If its not yet Thursday in your region then just be patient and you will receive it at midnight tonight. Once you get it you can complete it at any time, but you may need to know whats coming later in the quest. The A Seven-Colored Shadow Special Research is a six-stage Research featuring various tasks and rewards. Completing the quest tasks, players will earn cool rewards, such as Super Rocket Radar, Sun Stone, Fast and Charged TMs, PokeBall, UltraBall, and Pokemon encounters.

To enter into the quest, you must have completed any one of the previous quests such as The Higher They Fly. A Seven-Colored Shadow is a Pokemon GO event with special tasks & rewards, running from June 17 – September 1, 2021.
The event includes six separate stages that lead up to you battling Team Rock’s leader, Giovanni, and the chance to catch a Shadow Ho-Oh. In order to find Giovanni, you’ll need to earn and use a Super Rocket Radar.
Please note that you’ll only be able to participate in this special research if you’ve already completed the ‘A Troubling Situation’ Special Research arc.
How To Complete The Battle A Trainer In The Great League Task
For players who are unable to cross the task off the list by completing a PvP battle in any of the currently available leagues, we’ll detail the process for finishing this item in the near future.
After reaching Step 3 and unlocking this task, head to the PvP section and complete any League battle to see if it satisfies the requirements.
If that doesn’t work, wait until July 12, when the Great League returns, and then come back to the PvP section and complete another trainer versus trainer battle.
It’s a pretty simple task once the Great League is actually around, so players may just need to be patient and work through some other goals while counting down the days to July 12 to progress beyond this stage. Otherwise, there’s nothing else to it. The task doesn’t require winning the battle, so players don’t even need to worry about putting together a formidable lineup if PvP isn’t their usual area of expertise.

Replacing the The Higher They Fly Special Research on June 17, A Seven-Colored Shadow will see Rocket Boss Giovanni adding the Fire/Flying-type to his team.
With this Special Research, which you can get by finishing the A Troubling Situation Special Research if you havent already, your goal is to complete all of the given tasks to collect a Rocket Radar. That item will let you challenge Giovanni to a battle.

Here’s A Breakdown Of All The Needed Steps To Complete The Seven
Thankfully, the things you’ll need to complete in order to perform the quest are rather straightforward. The tasks are broken up into six subcategories, which became active for users once it was June 17, 2021, in their specific time zone.
It must be noted, however, that you won’t be able to unlock this quest until its precursor, the A Troubling Situation Special Research, is completed fully. Once that’s taken care of, you can dive right into it.
For the first stage of the event, players are tasked with catching 10 Pokémon, with the stipulation of it being a Teddiursa encounter. After that, you must spin three Gyms or PokéStops , then purify one Shadow Pokémon . The rewards for doing such include 1500 XP, 500 Stardust, and even a Gloom encounter.
Moving on to the second stage, players must defeat five Team Go Rocket Grunts . Beyond that, move on to catch five Shadow Pokémon and purify three Shadow Pokémon . The rewards for completing the second set of tasks include 2000 XP, 500 Stardust, and a Xatu encounter.

Should I Purify Shadow Ho
Pokemon GO players should not purify Shadow Ho-oh. The Shadow boost enjoyed by Shadow Ho-oh makes it stronger than a regular Ho-oh and purifying it requires a significant number of Ho-oh candies that could instead be spent on powering up Ho-oh. The one problem with Shadow Ho-oh is that its stuck with Frustration as its charge move unless the player invests 100 candies into picking up a second charge move, or uses a TM during an event.
Not only that, but Shadow Ho-oh is inherently rarer than Purified Ho-oh. Though there may or may not be more Shadow Ho-ohs in existence, Shadow Ho-oh can be purified at any time, but this cant be reversed.
If Purified Pokemon become better at some point, players can purify Ho-oh later on. There may never be another opportunity to catch Shadow Ho-oh, though.
How To Get A Seven
A Seven-Colored Shadow is available to those who signed into Pokemon GO between June 17 and September 1, 2021. Players should have it made available as soon as they sign in. If this isnt the case, its likely because the player needs to complete other Team Go Rocket-related special research missions. A Seven-Colored Shadow should pop up after those are cleared.

Shadow Ho-oh is obtained during the Go Rocket special research questline A Seven-Colored Shadow. The special research mission primarily revolves around battling members of Go Rocket before eventually facing off with Team Go Rocket leader Giovanni. Purifying Shadow Ho Oh
If you want to keep your Shadow Ho Oh big and strong, you should not purify it. The Shadow boost does make it stronger, not to mention purifying it would cost a number of candies you could otherwise use to power it up.
One of the downfalls of now purifying your Ho Oh is that itll be stuck with Frustration as its charge move. That is, unless players invest 100 candies into picking up a second charge move or use a TM during an event.
A Seven Colored Shadow Start Date & Time
As part of Niantics events for June, well see the release of the Shadow Ho-Oh Team Go Rocket Special Research on Thursday, June 17, at 12AM, and it will run until Wednesday, September 1, at 12AM.
Both of these dates and times are in every trainers local time zone, so no pesky conversions are required!
To get access to the A Seven Colored Shadow Special Research, youll first need to make sure youve completed any previous Team Go Rocket quests you have like The Higher They Fly and A Troubling Situation.
