How Does Battling Work

How To Get MORE Pokeballs in Pokemon GO! (Free Pokecoins, Pokeballs, Incense, & More!)

Fighting in Pokemon Go is a bigger mess than Brock’s love life. You’re supposed to be able to swipe left and right to dodge the incoming attacks of opposing Pokemon. You can time the dodge by watching the opponent’s attack animation. If you have decent cell service, and a bit of luck, you should even be able to dodge special attacks. You’re also supposed to tap your opponent over and over to attack. Attacks’ effectiveness is based on the rock-paper-scissors system of strengths and weaknesses found in the core Pokemon games. That means fire is weak against water, grass is weak against fire, water is weak against grass. You can check what type your Pokemon is in its bio, or refer to this handy-dandy chart. But, the Pokemon Go app’s performance issues turn fights into random kerfuffles. Your best bet is to have a ton of potions and revives at the ready in case you need to revive and heal fainted Pokemon, and just tap away, and tap and hold once in a while to unleash your Pokemon’s special attacks, which consumes some special meter .

Evolve That Eevee Rename It

If you remember the original Pokemon cartoon, you may recall the three Eevee Brothers, who each owned one of Eevee’s evolutions: a Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon. If you nickname your Eevee one of the brothers’ punny names, then it will evolve into your desired evolution! Want a Flareon? Then name it Pyro. Want a Jolteon? Name it Sparky! Jonesing for a Vaporeon? Then call it Rainer. This may not work all the time, however it’s an almost-guaranteed way to evolve one of your Eevees, but this weird method may not work 100 percent of the time.

Pokeballs From Rewards And The Shop

Pokeballs can also be obtained from achieving milestones. Leveling up, completing Research Tasks, and opening gifts can all reward the player with different Pokeballs. These can be large rewards but are very infrequent so your best source is still from Pokestops and Gyms.

If you still find yourself lacking Pokeballs even from spinning Photo Discs, there is one last way to get Pokeballs. The Shop menu allows you to buy items, including Pokeballs, in large quantities. Though this method only allows you to buy normal Pokeballs and not Great or Ultra Balls, it’s still a quick way to refill on Pokeballs.

How Nice Great And Excellent Throws Work

Once you’ve found a Pokémon on the map, tap them to start the capture process. Whether in augmented mode or in-game, time your throws to when the coloured circle round them is at their smallest. If you manage to land the ball in the circle, the greater the chance of success in capturing the Pokémon.

To do this, press and hold on the Pokéball to make the circle appear, and then throw it when you’re ready with a swipe. Remember, the closer you get to the centre, the better the throw type – it goes from Nice for most of the circle, Great for around half, and Excellent when it’s close to the middle.

Of course, the risk rewards is the smaller the circle, the easier it is to miss and / or more of a chance the circle will loop back around, so be sure to practice the timing to get it just right. It’s worth it, though, as the XP gains are pretty substantial:

    • Catch a Pokémon with a Curveball – 10 XP
    • Catch a Pokémon with a Nice throw – 10 XP
    • Catch a Pokémon with a Great throw – 50 XP
    • Catch a Pokémon with an Excellent Throw – 100XP

    More Berries Than Ever

We explained in our primer that razz berries are items you can feed a Pokemon to slow it down before you capture it. Updates have introduced multiple types of berries that each have different effects.Nanab Berries: Use these berries to slow down a wild Pokemon’s movements. Strategic use of these can be key to capturing a particularly elusive ‘Mon.Pinap Berries: These double the amount of Candy you get as a reward if your next attempt to capture a Pokemon succeeds. It’s a bit of a risk though, because if you fail to capture your next target the berry goes to waste.Razz Berries: Mechanics haven’t changed here. Razz Berries can still be fed to a wild Pokemon to make it easier to catch.Golden Razz Berries: Like their less shiny cousins, the Golden Razz Berries have the same function of making it easy to capture wild Pokemon, but are much more powerful. You can use berries in tandem with a stronger Pokeball to catch particularly feisty or extremely rare Pokemon that cross your path. However, don’t use multiple berries at a time since their effects don’t stack. One of the aspiring trainers right here in the PCMag Labs caught themselves a Dragonair doing just that. Feed the Pokemon a razz berry, take out a Great Ball, give it some good arc on your throw, and catching just got a whole lot easier.

    How Do I Get Pokeballs

The process of obtaining the various balls is actually very easy and you can get them several ways:

    • They drop most frequently at Pokestops. The odds of getting the higher level balls is slightly smaller than the standard Pokeball but they should all show up consistently. Youll get at least one Pokeball pretty much every time you spin the wheel.
    • Youll often get them as rewards for leveling up. We dont recommend relying on this to stock them up for long-term use, but it is a nice bump when you get them.
    • You can buy Pokeballs from the in-game store using Pokecoins. Youll get 20 Pokeballs for 100 coins, 100 balls for 460 coins, and 200 balls for 800 coins. Heres a helpful guide on how to get free Pokecoins so you can buy them! Please note that you cannot buy Great Balls, Ultra Balls, or Master Balls this way.

It doesnt sound like much, but some patience and good play will have your inventory full in no time!

Yes You Can Buy Your Poke Balls

Is “Pokemon Go” a free app? Yes, it is â but that doesn’t mean there aren’t in-game purchases. For 99 cents, you can purchase 100 Pokecoins, which will then allow you to purchase 20 Poke Balls in the game. You can see how quickly those simple 99-cent purchases can add up. When there are millions of players trying to “catch ’em all” around the globe having to pay 99 cents for a few handfuls of Poke Balls at a time, it’s pretty easy to imagine how Niantic’s investors must feel right now:

Pokemon GO: How to Get More Pokeballs

The only way to level up in Pokemon Go is to gain experience, also called XP. The easiest way to get more XP in Pokemon Go is to capture as many Pokemon as possible. You receive 100 XP for catching a Pokemon, but the game will award you with 500 XP if this is the first time you captured Venonat, Pidgey or another Pokemon. Youll even earn a modest 10 XP for a nice throw.

That said, you should capture the same Pokemon to get more XP in Pokemon Go. Its OK to have five Pidgeys because each one after the first means 100 XP. And if you only want one Pidgey, you can transfer it to the Professor for Pokemon Candy.

To transfer a Pokemon, press the Poke Ball icon at the bottom of the screen and then access the Pokemon menu. Select the Pokemon you want to transfer, then scroll down until you see the Transfer button. Choose Yes to receive your reward.

Pokemon Go Tip: Incense will attract wild Pokemon to your Trainer for 30 minutes. Not a whole bunch, so dont expect one Pokemon after the other. Youll earn Incense over time, or you can purchase some with PokeCoins.

    How To Manage Motivation

So youve captured the gym and put your best team in it. Youre set, right? Theres no way someone is going to take it from you. That used to be the case, but with the latest update things have changed. Now you have to take into account motivation, which is your Pokemons willingness to fight translated in combat power. Every day you hold a gym, the CP of your Pokemon drops. Once it hits zero, your Pokemon get kicked out of the gym unless you feed berries to each one holding it. To make matters worse, Pokemon with CP above 3,000 lose motivation faster. This ensures a more dynamic map, but also makes it harder to hold gyms. Thats why youll want to keep yourself well stocked with berries so you can keep your Pokemon in fighting shape.

Use Items And Razz Berries To Help Catch Stubborn Pokmon

As you play and find more creatures, you’ll soon notice that Pokémon become more difficult to catch.

You can spot this in two ways the throwing circle will become graded from green to yellow to red , or Pokémon won’t even have a CP level, suggesting they are too powerful for you to catch. In you come across these more powerful Pokémon, expect them to take a little longer to catch, or to run away sooner than other types.

It’s during these instances that items come in handy. As you level up your Trainer, you’ll unlock and receive items that can help. Razz Berries are best dropped at the start of encounters to soften creatures up as well as the ability to collect and use Great Balls from level 12, and Ultra Balls at level 20. These are rarer, more powerful variants than the traditional Pokéball, and while they don’t guarantee a capture, are worth switching to if you find a creature you want is proving difficult to catch.

Used Incense Then You Gotta Move

BEST WAY TO GET FREE POKEBALLS!! (POKEMON GO)

Wily Reddit users found a way into the games code to figure out how Incense works. In case you need a reminder, Incense covers your Trainer in a pink, fluffy fragrance that attracts wild Pokemon to your location for 30 minutes. But you cant just be complacent and sit there waiting for Pokemon. If you stay still, youll only see one Pokemon every five minutes, which isnt a great way to spend your time. Instead, take a walk and youll lure one Pokemon every 200 meters.

If you want to rest on your laurels, then the Lunar Module is the item you want. It acts the same as the incense, except it attracts Pokemon to your position. A nice option for those who dont feel like huffing down the block on a hot summer day.
