Pokemon Japanese Promo Daisuki Club 7200 Points Holo Umbreon

Sold in June, 2021 for $18,100

The Pokemon Daisuki Club started in 2004 and provided many benefits to its members, such as mini-games, contests, and special offers.

One of those cards was this holographic Umbreon card, and to earn it, the player needed to acquire 7,200 action points, which was no easy task.

Umbreon is one of eight different characters into which Eevee, a normal-type Pokemon, can evolve when leveled up with high friendship during the night in certain areas.

Its red eyes and the yellow markings on its slender black body give the dark-type Umbreon an unmistakable appearance giving this card tremendous eye appeal.

First Edition Holographic Magneton

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $1,750

Composed of three individual Magnemite held together by a strong magnetic force, Magneton is a dual-type electrical and steel Pokémon.

Often found near industrial areas and power plants, this mechanical creature charges itself by eating electrical currents.

Magneton is certainly one of the more unusual-looking of all Pokémon.

Neo Genesis First Edition Holo Lugia

Sold in May, 2021 for $144,300

The 2000 Neo Genesis set was the first to feature second-generation Pokemon from the Gold and Silver video games that built off the massive success of the Red and Blue games.

And Lugia had the great fortune of being chosen as the character to be featured on the box art of the Pokemon Silver game.

Considering the massive boost in notoriety that Charizard and Blastoise received for being the box art characters for the Red and Blue games, respectively, the same is true for Lugia.

However, the difficulty of finding this card in top condition propels it even further into the upper echelons of expensive Pokemon cards.

Print issues are a problem for the entire Neo Genesis set, and the Lugia card is no exception.

Around 2% of the Lugias graded by PSA have received the PSA 10 grade, while even fewer BGS have received the BGS 10 Pristine label.

PSA 10 Lugias have sold for $76,000 and $129,000 before, but the BGS 10 brought home an even bigger price tag in May 2021 at $144,300.

The Top 12 Most Valuable Pokmon Cards In History

The 25 Most Expensive Pokémon Cards of All Time // ONE37pm

The ongoing demand for rare and valuable Pokémon cards has led to a frenzy out there, as people spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on unopened boxes and rare cards. Celebrities and popular influencers have got involved over the last two years too, blowing up the situation further. Its gotten to the point where stores are being flooded with collectors, scalpers, and fans, all of which have come together to create chaotic scenes. As a result of all this, some retail stores started suspending the sale of Pokémon cards altogether. Its wild times, for sure.

Perhaps after seeing all that, you might be wondering what, exactly, people are hoping to unearth in packs. Or maybe youd like to know if that binder full of cards up in your attic is worth anything?

After speaking to a large-scale auction house called PWCC Marketplace and doing some independent research, Ive compiled a list of the rarest, most valuable Pokémon cards around. For this list, I decided against duplicates, as otherwise this article would be composed of mostly different types of Charizard cards and one lone trainer card.

Be warned: The numbers youre about to see are large. Here are, as of now, the top 10 most expensive Pokémon cards in history.

Pokemon Japanese Promo Family Event Holo Kangaskhan Trophy Card

Sold in October, 2020 for $150,100

Another holy-grail trophy card, the 1998 Japanese Promo Kangaskhan Family Event card, continues to be one of the rarest and most desirable of all Pokemon cards.

This card is especially interesting compared to other trophy cards because teams consisting of a parent and child battled each other to obtain it, which was an admirable effort to build family bonding.

Fittingly, the tournament organizers chose none other than Kangaskhan, a kangaroo-like Pokemon with a baby Kangaskhan in her pouch, as the trophy card mascot.

Just 47 examples have made their way across PSA’s grading table, with eleven assessed in PSA 10 condition.

Pokmon Base Set 1st Edition Shadowless Holo Chansey #3

Another Pokémon who featured heavily in the cartoon, Chansey is a basic holo with a difference. It has a massive 120 HP, while its Double-edge attack hits for 80.

However, the stats arent the reason why gem mint shadowless first edition versions have sold for over $36,000.

As a normal-type Pokémon, the card is wrapped in a white background which contrasts heavily with the yellow border. Chansey is essentially a pink blob, while the holo that surrounds it will flake away instantly.

Its exceedingly condition-sensitive, and there are only 48 copies that have earned gem mint status.

Tamamushi University Magikarp Trophy Promo

  • Release Date: 1998
  • Grading: PSA Gem Mint 10
  • Pokemon card value at auction: $66,100

In 1998, Shogakukans Magazines in Japan offered a contest for school students. Fans that took the various tests offered in the publication could send them back to the company to have them graded.

Those studious enough to pass with high scores were then invited to a special conference held in Osaka of that year. Once there, the children got to participate in a unique Pokemon card battle tournament. Winners of the rare contest ultimately received the Magikarp Trophy Pokemon card Promo.

Due to the insane obscurity of how the TCG item was given out, its easily one of the rarest Pokemon cards on our list. It was not very surprising then when the Trophy collectible went up for auction in February 2021 and sold for $66k at PWCC.

Wizards Of The Coast Blastoise Prototype: $360000

Top 10 Most Expensive Pokémon Cards

In 1998, Wizards of the Coast wooed Nintendo in an attempt to land the Pokémon Card Trading Game licensing deal for the North American market. They produced a series of Pokémon card prototypes to display to the Pokémon Company’s executives.

One of these prototypes features Blastoise, a central figure in the Pokémon Blue game. The prototype only has an image on the front because its creators never intended to distribute it for sale. Wizards of the Coast only made two copies of this prototype, which has blasted its value even higher. It went to auction in January of 2021 and sold for $360,000.

First Edition Holographic Blastoise

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $5,500

A water-type Pokémon, Blastoise first appears in the Pokémon Red and Blue video games as the final evolutionary stage of Squirtle, one of the original three starter Pokémon.

Relying on twin water cannons that retract from the shell on its back, Blastoise is capable of delivering powerful blasts of water with superior accuracy.

And just as we saw Charizard’s boost in popularity stemming from its appearance on the cover art of the Pokémon Red video game, Blastoise was the center of attention on the Pokémon Blue video game:

Rightfully considered one of the coolest-looking of all Pokémon, Blastoise remains a collector favorite and this card can bring thousands of dollars in high grade.

Gold Star Espeon And Umbreon

These cards are scarce and one in a million. There are just a few cards imprinted with the Gold Star. So if you were fortunate to come across one then, youd become the talk of the town. Moreover, the Star is found directly on the right-hand side of the cards name, which awards respect to its owner.

These unique cards are rare because their creators initially gave them only to the Pokemon Players Club members. But, this also came at a hefty price the members had to trade 50,000 points to have it in their possession.

Nevertheless, these cards are now available for the sum of $5,000 and $6,000 each.

Pokmon Tcg Silver Tempest Serperior V Trainer Gallery Card

In 2022, The Pokémon Company brought back the wildly popular Trainer Gallery card variant in the Brilliant Stars TCG expansion. The extra subset is an extended setlist of cards that feature adorable artwork of Pokémon next to their Trainer. While most Trainer Gallery collectibles don’t sell for incredibly high prices, the extremely rare Pokémon V variant in the sets has become a hot item for collectors. In Silver Tempest, players will be able to pull a rare Serperior V card that features the Grass-type standing next to Unova Pokémon Black and White protagonist Rosa who is riding a bike. The Pokémon TCG Incandescent Arcana card will likely end up being one of Silver Tempest‘s most popular collectibles, as the card is already selling for a decent amount of money in Japan. On sites like eBay, a CGC-graded Serperior V has already sold for as high as $129.

Pokmon Neo Revelation 1st Edition Holo Houndoom #8

The 20 Rarest Pokemon Cards For The 20th Anniversary

Neo Revelation is a 66-card expansion that was released back in 2001.

Weve mentioned that dark Pokémon were overpowered at the time, but they were also unique enough to stand out from the crowd compared to normal types that had been seen before.

Houndoom is one such example, with the card wrapped in a distinctive black background.

Youll be able to see advancements in terms of the illustration compared to the base 1999 set, as Houndoom howls at the moon in the image. Rather than a full holo background, only the stars glitter in the light.

Another expensive option, its limited to only 28 PSA 10 copies. Thats low enough to allow it to mix with the rarest original Pokémon cards.

Pokemon First Edition Raichu

Sold in March, 2021 for $17,100

As Pokemon skyrocketed in popularity over the years, one character became almost synonymous with the franchise as its de facto mascot.

Much of Pikachu’s popularity originates from the first episode of the Pokemon anime series entitled “Pokemon – I Choose You!” when the main protagonist of the series, Ash Ketchum, a trainer, receives Pikachu as his Pokemon from Professor Oak.

However, when exposed to a Thunderstone, the lovable, yellow, furry, rodent-like creature evolves into the final form of Raichu.

Raichu looks quite similar to Pikachu, but with a few distinct characteristics, namely its tail, ears, and dark coloration of the tip of its paws.

Pokemon Ex Deoxys Gold Star Holo Latias

The eighth expansion of the EX Series, the EX Deoxys checklist contained 108 cards in total, with cards #105 , #106 , and #107 receiving the desirable gold star distinction.

Three of the cards, #107 , #108 , and #109 , are special holographic shiny rare cards noted by the gold star next to their name.

First introduced in the third generation of Pokemon games, Torchic is one of the three starter Pokemon that originate in the Hoenn region.

This orange and yellow chick may look cute and cuddly, but make no mistake, this fire-type Pokemon can shoot fireballs at its enemies that will instantly leave them burnt to a crisp.

Chansey #3 1st Edition Shadowless Base Set

ULTRA RARE Pokemon Cards are in EVERY Pack…Guaranteed!
  • Release Date: 1999
  • Grading: PSA Gem Mint 10
  • Pokemon card value at auction: $36,877

For many Pokemon card collectors, it doesnt get any better than the Base Set which made its North American debut in 1999. Not only does it feature some of the TCG series most iconic artwork, but there is also a ton of nostalgia players have connected to the release.

As a result, Pokemon cards from the release have seen the most explosion in value over the last decade. While not a heavy-hitter in the franchise itself, fans have been going wild for the adorable Chansey #3 Pokemon card. So much so that it surprised industry veterans when it started fetching jaw-dropping prices.

While hovering around $20k since 2019, the collectibles value has only continued to grow. According to PWCC, a 1st Edition Shadowless version sold for $36,877 in a November 2020 auction.

Don’t Miss: What Shinies Are In Pokemon Go

Pokmon Base Set 1st Edition Shadowless Holo Venusaur #15

Now were getting somewhere. The final evolution of the starter Pokémon Bulbasaur, Venusaur had a massive part to play in both the games and the anime as one of the mainstays in Ashs party.

It featured on-the-box art for the original Japanese version of the game, although the Green edition was never released worldwide.

With over 137 PSA 10 copies in existence, the original holo Venusaur is clearly a coveted card.

It may pale in comparison to the likes of Blastoise and Charizard, but its still a member of the original trio that players got to choose from.

What Are My Pokemon 1st Edition Base Set Cards Worth

If you own any of the cards listed below, condition is the biggest factor in figuring out your Pokemon card value. The prices below illustrate what these cards are worth after grading in mint condition as PSA 9’s & 10’s.

Important to note: It is very unlikely that your cards will grade this high if they have been played with. If you have these cards laying around in less than mint condition, it still may be worth getting them graded as long as they are in pretty good shape.

Pokmon Silver Tempest Secret Rare Gold Serperior Vstar Card

Ever since its debut in the Sword and ShieldTCG series, the Gold card variant has consistently been valuable in every mainline Gen 8 expansion. The Secret Rare Serperior VSTAR in Silver Tempest is no exception and is one of the expansion’s most sure-fire bets on value. After making its debut in the Incandescent Arcana set the card has been selling on average for around $30. In October, a Grade 10 version even went up for sale on eBay for as high as $1,200.While its general value will likely settle more towards the $50 range, the skies are the limits for what a graded copy of the Gold Serperior VSTAR will eventually fetch once it gets its North American release.

Pricing Or Selling Your Collection

The Rarest Pokémon Cards Of All Time
  • 1Look up card prices using online card-selling websites. There are thousands of unique Pokémon trading cards, and prices change over time as people sell, buy, and speculate. Recently printed cards may drop in price once they are no longer legal in tournaments. Because of these factors, looking up a card actually for sale is more likely to give you an accurate number than a price guide, which may not be up to date.
  • Try a Pokémon card-selling site or eBay, or search online for + “selling”. Remember to include any special features, using the terms described in the identification section.
  • Most online listings show how much a company is selling cards for. Look for a “buylist” to see how much the company will pay to buy your cards. If selling to another player, the price you’ll get will typically fall between these two numbers.
  • 2Ask Pokémon players or collectors. It’s often difficult to find a price online, especially for extra-rare cards that do not trade hands often. Search for a Pokémon trading card game forum online, and post a picture or description of your card for advice. You could also look for a hobby or gaming store in your area.
  • Be wary of scams. Get a second opinion on your cards’ value before selling them to a stranger.

The Japanese Promotional Victory Orb card was given to the winners of the Battle Road Summer Tournaments.

Because these cards were only given to the champions of each tournament, they are exceedingly rare, with only perhaps 160 copies in total ever being printed around the time of the tournaments.

You wont often see this card on live listings, but when you do, it doesnt stick around for long.

Watch the video below to see one of the only 9.5 graded versions of this card in the world.

A Brief History Of The Pokmon Trading Card Game

Launched in October 1996, the Pokémon Trading Card Game became one of the most successful spin-off products of the entire Pokémon franchise. Just like the games, players assume the role of a Pokémon trainer, but TCG had kids fulfilling their fantasy of battling each other long before the games had any multiplayer features.

To date, TCG has sold over 30 billion cards worldwide and has been constantly expanded with new cards since its release. Besides the game itself, collecting has become a popular hobby, with certain cards becoming insanely valuable.

With several high-profile sales making headlines, more and more people are digging up their old binders, desperate to find buried treasure. The TCG collecting community is now more active than ever, with no signs of slowing down.
