A week ago, Pokémon Company International filed suit against Beckett Media LLC. Beckett is a company devoted to cards of every form, but principally sports. If you go to the main page of Becketts site, thats all youll find. But for those of us who grew up collecting and playing with Pokémon cards, especially those who bought, sold, or traded on a regular basis, Beckett had so much to offer. Thats because Beckett used to publish an unofficial price guide for Pokémon cards, in which it accordingly printed images of those cards.
The magazine, called Beckett Pokémon Unofficial Collector, has been printing these images for a long time. And apparently Pokémon has been upset for a long time, too, as SportsCollectorsDaily reports that the issue has been in discussions for as many as four years. What the collection site also notes as odd is that only Pokémon Company is really complaining, even though the magazine company prints unofficial guides for the likes of Hot Wheels and Yu-Gi-Oh!.
Becketts claim in the suit is that there was implied consent from Pokémon Company International. From Patent Arcade:
Pokémon had actually purchased advertising space in the monthly publication after seeing the publications format , and that they did not complain about it before. The complaint also notes that Becketts more recent responses appeared to back down, with offers to stop the reproductions.

A very wide range of TGC cards can be graded at PSA and BGS, not only Pokemon. PSA is perhaps the most popular option for grading Pokémon Cards. They mark their cards with red grade labels and are incredibly reliable, but somewhat slow as well. Because of their popularity, their wait times have grown significantly.
How Much Does It Cost To Get Pokemon Cards Graded By Beckett
Beckett charges $20 each card for economy service that has no sub-grading. They charge $35 per card for economy service with sub-grades.
Although these prices may seem high, you have to consider how much money you can make off of a graded card. When Charizard was first released it was selling for $50-$100. Now if you want a 1st Edition Charizard it will cost at least $300.
There is only one BGS 10 Pristine 1999 1st Edition Charizard and it sold for nearly $11,000! If it wasnt properly graded it wouldnt have been able to sell for that much.
Clearly, the cost of grading each card is insignificant compared to how much money you can make if you are strategic about which cards you get graded. Or maybe its just a passion of yours and youre willing to spend money on it.
It is worth going through your old cards to see if you have any that might be of value. You never know!

So, if you believe you have a perfect card in your possession, you can potentially increase its value by submitting to Beckett, instead of PSA.
However, reader beware! This is a double-edged sword!
If your card comes back a Gem Mint 9.5 from Beckett, its probably worth more if it were a PSA 10.
My advice is to carefully inspect your cards based on the subgrade categories above, and honestly assess how likely it is to get top marks with Beckett.

As you can see below, I recently had an incredible pull from an original Japanese Base Set Deck from 1996.
To my astonishment, a Charizard had been sitting inside for 25 years! Honestly, this was one of my best ever discoveries!
But not only that, its in pristine condition:

- No whitening or edgewear
- No scratches or imperfections on the Holo
As such, Ive submitted this to Beckett as I think its got a good chance of a Pristine 10 and would be worth more than a PSA 10.
