling your Pokémonn cards, it is vital to have them graded accurately. This is especially helpful when mailing the cards to vendors who might reject them. A widely used scale is the PSA grading system, which is a 10-point scale, with 10 being the highest value.

You can grade the cards yourself, but its better to have them professionally graded by a PSA-certified grader.

Where Can You Sell Pokmon Cards

The easiest place to sell Pokémon cards is on eBay.

Its by far the most user-friendly service to quickly list your cards and start earning cash.

You should be aware that many buyers will be wary of getting scammed.

Buying collectibles online involves sifting through a lot of scams and counterfeit products.

But remember that if you take the time to get your cards authenticated, youll have a much easier time selling them.

It shows buyers that your cards are the real deal and it will eliminate any arguments or skepticism that your cards are fake.

Creating an eBay listing is incredibly easy and convenient.

If youve never sold anything on eBay, make sure to check out our beginners guide to selling on eBay.

You can also sell your cards to an online or local card shop.

They may pay you less for your cards since theyll try to turn a profit off your cards, but its worth a shot if you arent having any luck on eBay.

You can even look into an auction house.

However, you should only consider this if you know you have a card that will go for thousands of dollars.

Why Leave A Pack Sealed

Many sellers refuse to open a pack before they sell them. Its a Schrodingers Cat situation where if the package is closed, it can gain value exponentially, but if you open it, you might be throwing all of that away.

Many sellers elect to keep the pack closed and sell it as one unit as a mystery item. These rise and fall in popularity, but if you time it right, you could make a significant profit off of a small investment.

Local Comic Book Shops

Examples Of Valuable Pokemon Cards

The table below includes the values of some of the rarest Pokemon cards in the world, i.e. ones that were acquired as prizes for winning competitions in the late 90s and early 2000s.

These types of cards were never available to the general public, and they make headlines every so often by selling for six figures at auction. The table also includes some cards that were available publicly as part of the original base set prints. According to Pratte, these are the most commonly sold cards among hobbyists. And if you do have a rare card in your collection, its likely to be of this type. Note how the condition drastically changes the value.

Sell To Local Collectibles Stores

If you have rare or valuable cards, you might be able to get a good price for them from a local collectables store.

These stores usually specialize in buying and selling collectables, so they might be more likely to be interested in purchasing your cards.

Do some research to see if there are any collectables stores in your area, and then give them a call or visit the store in person to inquire about selling your cards.

You might be able to get a same-day sale if the store is interested in your cards.

Espeon And Umbreon Gold Star Pop Series 5

A pair of Gold Star Pokémon cards from one of the most valuable Pokémon sets of all time

Sold for $22,000 in February 2021

Gold Star Pokémon cards are among the most valuable sets of Pokémon cards in existence and command an incredibly high value as a result. The cards are named after the gold star that appears next to the Pokémons name at the top of the card, which signifies that the card features alternative-colour artwork different from the common version. Only 27 Gold Star cards were released from 2004 to 2007, making them some of the rarest Pokémon cards available.

While all of the Gold Star Pokémon cards are rare, only appearing once in approximately every 88 booster packs for certain Pokémon TCG expansions, the very rarest are the Eeveelutions – the many evolutions into which basic Gen 1 Pokémon Eevee can evolve. And the rarest of the rarest are the original Japanese-language versions of the cards offered to members of the Pokémon Players Club, who could spend points earned by participating in official organised play and tournaments to obtain exclusive cards.

While Eeveelutions Flareon, Jolteon and Vaporeon could be acquired in the EX Power Keepers set released in 2007 via the Pokémon online store, their psychic and dark elemental siblings Espeon and Umbreon could only be picked up by players who collected enough Pokémon Players Club points. The Espeon 025/PLAY card required 40,000 EXP points earned, while Umbreon 026/PLAY was even most pricey at 70,000 points.

What Is The Best Option To Sell Pokemon Cards

How To Sell Pokemon Cards on eBay! *2022 Beginner’s Guide*

If you want to get the most money for your Pokemon cards, selling them online is usually the best option.

Websites like eBay and Mercari allow you to sell your cards to individual buyers and you can usually get a good price for your cards.

Another advantage of selling online is that you can reach a larger audience than you would if you sold your cards to a local dealer or collectables store.

The downside of selling online is that it can take some time to find buyers for your cards.

If youre in a hurry to sell your cards, selling them to a local dealer or collectables store might be a better option.

No matter where you decide to sell your Pokemon cards, make sure you do your research to ensure you get the best price for your cards.

First Edition Pokemon Cards Vs Holographic

Before you sell Pokemon cards on eBay, I want you to be aware of a few things. Well talk about what holographic cards are and what the first edition refers to.

1st Edition

In case you notice the 1st edition logo printed on it youve hit the jackpot. The card with this print came from the first pressing, which is why it is more valuable.

However, all print runs of Machamp, the main set, featured this logo. Even though some novices believe the opposite, that belief does not hold much weight.

Holographic

Do you have a shiny or, should I say, holographic card? This would mean its card makes, it more valuable and desirable in comparison to other cards.

Holographic cards are usually the rarest card in any set. In general, each pack only contains one rare and it isnt always holographic.

Squirtle First Edition $370

Squirtle is the first evolution of Blastoise and carries the 2nd most value of any of the big three pre-evolutions. Although grading has slowed down drastically, prices have dipped in the Pokemon market. That said, Squirtle is one of the essential characters of the show and is a must have for any collector. Be sure to assemble your Squirtle-Squad by acquiring his English Rookie card.

The Quality Of The Product Is Key To Maximizing The Profit

The quality of the product you are selling matters a lot. If customers like the quality of the product being sold, they will buy more of it, resulting in the maximum profit in your sales.

Be sure that all of your cards are not torn or damaged. Even a minor bend or fold in the card lowers its quality. Check for dented edges, scuffs on the design and picture, stains, and tears before you offer them for sale on eBay.

How to Make Money on your Common Pokemon Cards (Selling Bulk)

One of the rarest Pokémon cards of all time, with only 3 known to exist

Sold for $110,100 in February 2021

Like its equally rare and expensive Trainer trophy cards, the 2006 No. 2 Trainer is one of the rarest Pokémon cards of all time, with only a small handful of cards ever made.

Given as a trophy card to finalists of the Pokémon World Championships held in Anaheim, California during August 2006, in order to claim the card, players had to gain entry to the tournament by collecting enough points to qualify and then make it into the finals of their divisions.

Just three copies of the 2006 No. 2 Trainer are believed to exist, easily making it one of the rarest Pokémon cards in existence. Its rarity also means it commands a high price, with a copy graded at Mint 9 condition by PSA selling for just over $110,000 in February 2021.

The card itself features fan-favourite Pokémon Pikachu holding aloft a silver trophy, finished with a holographic pattern. The card reads: If you won this card at the 2006 Pokémon Trading Card Game World Championships, you may return to battle the best in 2007.

No. 2 Trainers rarity and value put it close to the legendarily expensive No. 1 Trainer in terms of rare Pokémon cards – making it one of Pokémons most sought-after cards.

How Much Can I Sell My Pokemon Cards For

Before selling your Pokemon cards, you might wonder how much you can make per card.

After all, why get rid of them if you wont make much of a profit? How much can you anticipate for your Pokemon cards?

There is a massive range for the price of Pokemon cards depending on the cards you have.

You might make a few bucks, and you might make a fortune from your collection.

Most Pokemon cards go for less than $2.00.

These are the common cards, and there is an excessive number of them.

You can find some cards for about $30, but these are rarer.

There are also rare Pokemon cards that can go for thousands of dollars. A few cards have even been sold at almost half a million dollars.

If you have a valuable Pokemon card, it can change your life if you know where to sell it. Why not make profit from your rare Pokemon card collection?

Of course, many items can impact the value of Pokemon cards.

You need to take care of them to increase their price. The better the look, the more likely you will find someone to purchase your cards.

Identify Your Best Cards

Now that youve sorted through your collections, its time to take a closer look at the cards that might still be worth something.

Ideally, these are cards that are both high-quality and rare. While they might not sell for as much as you were hoping, theyre probably still worth more than most of the other ones in your collection. In this case, its best to sell them individuallytry reaching out to private buyers on websites like Craigslist or eBay.

Identify Type And Assess Rarity

The first step to identify if a card is potentially worth anything substantial is to check its type and rarity. In other words, how likely the card is to come across from any given booster pack or special event, and if it has any special characteristics, such as card material or Pokemon types.

There are a few indicators of rarity on any given card, though theyre quite subject to change depending on when said card was printed. A marker near the bottom of the card or near its name will indicate rarity: a circle means the card is common, a diamond means its less common, and stars mean its rare. More stars or with combinations of letters or symbols mean extra rare, including if those symbols are in the name or elsewhere on the card. Other characteristics that can up the rarity include: a higher printed number than there should be in a given printed set holographic artwork or reverse holographic, in which everything but the artwork is holographic artwork that takes up the full card artwork wherein the creature doesnt cast a shadow and any shining characteristics, not to be confused with holographic.

While rarity isnt the only factor in appraising value, its certainly a major factor: Some of the highest-selling cards worth tens of thousands of dollars, or considered priceless from lack of supply, are only so because of small rarities like misprints or typos.

Pokmon Blastoise #009/165r Commissioned Presentation Galaxy Star Hologram

15 Old Pokémon Cards That Are Worth A Fortune

A two-of-a-kind card that suddenly became one of the most valuable Pokémon cards of all time

Sold for $360,000 in January 2021

One of only two such Pokémon cards in existence – making it extremely rare – this Blastoise suddenly became one of the most valuable Pokémon cards of all time after it sold at auction in January 2021 for a whopping $360,000 .

The ultra-rare Pokémon card was created in 1998 as a presentation piece by Magic: The Gathering maker Wizards of the Coast to convince Nintendo of Japan executives to allow it to handle the TCGs English-language release. The game would eventually make its international debut one year later in 1999.

While two Blastoise Presentation cards were produced, this is the only one that has been seen publicly. Even more impressively, it has been graded at a NM/Mint+ 8.5 level by certification website CGC, meaning that the 20-plus-year-old card is in near-perfect condition. The location and state of the other Presentation card remains unknown – meaning that this may well be the only such card of its type left.
