The best way to follow the Pokémon story is to watch the movies and series in the order they were released. That being said, we’ll split them up a bit so you’ll know how to follow each stage.

Destiny Deoxys is the seventh movie in the mainline Pokémon film series and features both legendary Pokémon Deoxys and Rayquaza as the two battle above a city, wreaking havoc on the surrounding area. Rayquaza successfully defeats Deoxys after firing a hyper beam at the alien Pokémon at close range. The body of Deoxys is destroyed, leaving a purple crystal that falls into the ocean and a green crystal that is found by researchers.

The film picks up four years later and, after the mysterious return of Deoxys, follows Ash, Brock, May, and Max as they try and figure out the cause of Deoxy’s return and try to put an end to the battle that rages between the two legendary Pokémon.

Biggest Differences Between Pokemon: The First Movie and Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution

    Okay, listen.

I know that in the last couple of years, there has been a sharp decline in the quality of the Pokemon anime. It felt like after Sun & Moon, Ashs story was sort of complete and we didnt really get to see anything new, and personally, Im not the hugest fan of the new series on Netflix.

However, that does not mean I can overlook this surprisingly good movie.

We all know the original origin story of how Ash met Pikachu, and their road to building the strong foundation of their friendship that they have today. But Pokemon The Movie: I Choose You! decides to retcon that and create a whole new story – one that honestly won me over a lot more.

Maybe its just me being a grown-up and learning to appreciate better story-telling, but this new movie is such a breath of fresh air for Ashs character and Pikachu as a whole, creating a fun experience filled with familiar Pokemon but set in a new adventure. I honestly wish they did more movies like this where we got to see a different version of different stories that we are all familiar with within the world of Pokemon.

In 1998, Pokémon: The First Movie battled its way into cinemas. The animated-adventure film, focusing on the mysterious Pokémon known as Mewtwo, featured a wealth of classic characters, including Pikachu, Ash, Misty, and Brock.

Upon release, Pokémon: The First Movie proved a hit with audiences and kick-started a very successful film franchise. But how many Pokémon movies are there? Answer: Its probably more than you think!

To date there 27 Pokémon movies. The movies in the Pokémon series include:

Are all of the Pokemon movies animated features?

Almost every movie in the above list is an animated feature, with the exception of Detective Pikachu. This is a live-action film, featuring actors that include Ryan Reynolds, Justice Smith, Ken Watanabe, and Bill Nighy.

    Genesect And The Legend Awakened

Similar to Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel, this film also suffers from an overbearing focus on Mega Evolution. The difference between this film and Volcanions, though, is that a Mewtwo ends up using its Mega Evolution in this filmall to steal the show from the movies main focus, a rogue band of Genesect led by a Shiny Genesect. Though it can be easy to avert ones eyes from the exact reasoning of why its included, Mewtwo in this movie feels more like a grab at nostalgia than a true inclusion for the plots sake or any kind of relevance.

Pokmon Movies This Season Werent Fun

Pokémon movies have always been a promotional tool. They are aimed at promoting the Pokémon anime, which is itself a game-changer, with movies designed to turn viewers into actors.

Theres a reason why people who go to Japanese movies are given Pokémon cards and a Pokémon event for their games: it not only rewards people who are already investing in Pokémon but creates a FOMO that can encourage movie fans on the phone to give it a try.

With the exception of the 9th movie, Pokémon Ranger and The Temple of the Sea, Pokémon movies were seldom directed directly at video games or as illuminating as they were in the years following this trilogy.

With the advent of online events and scenes of the new release of Pokémon, movies have become a vehicle for introducing new types of Pokémon and existing myths that were kept under threat until the lead.

While not an example of the launch of the new Pokémon movie series, the two releases of Pokémon the Movie:Black Victini and Reshiram and White Victini and Zekrom show us what this Pokémon movie era will represent.

Just as we would see many Pokémon games released simultaneously with little difference, two movies released simultaneously told the same story with only minor variations. It was a move driven by greed and, despite ignoring the confusion it brought, Victors story was an unpleasant puzzle.

The Age Of Pokmon Diamond And Pearl Trilogy

    • Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai
    • Pokémon: Giratina and the Sky Warrior
    • Pokémon: Arceus and the Jewel of Life

The formula continued until we reached Diamond and Pearl. This time, the Pokémon franchise was on the verge of transformation: Sinnoh represented the delivery of games to the double-tested Nintendo DS that brought new fans and with it the introduction of 3D in the series for the first time in a limited way.

TV anime started with a 16: 9 high definition transition over the 4: 3 standard definition, another modern part of the seriess sequel.

It was a time when the franchise was open to change, perhaps best illustrated by the use of a story connected between films for the first time. The result was a trilogy that felt different from the wide range of Pokémon movies.

There is always a limit to how big your movie can be when you need to tell the full story within 90 minutes, but extend that to another three times as long? New opportunities open up.

Starting with Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai, this beautiful story focuses on the unique Pokémon of the Sinnoh region connected with the construction of the Pokémon universe as we know it.

The Sinnoh region introduced the famous Pokémon including Arceus, Pokémon which is said to have created all others and the universe itself. It also builds Dialga and Paleia as time and space savers.

You know how some times bullets are called slugs? Imagine a gun that fires living slugs. Imagine a gun that fires living slugs that start out really cute and then “evolve” into giant monster versions of themselves. That’s the idea of Slugterra. I’ve reviewed a number of toy related cartoons recently and for the most part they’ve all started to blend together. Will the pun-based premise help this show stand out? Or will it fade into the very crowded field? More…
