Another great part of this set are the amazing artworks. Sure, art is subjective, and almost every Pokemon set has some great art. However, we personally feel, like this set takes it up another notch, with some splendid works of art. So if you like beautiful cards, this is an amazing set to get.

Plus, youll also get the newest set, which is, as we mentioned, always great. With all of that taken into account, Astral Radiance is probably the best Pokemon booster box to get currently in 2022.

Psa 10 Holographic Shadowless First Edition Chansey: $1100

Despite not being one of the iconic starters or legendaries, Chansey is still one of the most valuable cards from Pokemon’s Base Set. Like every other base set card, the Shadowless version gets a much higher price at auction.

There are 48 PSA 10-graded holo, shadowless Chanseys verified by the PSA. Despite that, they don’t tend to fetch as high a price as their slightly more common expansion mates, like Charizard, probably because it is a less popular Pokemon. The last verified auction sale of a PSA 10 Chansey was in 2021, when PWCC Auctions sold one for $27,412.

Booster Packs And Booster Boxes

The Pokemon TCG is a trading card game, meaning players collect cards to build unique decks and play against each other. The primary way players collect these cards is through booster packs.

A booster pack contains 10 random cards, similar to a pack of baseball cards. Each card has a rarity, ranging from common to super rare . The standard distribution of cards in a booster pack is 6 common cards, 3 uncommon card, and 1 rare card.

Booster packs are released in sets. New sets are released roughly four times a year, each with a unique name like Sun and Moon Team Up. Each set contains a fixed number of new cards, usually around 200.

When you buy a booster pack, it will indicate the set that it is from. As you can see in the picture above, the booster packs are from the set Sun and Moon Team Up. If you bought 10 packs of Team Up, you would end up with 10 rare cards, 30 uncommon cards, and 60 common cards. While you can buy booster packs individually, they are also commonly sold in a booster box of 36 packs.

One of the best reasons to buy booster boxes is to get a better distribution of cards. Imagine there are 220 cards in a set. In that set, there is somewhere around 70 rare cards, 70 uncommon cards, and 80 common cards. When you buy a single pack, you will get a random rare card, 3 random uncommon cards, and 6 random common cards.

Are Secret Rare Cards Valuable

As long as the secret rare card is not one of the common secret rare cards, then yes they are going to be valuable. They may not receive a lot of play in the actual game, but they are going to be of interest to collectors.

This means that they are going to be retaining their value for a long time after the set has been discontinued. In fact, they are likely to only go up in value.

Pokemon Japanese Play Promo 70000 Pts Holo Gold Star Umbreon

Pokemon Legendary Collection Booster Box

You probably recognize Masakazu Fukudas artwork, but did you know this version of the iconic Gold Star Umbreon is way rarer and more valuable?

In fact, its one of the rarest Japanese Pokemon cards in existence

Backstory

To be rewarded with this card, members of the Pokemon Players Club needed to acquire at least 70,000 experience points after four seasons.

To put this in context, players started with 1,000 points, and only gained 100 points for attending an official event.

They could also gain points for hosting events, playing matches and attending tournaments, but the points acquired werent exactly large hauls!

Psa 10 Torchic Gold Star Holo Ex Team Rocket Returns: $50000

In the early-to-mid 2000s, popularity in Pokemon was waning. “Pokemania” was on the way out, and that meant a lot of the Pokemon TCG expansions at the time suffered from lower sales and smaller print runs. With Pokemon back on top again now, cards from that era often see higher values than cards older than them. A great example of this is the Gold Star Torchic from EX Team Rocket Returns.

Gold Star Pokemon showcase Pokemon in their shiny forms and have the Pokemon breaking out of the frame as an early example of the many alternate styles the TCG would later experiment with. Why Torchic specifically is worth so much is anyone’s guess, but with only 17 verified PSA 10 grade copies out there, the PSA values them at $50,000 each. Actual auction prices are a bit lower though, as in 2020 PWCC Auctions sold a copy for $25,400.

In the Pokémon world, if you want to be the very best, you gotta catch em all. Psa 10 Charizard Gold Star Delta Species Holo Dragon Frontiers: $25400

The first of three Gold Star cards on this list, and surprisingly only one of two Charizards. Dragon Frontiers’ Charizard Gold Star was one of the first times it was seen in its iconic black shiny colouring, which alone is usually enough to make a card shoot up in value.

In February of 2021, PWCC Auctions sold a PSA 10-graded Charizard Gold Star for a massive $25,400. Other sales tend to come a bit lower, although copies have sold for as much as $60,000 in unverified Ebay auctions.

First Edition Shadowless Base Set Blastoise

Sticking with Base Set, lets talk about the big guy with water cannons on his back!

Backstory

We cant have a list discussing the rarest, most expensive cards ever sold without mentioning Base Set Blastoise!

Again, an extremely rare card in its 1st Edition Shadowless format.

Combined with the fact that its a much-loved character, and the final evolution from fan-favourite starter, Squirtle, its no surprise that collectors pay through the nose for this card.

People also like to collect the big 3 and display them as a set, so its value will always be linked to the dizzying heights that Charizard sets.

Japanese Tropical Mega Battle Promo Tropical Wind: $147633

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, an annual Pokemon Trading Card Game tournament was held in Honolulu, Hawaii. At the 1999 event, just 12 of these Tropical Mega Battle cards were produced to be distributed to some of the lucky 50 players who attended the event , meaning the remaining number of mint copies is especially low all these years later.

Showing a Psyduck having a nap in a hammock on a tropical island, this legendary Trainer Card sells for a whole lot of cash thanks to its rarity. Though it has sold for up to $65,100 at auction, PSA estimates the card is worth vary more than that, at a whopping $147,633.

Poliwrath No Rarity Symbol Base Set

Pokemon Base Set
  • Release Date: 1996
  • Grading: PSA Gem Mint 10
  • Pokemon card value at auction: $25,015

Rounding out the top 21 of the most expensive Pokemon cards list is Poliwrath from the Japanese version of the Base Set. While the Water-type mon has traditionally been one of the weaker valued cards from the 1996 and 1999 releases, this item is actually special.

Similar to the English version having a 1st Edition run, the very first print of the Japanese set featured no markings at all. Due to there being extremely limited amounts even printed, barely any of them survived three decades later.

Consider this THE earliest version of the iconic card, and you can see why its value has skyrocketed in recent years. In 2020, one appeared in a PWCC auction selling for $25,015. If you think that is a lot, we are only getting started!

Gold Star Pop Series 5 Umbreon: $27000

The Japanese version of the Shining Umbreon Pokemon card is pretty highly desired, with its unique coloring and gorgeous frame-piercing artwork making it fittingly beautiful as one of the first shiny Pokemon to appear on a card.

However, its price is so high because of much more than just its looks and popularity. The Shining Umbreon card only saw a very limited release through the Japanese Pokemon Players’ Club for hitting the maximum number of experience points through attending organised play events between 2005 and 2006, making it one of the rarest cards out there. In 2020, PWCC Auctions sold a PSA-10 copy of it for $20,000, showing just how in-demand it is. Notably, this card was reprinted for the first time ever in 2021, as part of the 25th Anniversary Celebrations set. Though that version is worth way, way less, it’s still the third most valuable card in the expansion.

Evolving Skies Booster Box

On August 27th, 2021, the Evolving Skies Booster Box was unleashed upon society, and the local card shops were jammed-packed.

It features 237 cards. Thirty-four of these cards are considered secret or rarer cards. Based on my research, the pull rates on this box seem to be 50/50 one ultra-rare appears to be pulled every three boxes.

According to TCG players, this sets most expensive card is Rayquaza VMAX card number 218. The estimated value is $277.50 as of October 17th, 2021, in an ungraded mint example.

$800 will fetch you a PSA 10 grade. Only 150 of these exist in a PSA 10 thus far. This card is the most sought-after of this set. The rare secret cards of this set are the best long-term investments because they are considered ultra-rare.

We have two words regarding the Team Rocket 1st Edition Booster Box.

Good luck.

2016 XY Evolutions Booster Boxes came roaring out on October 31, 2016. Each booster box contains 36 total packs. This boxs pull rates guarantee one rare card and one holo card. A highly sought-after box as one can pull a high-end Charizard holo.

The best card featured from this box is the 2016 XY Holo Charizard, card number 11. This card is a similar design to the original Charizard released in 1999. Only 315 of these have been graded a PSA 10 example, making this card very sought after.

Lugia 1st Edition Neo Genesis

  • Release Date: 2000
  • Grading: BGS Pristine 10
  • Pokemon card value at auction: $144,300

Similar to Mewtwo, Lugia was an iconic Legendary for many children who grew up with the series in the 00s. So it should come as no surprise that its debut as a Pokemon card was a major hit.

While a 1st Edition Lugia broke records by selling for a mind-blowing $129,000 in 2020, a Beckett graded 10 version of the item sold for $144,300 at a PWCC auction in May 2021. BGS grades a lot harder than PSA, making this pristine Pokemon card one of only three in the entire world.

Trick Or Trade Cards Are Easy To Collect

*RARE* Pokemon Fossil Booster Box Opening

Though there are thirty cards to collect, having 120 cards per bag makes it rather easy to catch ’em all. According to Pokemon TCG fan site PokeBeach, most collectors should be able to complete the set within one bag, with Darkrai and Chandelure being the rarest. YouTuber PTCGradio recently discovered firsthand how easy it is to complete the set when he opened a bag on camera and managed to complete the set with plenty of unopened packs to spare. The set is a worthwhile one to have, as all the Pokemon except for Pikachu follow the Halloween theme. Luckily, fans won’t have to open too many packs before they have found all the cards they need.

The Pokemon Company has revealed that Scarlet and Violet will be receiving their first card set in 2023, and this will bring plenty of new Pokemon TCG cards for fans to collect and compete with. The reveal trailer showed past Pokemon such as Mimikyu and Lucario receiving new cards, but there will also be many Generation 9 creatures making their debut on the card game scene, including the new games’ two legendaries, Miraidon and Koraidon. Reception to some creatures in the upcoming game has been mixed, with gamers complaining that Armarogue and Ceruledge are too human-like, and Wiglett not being a good variant of a beloved Pokemon. However, some gorgeous cards could rehabilitate their image.

Battle Styles Introduced Rapid & Single Strike Cards

The Battle Styles is the first expansion that features two new card variants: Single Strike and Rapid Strike. Single Strike cards usually have more raw power, and have attacks that can Knock Out other Pokemons with a single attack. On the other hand, Rapid Strike cards are often sneakier and use technical attacks.

All in all, Battle Styles feature plenty of interesting and powerful Pokemon cards, including some strong Trainers. However, if youre a fan of the early Pokemon generations, youd be better off buying another booster box, as this one doesnt contain the most iconic Pokemons from the early years.

Psa 10 Holo Rayquaza Gold Star Ex Deoxys: $37420

If Charizard is the king of Pokemon, Rayquaza is definitely up there in the royal family. It tends to value highly in any set it appears in, but none are as rare as EX Deoxys’ Rayquaza Gold Star, which only has 56 verified PSA 10 quality cards in circulation, putting it on par with the famous Holo Base Set Shadowless Charizard.

The PSA values PSA 10-grade Gold Star Rayquazas at an incredibly high $40,400. Auctions can swing wildly either side of that price, too. In 2021 alone, there were three up for sale by Goldin Auctions, with the highest selling for $44,280 and the lowest for $34,440.
