What Is Beckett Grading
Beckett Grading Services is an American company best known for grading Pokémon cards. Their slabs are slightly thicker and look different than we are used to from, for example PSA en GSC. They come across as a bit firmer and look very nice with the subgrades. Beckett mainly distinguishes itself in the strictness of the degrees. They are very strict and have a higher grade than just a 10. When you get all four subgrades 10, you get a black label. This is only possible when the card is completely perfect and this adds a lot of value to the card.
Current Psa Grading Wait Time
PSA tends to take ages at the best of times. While they recently released the following statement on their website: PSA is experiencing a high volume of submissions, and as a result, submission processing times have been impacted. PSA is currently experiencing extensive delays, from the time of delivery to the time of order processing entry.

Grading Your Cards Here Are Your Options
Of the many grading options available, PSA, BGS, and CGC are three of the best and most reputable, but which is better, and what are the differences between the three?
The modern card market is dominated by marvels like online auctions and virtual collections, but the process of getting an item graded is the same as ever.
Youll need to send over the cards you want to be appraised, and wait for a period of time while they certify the authenticity and quality of your items. Especially now, their has been a massive influx in demand as well as complications due to Covid-19. So with all that, many options are 4 to 6 times the typical time requirement.
Services like Beckett, PSA, and CGC grew to be popular as cards became more and more valuable. CGC has a reputation for being used on Comic Books, the first C in CBC, but in recent years has begun making the transition over to playing and collectable cards.
Buying a graded card is a great way to avoid being stung by a counterfeit card, and its increasingly important online where many collectibles are traded sight unseen.
Another important reason for getting cards graded is to avoid potential counterfeits.
Heres an in-depth guide with everything you could possibly want to know about CGC, PSA, and BGS, including pros and cons, which should help you to decide which is better for your collection when grading cards.

Beckett Raw Card Review
Beckett on-site review services allow our customers to find out what grades their cards deserve before they submit them to BGS or BVG.
These cards wont be slabbed, but its a good way to get a sense of what grade your items could get if they were sent off to BVG or BGS for a proper look over.
Raw card reviews are useful if youre not sure whether you can be bothered to go through with the process of getting your cards graded, but theres no real point if youre planning to use BVG or BGS anyway as youll be charged twice. On-site reviews are a decent option, especially if Beckett is paying a visit to a city near you.

Lawsuit With The Pokmon Company International
On July 16, 2010, filed a lawsuit against Beckett Media. The lawsuit argues that Beckett’s use of Pokémon card images and other artwork violates TPCi’s copyright. This lawsuit was the result of Beckett Media ignoring TPCi’s earlier requests to remove their copyrighted material.
In late September 2010, magazine subscribers received a notice that the magazine was going to be canceled, most likely due to the aforementioned lawsuit. Subscribers were to later receive issues of Beckett Game Strategyst, which would have included information about Pokémon games. However, in June 2011, Beckett Game Strategyst was canceled as well. Subscribers would instead receive issues of Beckett Fun Online Games.

Another reason to submit with Beckett is simply because of the design of their slabs!
They certainly look classy, especially the elusive Black Label cards. The black and gold design communicates the value of the card beautifully.
But anyway, if youve decided to submit with Beckett, so lets discuss exactly how to do it
What Does Grading A Pokemon Card Cost
Many serious collectors will only purchase Pokemon trading cards that have been officially graded by a reputable company. Grading a card can immediately increase its value providing that the grade is high, of course. The cost of grading Pokemon cards can be steep, but the ultimate payoff is often worth it.
Grading a single Pokemon card costs a minimum of $18 to $35. Becket Grading Services charge $20/card for economy service with no sub-grading, or $35/card for economy service with sub-grades. Meanwhile, the Certified Guaranty Company charges $18/card for standard economy service. Professional Sports Authenticator , on the other hand, starts at $20/card with a 10-card minimum submission.
Some providers offer discounts for bulk service, assuming that collectors want to grade enough Pokemon cards to meet the minimum thresholds.
The graders outlined above are the most trusted and prolific service providers when it comes to Pokemon cards and many other collectibles. As such, seeking out a lesser-known grading service to save money could backfire. Many collectors wont purchase Pokemon cards with a grade given by a company theyre unfamiliar with. If they do purchase the card, they may intend to have it graded again. This often factors into the initial purchase price, meaning that the card wont sell for as much as it perhaps should.

Beckett has a more in-depth process, giving subgrades for the four key factors mentioned above. Their range runs from a Poor 1 to a Pristine 10.
Interestingly, they also have an elite level above that called a Black Label Pristine 10 for cards that score 10 for all the subgrades. Top graded Beckett cards command a higher premium over the more basic PSA 10.
Pokmon Company International Suing Beckett Over Tcg Images In Unofficial Mag
A week ago, Pokémon Company International filed suit against Beckett Media LLC. Beckett is a company devoted to cards of every form, but principally sports. If you go to the main page of Becketts site, thats all youll find. But for those of us who grew up collecting and playing with Pokémon cards, especially those who bought, sold, or traded on a regular basis, Beckett had so much to offer. Thats because Beckett used to publish an unofficial price guide for Pokémon cards, in which it accordingly printed images of those cards.
The magazine, called Beckett Pokémon Unofficial Collector, has been printing these images for a long time. And apparently Pokémon has been upset for a long time, too, as SportsCollectorsDaily reports that the issue has been in discussions for as many as four years. What the collection site also notes as odd is that only Pokémon Company is really complaining, even though the magazine company prints unofficial guides for the likes of Hot Wheels and Yu-Gi-Oh!.
Becketts claim in the suit is that there was implied consent from Pokémon Company International. From Patent Arcade:
Pokémon had actually purchased advertising space in the monthly publication after seeing the publications format , and that they did not complain about it before. The complaint also notes that Becketts more recent responses appeared to back down, with offers to stop the reproductions.

Is Psa Grading Or Bgs Grading Worth It
The concept of grading sports cards is to ensure authenticity and increase the value of a card. Though, not all sports cards are worth grading. Concerning the long-term value of sports cards, grading is only worth it for cards that will carry more money after being graded by PSA or BGS. Grading sports cards are a costly endeavor, especially now with just thin service options available from PSA and BGS. If your card isnt worth more than the value of the service fees of grading, then you shouldnt grade that particular sports card.
Also, remember that condition is at the core of the value of the card. While a graded sports card will typically carry more value than a raw sports card, its imperative to research your cards to discern if having a card graded will ultimately increase the cards value.

How To Grade Your Pokemon Or Tgc Card Collection With Psa
A very wide range of TGC cards can be graded at PSA and BGS, not only Pokemon. PSA is perhaps the most popular option for grading Pokémon Cards. They mark their cards with red grade labels and are incredibly reliable, but somewhat slow as well. Because of their popularity, their wait times have grown significantly.
How Much Does It Cost To Get Pokemon Cards Graded By Beckett
Beckett charges $20 each card for economy service that has no sub-grading. They charge $35 per card for economy service with sub-grades.
Although these prices may seem high, you have to consider how much money you can make off of a graded card. When Charizard was first released it was selling for $50-$100. Now if you want a 1st Edition Charizard it will cost at least $300.
There is only one BGS 10 Pristine 1999 1st Edition Charizard and it sold for nearly $11,000! If it wasnt properly graded it wouldnt have been able to sell for that much.
Clearly, the cost of grading each card is insignificant compared to how much money you can make if you are strategic about which cards you get graded. Or maybe its just a passion of yours and youre willing to spend money on it.
It is worth going through your old cards to see if you have any that might be of value. You never know!

Add Value To Your Cards
Firstly, Beckett have a more detailed graded scale. You have the option to include subgrades on your card. These are:
Therefore, by elongating their graded scale, theyve added additional layers of rarity to the cards.
Top graded Beckett cards command a higher premium over the more basic PSA 10.
So, if you believe you have a perfect card in your possession, you can potentially increase its value by submitting to Beckett, instead of PSA.
However, reader beware! This is a double-edged sword!
If your card comes back a Gem Mint 9.5 from Beckett, its probably worth more if it were a PSA 10.
My advice is to carefully inspect your cards based on the subgrade categories above, and honestly assess how likely it is to get top marks with Beckett.
My Recent Beckett Submission
As you can see below, I recently had an incredible pull from an original Japanese Base Set Deck from 1996.
To my astonishment, a Charizard had been sitting inside for 25 years! Honestly, this was one of my best ever discoveries!
But not only that, its in pristine condition:
- Amazing centering
- No whitening or edgewear
- No scratches or imperfections on the Holo
As such, Ive submitted this to Beckett as I think its got a good chance of a Pristine 10 and would be worth more than a PSA 10.
